Mom has a 2011 Journey.
For about 6-8 seconds on a cold start (not as in winter cold start, like sitting all night) there will be a whine and then it goes away. Not a high pitch whine (it's not like a v-belt whine). Maybe I'll record it.
My initial thought was power steering pump and after a little research I was almost sure that was the case.
She purchased this car from a dealer and she had it back so they could do some minor things like touching up paint chips, detailing etc (for a 2011 this thing looks like it just came off the floor, amazing care the previous owner took).
The mechanic told her the noise was the water pump and that it was completely normal and like this on all these 6 cylinder engines. This is the kind of bullshit that floors me. Mechanics telling women lies just to get them out the door without fixing things that they would have to pay for.
I've been working on cars my whole life and I can usually spot bullshit a mile away. Am I wrong? Do these particular Journey engines have this sound at startup?
