    Havent changed an actuator on my wife’s Journey yet. Has acted up on two occasions in 4 years. Reset itself both times, I am going to grab a spare.  Next time I probably won’t be lucky, it’s a 2014 model year. 

    Cabin filter may be due. I have changed it twice since it was new.  Worked fine on the way home this afternoon. Maybe the actuator may be starting to fail? Maybe a glitch? I have to get this thing in for its two recalls.

    since you just replaced the alt i assume you disconnected the battery cable and then this new problem started up i would remove the positive battery cable at the top post and let it set for a while and then reconnect ,kind of like rebooting your computer and hopefully  might rest or fix the problem....good luck

    Actually I did not disconnect the battery. I was very careful in the handling of the charging cable having in a past life being a mechanic. Insulated wrench and a plastic bag to cover the end while the alternator was out is an old trick. 

    Stranger news is that driving into work this morning everything had started working normally. I guess I will see what it does when I head home after work.

  3. New issue just started today. Driving home with the air set to cool with the system in sync there was very hot air coming out of the passenger side vents. I tried turning the sync off and turning everything up and down but to no avail. The heat blows out of the passenger side and everything else works fine. Is this a common thing? It started after I changed the alternator yesterday but I would doubt that has anything to do with it

  4. Well I had missed a few of the posts and due to the alternator just quitting yesterday I ended up getting a reman from advance. Not my favorite place but they had one and I needed it. Thanks for all the good info. 

    With a $10 core I held onto the old one and I will have an alternator  shop check it out. If it is just a pulley I will replace it and keep the old one as a spare

Thanks for the advice, Special tools are not an issue for me but the time to pull the alternator just to change a pulley would have me leaning to replacing the whole unit considering the Journey has 105,000 on it. Now the issue is finding a good reman, there are so many crappy ones out there and a lifetime warranty doesn't help if it needs constant replacement. I like to do thing once and have it go a while before repeating the process.

  6. I have a 2016 Journey SXT that has an odd issue. Every once in a while starting cold the alternator does not charge. Shut the car down and restart and before this morning it would start charging and continue with no further issue. This morning it took 4 tries and shutting down and restarting before it decided to start charging. Once charging is is a solid 14.6  volts with lights and heat running. Has Chrysler finally gone to an internal regulator in their alternators? I know into the 90s they had an external regulator or one built into the ECM. Is there something that can cause this intermittent issue or is the alternator the culprit? I walked away from auto mechanics back in 2000 and have been driving an 86 D150 up until a couple weeks ago so I am a bit behind the times. Thanks

  7. The RV was considered top of the line in its day. It was built by Travco Starting in 1963 with various changes up until 1980 when they were sold out of bankruptcy to Foretravel who continued building them up until the early 90's. From 63 to the early 70's these were sold as the Dodge Motorhome. They were available through Dodge dealerships and had a Dodge warranty. Ray Frank Started the company and one of the industry leaders that had RV's designated as Passenger vehicles instead of commercial trucks. 

  8. Interesting read. I specifically purchased our 2016 Journey in FWD so we could Dolly it behind out Motorhome. We told the Dodge Dealer this after the salesman tried to get us into a more dressed up model that was AWD. We repeatedly asked and were told it was no problem to dolly tow. We replaced a 2012 Kia Sorento with the Journey and it was also FWD. Only thing I have noticed is that the traction control and ABS have their trouble lights lit after dolly towing. A problem we only had with the Kia when the ignition was accidentally left on. The lights all go out within 5 minutes of driving so I am assuming the rear wheel sensors are always reading even when off and the difference between front and rear readings causing the code trip. Why the antilock/ ABS is active with the ignition off is beyond me but it is what it is.

  9. Just found this Forum And wanted to drop in and say hello. We just bought our first Journey a little over a month ago and love it. I have always been a fan of Mopar and there a couple residing here. My wife has the Journey as her Daily Driver and the main Family car. My Daily driver is an 86 Dodge D150 short bed with just a little over 425,000 miles on the original Slant 6. Another Dodge sitting at the House is a project. We are the proud owners and users of a 1976 Dodge Travco Mahal 2+2 Motorhome that we are restoring (more restomod) and camping in. We just finished an 1835 mile round trip from Georgia to Ohio, Michigan and back home while pulling the Journey on a Dolly.
