  1. Hi.. I too was feeling hard shifts but when i would put it into gear..it felt like the whole engine was going to fall... then i kept hearing a noise thru the radio as i would accelerate etc. I took it to the dealer to have the extended warranty service on the front rotors (had to pay a $100 deductible fee) cause I was just over 12,000 miles. I told them to check the transmission and sure enough they said that i needed a new transmission. WOW....

    Journey SXT 2010

Any update on the new transmission? How's the shifting? Are there still occasional hard shifts?

  2. European cars are indeed equipping their cars with auto start/stop when at the traffic light. Even Porsche's Panamera is equipped with it. It's a trend that's definitely going to be adapted to North America. If it does, any know how the A/C will continue to cool if the engine is stopped since the alternator and compressor are connected in one belt.

  3. The car is now over two years old and the smell has never come back. Must have been because it was new.

Thanks for update. I too was paranoid when the car was new. I thought it was burning oil somewhere. Lots of possibilities including my undercoating. After one year, I don't smell any burning oil.

  4. I experience a hard shift on my Journey once in a while. Chrysler/Dodge has poor engineering in this aspect and this will be my last Dodge.

That said, my previous vehicle had a failing transmission and nothing was being recorded in the electronic module so they didn't believe me. I insisted on the shop foreman to take it out on a test drive with me to prove the occurrence and they worked from there.

Out of hundreds of similar vehicles they handle, only you know the exact behaviour of your vehicle. Take a test drive with them no matter how far you have to drive to let them experience what you're experiencing. At least it's now on record when that happens.

  5. Blue smoke = burning huge amounts of oil

What sucks with Dodge is that they don't provide loaners unless you purchase their extended warranty. So if they choose to hold the vehicle practically for weeks or months. We're SOL.

Keep us informed. Chrysler/Dodge needs to know we are also talking about it in the open.

  6. Haven't had the winter tires on for a few months now. Will have to look through my camera to see if I happen to have a photo of it with the winter tires on. Yes, the rims are OEM.

No worries on the photo. Only if it was readily available. But thanks for response.

  7. 1010tires.com and ottawatiresdirect.com are Canadian. I'm sure there are others.

I went with 16" wheels and steel rims for my winter tires. Much cheaper and much more selection than 17" winter tires. The correct tire size is 225/70R16. I bought a set of Gislaved Nordfrost 5 tires. They are fantastic. Got them for my wife's Fusion last year. Best winter tires I've had and I've been using winter tires for 15 years.

Hi, can you post photo of your Journey with the 16" wheels and steel rims. I assume these steel rims are OEM, right? Thanks.

  8. When there is no ESP light then it is fully operational. When you press the ESP button and it lights up, it is in Partial Off Mode. It will never be completely OFF. Per the manual, the ESP corrects for over or under steer of the vehicle. If you are using snow chains or in deep mud or snow, they recommend to turn it to Partial Off mode which I suppose will provide a better launch.

  9. I tried to import my usual MP3 songs via the same USB stick I've been using to import songs, but the radio kept on restarting after a few minutes of importing.

Finally after 3 attempts, I got a message that it will rebuild the database. It finishes rebuilding then I try to import, but same rebuild database message.

After the second rebuild I then got the message that rebuilding failed and to refer the issue to the dealer. The radio then goes back to normal operation.

I also called my nearest dealer about the issue, but they haven't heard about it. Told me they will remove the radio and send it in. Will take awhile without a radio and obviously a Nav screen. That sucks that dealers aren't equipped to rebuild the radio themselves.

So I just decide to delete all my existing imported songs from the hard drive in case this might fix any database problems.

Anyone experience similar issues with the radio?

Do you know how to reset the radio and have it rebuild itself?

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Well today I called Chrysler Canada to complain about the odd tire size and the issue of availability. I couldn't believe it. The person acknowledged the issue, but said it's best to talk to my local dealer. My local dealer? I told them I just got off the phone with my dealer and the guy at the parts department also didn't know what Chrysler was thinking. They are having problems finding the tire and are having issues with angry customers. I told them Chrysler is the one who selected the tire specifications for the vehicle, not the dealer. I asked why I was being referred to the dealer and pass the issue. I was rather annoyed at their response versus trying to resolve the issue. I told them to pass this on to their management and let them know this is the first and only Chrysler I will be owning.

I think you guys should be calling them up so they can build enough database of customer complaints about the issue.

  11. We found Liscense plate frame, roof rack, antenna, wind deflectors, etc... in our dealer's Brush car wash all the time. I wonder where did they come from? <_<

If you really care about your car, the best method is go wash it with Bucket and soap and water by hand yourself.

Not everyone has the luxury to do that. I live in an apartment building that doesn't provide an outlet or drain to wash their cars. Second, yhe city doesn't allow washing cars by the public street. It's not environmentally friendly. In my town, car washes have their own filter and recycling system before it even goes back to the drainage.

  12. Wow. If I only knew I could haggle for free services when I got this car. I hate the car buying experience because the price isn't set. You haggle this and that and lower the price, etc. I think buying a car should be easy. The price is set reasonably low than start high and then start bluffing your way through a deal. It's like playing chicken or who blinks first.
