I have had my Journey for just about a year and my list of complaints is very long!
First, amount of brake dust is unbelievable. Plus I have had to replace the front brakes and rotors and the car had only 20k miles on it (most of it hightway miles).
The cup holders are useless which is a minor thing unless you spend a significant amount of time in your vehicle as I do.
I have had the car to the dealer two times for a squeaking noise in the front drivers side. Although they hear the noise, they tell me it is not the shock or anything in the suspension. The last time they said they lubed "something" and the noise stopped for less than a day. Now it needs to go back in for a third time and the dealership won't give me a rental.
The steering wheel almost completely blocks the gauges.
The sunglass holder started falling open every time I hit a pothole (although this was a recall and they did fix it).
I get no where near the mileage they quoted me.
I have an SXT FWD and it is TERRIBLE in the snow. I previously had other FWD vehicles that were fine in the snow (Intrepid and Aurora) but I actually got stuck this winter on a small patch of snow in a restaurant parking lot that was almost completely flat.
I have tried two times to trade this vehicle in for another Dodge but no one will work with me on a trade. The first time I tried to trade it was less than a month after I got it.
Our last three vehicles were Dodge but after the experience I have had with this Journey, I'm not certain our next one will be.
Sorry to hear that, i could possibly create a guide to fix your center mirror/sunglass holder? I fixed mine it was pretty easy..
As far as some of that other stuff goes its just preference. Dont you guys test drive these vehicles before purchase? I mean when i took mine around the block twice, everything was in balance and to my liking. You should be able to notice these personal imperfections before signing a contract haha.
At any rate, i am getting a feel for how the Journey drives and although some things are different it just is what it is. Ive owned Fords all my life and i love Ford. I have heard nasty things about Chrysler and i know that their breaks are horrid but you have to learn to bend a little when it comes to vehicle purchases or it will be hard to find a vehicle you really enjoy owning.

I know nothing about tires so if anyone can give some advice that would be great!
Took the car to the Orange County hills out by Blackstar/Santiago Canyon road and did some drive tests. Around some corners i could feel the car bounce a bit and was wondering what sort of tires will grip the road better?
Ive seen those jap looking track tires but i am not sure if thats just a hyped look or if they really perform.

Darkening of the paint can be an issue with the Primer underneath. Seen this on a number of lighter color
vehicles and white seems to be a big offender of this. Not sure if a dealer would repaint a used car or not.
I think they might with a new car purchased through their dealership.
Hmm,
I will have to look into this. I mean its not that noticable but to me it is and i hate the difference in color. Ill have to see if the dealership i bought it from will warranty it. I paid a lot for the car so i might be able to get them to do it haha.

I am also curious about this...
I am currently looking at:
Which is pads and roters.
It looks like a great deal but i cant tell of the quality. Anyone else able to give some intelligent input?

I haven't had any transmission problems yet but I used to get a clunky sound when changing gears every once in a while when I switched from reverse into a forward gear. I found pressing on the brake hard when switching controlled that pretty good. Technically you are suppose to let your auto come to a dead stop before you change gears from reverse to first they say. I am not sure how you burnt out your transmission. We don't change the transmission oil as it is all sealed in, supposedly. I assume the transmission is under warranty and has been replaced by now. Good luck with your new tranny.
I was weary of my transmission becasue i have had the same issue with the hard clunky shifting but i believe its just the nature of this vehicle. It does not bother me but i just dont want it to be a for shadow for things to come.
The dealer has said its nothing to worry about... i have an 80,000 mile warranty so i am not worried about it.

Did you turned off the ESP ? ..if you are stuck in the snow you will never get out if you leave that on and the car will not move ..or feel like no power.
I bought my 09 SXT FWD with 15580 miles on it. So far its been a dream! My friends love riding in it and i love driving it. Only issues:
1. The center mirror folding mechanism is broke so when you shut a door or hit a bump in the road it folds down. I repaired it myself.
2. Steering makes chirp noise. Resolved this by using a quick fix method thats actually on this forum.
3. Transmission shifts hard. Dont know if thats just the nature of the journey but i am currently looking into it.
4. Breaks and Roter. Couldnt deal with the constant warping which results in break squeaks. Replaced roters and breaks.
5. The difference in color from the body to the plastic rear bumper.
Thats all i can think of and honestly these problems have not gotten to me at all. Like i said i love driving the Journey and once you get the little bugs worked out its a great car.
No major problems yet but we will tackle those in time.

I have this problem. My journey has a brilliant brite white body but the paint on the pastic has darkened.
Would be nice to know if this happens natrually or if there is a fix?

Try eBay ... I got a cabin filter for what I thought was a reasonable price.
I have to agree... found many good prices on aftermarket filters over ebay that seem to work just as good.

I feel some of the same paranoia but I've stopped doing some of this and have talked to Journey owners themselves.
Out of 10 local owners, I have not received any poor comments on the Dodge Journey. Just yesterday I talked
with an owner that has well over 44,000 miles on his in less than a year. He has no real complaints and says
it has been one of the best Company Cars He has ever had.
None complained about braking issues, and some of the other bits and pieces have been taken care of via
recalls, TSB's or warranty work to the customer satisfaction.
Welcome and congrats on the Journey! I have an 09 SXT with 15600 miles on it and no complaints!
Only minor issues were squeaky breaks that i fixed by getting after market roters and breaks and i had the steering noise which i was able to cure myself thanks to advice from another member. Each vehicle is different, if you experience any problems let us know :D

Ordered the journey a month ago still waiting.
Congrats on your purchase! You will be very pleased with the car.

Getting our Journey R/T tomorrow.
Congrats on the purchase and welcome

Very Clean!

Anyone else have this problem?
ive got an 09 journey sxt and my rear bumper color is slightly off from the rest of the car.
The car itself is a bright pearl white while the bumper is a slightly darker white. I have noticed another journey on this forum with the same thing.
The car has never been in an accident nor re painted.
Is this just how it is with the 09 sxt's?

I am a state farm agent and i pulled this from our system.
I posted it in the AWD section but here it is so everyone has a chance to see.
This will determine what body style you have based on your VIN.
Example:
1. [body Style] [Vin Position] [Vin Character To Match Up]
2009 Journeys:
1: "R/T" 2WD 4D 2567/DG67
2: "R/T" AWD AWD 4D 2567/DH67
3: "SE" 2WD 4D 2567/DG47
4: "SXT" 2WD 4D 2567/DG57
5: "SXT" AWD AWD 4D 2567/DH57
2010 Journeys:
1: "R/T" 2WD 4D 2567/DG6F
2: "R/T" AWD AWD 4D 2567/DH6F
3: "SE" 2WD 4D 2567/DG4F
4: "SXT" 2WD 4D 2567/DG5F
5: "SXT" AWD AWD 4D 2567/DH5F
Also not to over step any boundries but if anyone is interested in seeing how much it would be to insure the Journey i can help with that.

look under the back between the rear wheels if there is a diff and driveshaft its all wheel drive
I am a State Farm agent and i can tell you based off the vin you can tell.
To check yours... look at the vin positions then match them with the ones provided. If they match then thats the body style you have.
Example:
1. [body Style] [Vin Position] [Vin Character To Match Up]
2009 Journeys:
1: "R/T" 2WD 4D 2567/DG67
2: "R/T" AWD AWD 4D 2567/DH67
3: "SE" 2WD 4D 2567/DG47
4: "SXT" 2WD 4D 2567/DG57
5: "SXT" AWD AWD 4D 2567/DH57
2010 Journeys:

I am having the same problem with my center mirror falling. I made a small list of these minor defects and i am going to just have the dealer fix them all.
But again despite these small annoyances, not really a big deal and i love the vehicle.
-
The best way to check is to jack the car up and pull the wheel off. If you've got the aluminum rims you can look between the spokes to see how much pad is left. Or just ask the oil change guys to have a look next time you're in.
Thanks!
The funny thing is while parking i heard the breaks squeak so i called the dealer and mentioned the quirk with the breaks and i believe they are going to repair them for me at no cost... hopefully!

I am in the middle of buying some black wheels and i want to murder our the tail lights as well.
Was wondering who has done this and what product was best?
-
My journey is just at a year old with 15,000 miles and no problems yet. I am checking the breaks a lot to make sure there are no issues but so far so good.
Like whats been said before... Its a brand new model. The simple fact is that of course everyone wants it to perform at 100% without issue but that wont happen and its your job when purchasing a vehicle to understand that risk.
I have a warranty on mine that goes to 80,000 miles. I love my Journey and if it ever has any problems ill just take it in. Having it as vehicle is well worth the small quirks it has.
Again, plain and simple you have to do your homework and understand what you are getting into.
Its just the real world.
-
Forgive my ignorance but whats the best way to check the breaks on this vehicle? I purchased one just yesterday with 15,500 miles on it.
-
Great looking car my friend
-
I feel sorry for your loss.
I just purchased a Journey and i must say i am very pleased. No issues yet but i have warranties so we will see what happends.
-
Just picked up a White 2009 SXT!
I must say i love it and it drives fantastic! Look forward to modding it soon. Things on my list:
Black out tail lights.
Black wheels.
Replace Front Grill.
Deeper exhaust.
Navigation upgrade.
I am also trying to do some sort of intake and exhaust if anyone knows of a place to buy
Cheers!
ps uploaded a small album with pics of my SXT.

Just seeing if there is anyone around the LA area that would be down for a meet? We could meet at a local In-N-Out parking lot or something or meet up at my place.
Cool way to look at each others rides and share some ideas?
