  1. Has a fix been found for the blank map issue?  Today is the first time I've ever seen it.   Of course as I'm driving to SC to visit my brother.  The info screen still shows turn alerts and it still shows exits on the main screen as well.   Gotta be a software hiccup.   I haven't had the opportunity to stop and shut the car off yet.  So unsure if that will fix it.   I noticed it got stuck on calculating this AM before we left so I cancelled and then tried again. It got me started on my trip but sans maps lol!

  2. Hey bro.. the amp is under the passenger seat where the OEM alpine amp was. Its obviously larger but fits under there perfectly.. i will upload a picture later today of it under there. We also ran 4 gauge to the amplifier directly from the battery. apparently its super easy on these cars so long as you don't have a manual... there is a giant rubber plug for the clutch pedal that we went through.

I also figured out the other issue.. apparently there is a Fade disable on the amplifier that was turned on.. then it uses just the front input of the amp to power all 5 channels.. which wouldn't be an issue if you didn't want to fade... or want park assist. once that was turned back off, obviously fade and balance worked as intended and the park assist beeps resumed.

Looking at the OEM enclosure it looks like you could modify it for a 10" sub. i may try this at some point, but i need to stay on the down low a bit with the spending on the car.. the wife is getting a little ticked.. I did have to modify the stock enclosure to fit even this 8" because of depth. it was easy enough to cut and reseal the enclosure.

  3. Installation is complete and WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! i definitely recommend doing this upgrade... after looking at at the subwoofer enclosure, it looks like you may be able to fit a 10" in there.. i may eventually try it, but the Kicker CompR 8" sounds AMAZING... I elected the Kicker KX800.5 5 channel amplifier.. its 50x4 RMS @ 4ohm and then 400x1 RMS @ 2ohm to the subwoofer. I still need to mess around with settings as with the PAC Adapter i apparently lost Fader when i expected to only lose the EQ settings... i also don't have my park assist beeps... I'll keep you updated as to my findings...

  4. I wonder if deleting the alpine premium sales code from the vin would make it function as yours does... Problem with the alpine system is the crossover points and a noise cancelling mic. I hate it. Parts are on the way and my buddy and I will be installing this stuff and praying for a better sound lol. I'm a former IASCA world finalist and installer/fabricator from old circuit city days. My buddy worked for me at circuit city and is a Bestbuy Master Tech... I'll keep everyone updated on the progress. I really want to try to delete the sales code and see if it enables the speaker level outs. Guess I need to pull the unit. Get a wire harness and head to the dealer. I also have a friend that owns my dodge dealer so we can edit sales codes anytime for free

  5. OK.. so i finally bit the bullet and have a Kicker 800.5 5 Channel Amplifier... 100x4 plus 400x1 RMS. The trouble is that this leads me to more questions and more problems... So... as far as i can tell with this alpine system, there is simply a Left and Right channel leaving the head unit going to the amplifier.. Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble, Fade and Balance is then all controlled through the Can Bus... There is an adapter for Premium sound systems(assuming that includes the alpine system) that gives you line level outputs from the can bus... Trouble is you lose bass, mid and treble controls. http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=1120&CategoryID=28 I'd like to assume that i won't need the adjustments after setting up the amp and whatnot.... plus i'll have a subwoofer gain control so i like to think this will work. Will also be upgrading the 8" to a dual 4ohm Coil Kicker CompR 600 Watt RMS sub...

What i'm curious of is this.... Take a look at this piece here... https://www.ebay.com/itm/282026505770 It says it is for NON AMPLIFIED systems... My question is can you delete the sales code for the "premium" sound system and enable this device to work and maintain your bass/mid/treble controls? Probably a long shot, but with how these cars work with can bus it wouldn't surprise me. as an example.. my old chrysler 200 did NOT have the ability from the manufacture to get a rear view camera... I purchased a third party rear view camera and harness, installed it and then added a sales code for Backup cam and presto! There it is in my stock RHR radio... Rear view camera...

Would love for some thoughts, insights.... Dhh3 do you have the 8.4 Connect?

  6. It's nothing to do with sound stage with a sub as it's the vibration that locates a sub not your ears.

This is partially true. The objective of a good subwoofer is to just hear/feel it and you to not be able to locate were the sound is coming from.. It should leave the impression it's coming from in front of you. Not under your but. BUT AGAIN I've never tried a sub upset the seat and would LOVE to hear dhh3 system. Would feel way better about making the changes haha. The kicker "upgrade" is rough in my honest opinion.

  7. I've read your threads and am not talking about your posts. I'm sure it does sound tons better especially since you have an aftermarket amp bypassing the crappy alpine amps cross over points LOL.

I'm talking about the 3 or 4 people that have said they modified the oem sub enclosure for 10" subs. I've read posts that they did it with success but once asked for pics they become ghosts. That's all. If you want to read that I have a "low opinion of forum members". That's fine too. But I was pretty clear what my question was. I use my journey for business and am unable to sacrifice any cargo area or 3rd row. I'd prefer the sub be in the oem location, but underwear is certainly on my list of possibilities. I'm not looking for rattle the crap off the wall loud. I'm looking for more of an audiophile sound. Which is one reason the seat under the sub is on the back burner. Without ever hearing a sub under my butt. Just not sure how it would present itself in the sound stage.

  8. as no one actually done anything with the factory subwoofer or enclosure? I'm on the fence of a 600x5 Kicker amplifier and change out the 8"woofer to a better 8" Kicker to use the 300Watts RMS of the sub channel of the kicker amp. i would think that would help... Would bypass the crappy crossover points of the OEM amplifier... i guess i had hoped some of the crap talkers on here would actually come out and show their goods.. i'd like to try the 10" in the enclosure, but i don't want to destroy it if its not possible....

  9. Ok so the ALpine speakers in my car were not paper crappy speakers. They were actually pretty decent woofers with rubber surrounds and decent magnets. I almost feel like the kicker upgrade took me backwards with how bright the tweeters are. I feel like I'm going to end up replacing the amp and requiring the car. As much as I do not want to do that I really would like this to sound at least as good as my Chrysler 200's Boston system...

  10. yeah the R/T has the sub.. i'm curious if i can find someone that actually upgraded their sub.. i ordered the Kicker upgrades for front and rear speakers but i want to upgrade the sub as well.. I can't find any info on the sub.. i have found that in other vehicles the subwoofer amplifier is 100Watts at 1Ohm, but thats a ram and apparently a kicker setup initially...
