  1. I have not noticed any signigicant oil consumption on mine. Sometimes new motors will burn a little bit of oil. Sometimes they don't. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it does not become excessive. If it burns more than a quart between oil changes the I would have it checked out. Also check the service department for what they consider acceptable oil consumption.

A Dodge truck I had was considered acceptable to use a quart every 3k miles according to Dodge anyways.

  2. I have AWD and love it. Weather is the main reason for having AWD for me. If you drive a truck in snow with 4wd on and then off you will see why it is better. Yes awd can get a person in a bigger mess because of a false security and it can get you out of a lot of trouble if you do slip up every now and then.

Plus I don't like having to switch tires for different seasons. Give me a good all season tire, awd and I am set. So far the Khumo tires on the Journey has done very well for me.

  3. I have the 3.5L and have the oil changed when the oil change indicator dings. Normally I change my oil between 3-5k miles. Not sure what that converts to. I still have the lifetime warranty and if the motor goes kaput, hopefully Dodge will honor the warranty if it is oil related. Although I probably won't keep the Journey for that long. I usually switch vehicles every few years.

  4. Hey..I have the same problem and I am now just starting to research the CT Lemon Law and what I can have done for me. I read this post and you all had a lot of the same experiences that I did w/the dealership etc. I got my Journey in 5/09 and love it except for this leaking, I sometimes get soaked on the way to work-just wrong! It has been to various dealerships and noone has helped, it almost feels like my car comes back worse than ever. I finally had the sunroof replaced at the end of the summer but now the rear leaks. Not to mention that I have terrible interior water marks and general damage from them pulling everything aprt looking for the leak in the first place! Any suggestions on where to start? I emailed lemonlaw.com already and just waiting for a reply?? Thanks!

One thing I did to get Chrysler moving in the right direction for me was to call their customer service number in the lemon law book that came with the vehicle. The person I talked to was helpfull. At that time he said he was going to schedule an appointment with their traveling mechanic. Supposedly that person has a big influence on lemon lawing your car from Chrysler's standpoint.

Within minutes of getting off the phone with him my dealership called me telling me when that person could look at my car. Then the waiting process began. It took over a month for the guy to look at my car and they had my car for over a month too. So far so good. I haven't noticed any drowning water inside the cabin.

For the final steps I took were.

    1. Contact Chysler and mail into them the notice to tell them this is your last chance to fix it or you will be hearing from my lawyer.

    2. Also tell the dealership working on the car that this is your last chance to fix it.

    3. Get a lawyer to handle the rest.

  5. ..or canadian tire and princess auto.

I don't really see the big issue with the brakes wearing out at 20-30,000 Kms ... I had a Honda prelude that would need new brakes every 12-14 months and new rotors every 18 months with an average 10-15,000Kms/year. Its not just a 'dodge' thing. I'm sure they are trying to keep costs down but when it comes down to car maintenance its the owners responsibility to be on top of it. If you're not satisfied with your dealer don't keep going back to them hoping that they will 'see the light'. There is always the option of doing the service elsewhere or yourself. I just got an 2010 sxt and from the information I am getting from this excellent forum I will be more than ready for a journey issue if and when it crops up.

-sorry if it sounds like a rant.. :)

I agree with your statement of going someplace else. But not everybody has that option. My dealer in town was shut down by Chrysler and now I have to go 30 miles to get warranty work done. And after that it is over 120 miles to the next nearest delaer.

  6. Something i want to point out about your above statement, as to not confuse the noobies here, stating something as fact, like you did above, may not be the best thing to do...some people can take it as truth even and might ahve the dealer corect it, only to ahve the problem return.

Just remember, that similar problems can have completly different solutions, especailly when it has to do with the WIN or security modules.

Here is another example of what could be the cause as stated by other:

The swithc in the shifter, the break pedal switch and the WIN mod (or CAS as we call it) all are intertwined with each other. Even though it may seem like it is a problem with one, it could be the other.

A new WIN module would be the most logical fix your problem.....as that has been the consitant fix for the problem, as well as there being a TSB out specificly for this problem.

The vast majority of problems are indeed the WIN module as per TSB. But it does not hurt to be through and have the dealer check out both possible solutions of the win and the shifter.

This is excellent advice. It is very difficult to diagnose a problem over the internet. Without physically inspecting the problem we are only providing and educated GUESS from previous expierence.

In a nutshell this is excellent advice. Trying to diagnose a problem over the internet is difficult and can lead you in the wrong way. Without physically inspecting the problem we are GUESSING with previous expierence.

  7. I finally got my car back Tuesday and it seems to be fixed. There is still some water that drips in, an occasional drip here and there. Much better than before and it does not leak into the headliner. I did a quick test when I picked it up I would turn the fan speed on high for the HVAC and have the sunroof vented. Then I would close it and could feel the pressure difference with my ears. So it is a much better seal.

  8. OK 7 repairs and over 42 days in the shop and still the roof leaks. :banghead:

We are requesting the Journey to be bought back this week.

They gave us a loaner Journey and said they would buy us out of it and get us another vehicle so we will see.

My wife still likes the Journey just no moon roof this time.

I am on visit number 4 and if it wasn't for the lack of parts availability I would have had mine back by now to see if it still leaks. For sure you have a good case for lemon law regardless of which state you are in. Most states consider a minimum of 3 visits, 30 days for repair and you have met those.

I hope they get you a new ride with no sunroof. Hopefully you will not have to get a laywer involved.

  9. ok, now i am disheartened. we test drove a 2010 RT today, loved the vehicle, and are/were probably going to buy it. it is everything we are looking for. we have had a ford edge, and a nissan murano, loved both of those but still traded them for some reason. anyway, all of our vehicles have sunroofs, that's just a requirement of ours, but with the roof issues on the Journey, i might have to pass now. we have had a vehicle that we had to go thru arbitration with before with our state's lemon law, and it is a painful and stressful process, especially for the manufacturer to tell you that they recommend you let the dealer "try" to fix it one more time (this was after 4 attemps for the same issue). needless to say there were some choice words spoken to the representative of chevrolet ( it was a cavalier) and we traded the car shortly after that.

as for the original poster of this thread, i would be more pissed at the dealer who kept your service ticket open. that is a very bad sign of a very bad service dept. service dept's are to close tickets every time a vehicle comes in and leaves. i have worked for many dealerships in the past, and this was policy. we were not allowed to keep a ticket open, UNLESS the vehicle was still on our premises. i would contact the owner of that particular dealership, not the manager. and i would discuss this matter with them. most times, you get farther when you express your concerns with owners. good luck and please keep us posted.

Well I don't really have anything to go on as far as talking to the dealer that left the open ticket. They are now shut down. But I do have the physical paperwork for the visits with two different dates and same mileage. So if it becomes an issue I have proof.

I called the dealer yesterday and they say they are waiting on one more part. Should be in this week. Today makes it day 29 at the shop. And the lousy dealer gave me a LOUSY 99 Ford Crown Vic(Old cop car- you can see the faded Police sticker when the sun is just right).

When it first went in the Chrysler rep was there to work on it. From what the Service manager has told me is they found 3 pinholes in the drainage tray and replaced it with a new one. Drain tube on the driver side has a hole in it. There is no drainage tray for the rear of the sunroof. It was supposed to have one. Which I told them numerous times.

For the test they said a water hose will be running over the sunroof for an entire day to ensure that water does not end up where it is not supposed to be. What a load of crap. But that is Dodge's official test. When I first get it back I will be running it through the auto car wash and see what happens. I like to keep my rides clean and you better bet I am not going to stand outside in the cold this winter to wash my car. The auto car wash is one of my best friends in the winter LOL.

If it leaks like in the videos above my laywer will be getting a call from me. Plus I told the dealer this is your last chance. Any further action will be from my laywer.

Yes the drainage is messed up. Just don't put a band-aid on it that will fail eventually. The real issue is water getting through the seal! Fix the leak! I can't seem to get that into there heads.

  10. I saw mine in the shop with the headliner out and it did not appear to have any extra padding. I believe there was some give to the headliner, but not sure on it. Mine is in the shop right now. Or else I would go check mine again. Options for mine is sunroof, DVD and rear HVAC that would affect the headliner. Could be they forgot to put in a fastener. When I had my first headliner replaced they messed up the the fastener and did not fully seat the headliner in. Which caused a lot more movement and it would squeak too. So if you don't have the squeak, I would guess it is missing a fastener.

  11. Not sure if I would go as far as getting cross-drilled and slotted. But then again they look great on a vehicle. Proabably gonna need that extra whoa power after the twins get put on :happy feet: I wish I could put twins on but the check book is a little light these days.

One thing Dodge did do is replaced the SRT Charger front disk to slotted rotors because of brake issues. I don't see them doing it for the Journey. They would have done it by now. Betcha the bean counters got involved with this. Just guessing, I would say most of the brake issues are past the warranty period and the cost to upgrade them is more than what they are paying for warranty issues.
