My impressions of the Journey towing at the limit!

First, we have a 2010 RT journey with the factory towing package and the oem Mopar Hicth. I just bought a 2012 Visa 19rsd travel trailer. The trailer weight is 3107 including 2 full propane reservoirs. Tongue weight is 400lbs. I'm using a weight distribution hitch to even the weight at both ends.

With the 2 kids (40pounds each), 2 bikes mount on a tongue hitch, grocery, baby stroller and everything my wife seems to find neccesseray to bring, the total weight is at 3500lbs or a bit more

The trailer is low, aerodynamic and really stable.

My first impressions are that the Journey does a good job pulling the thing. Braking is really good with the brake controller. It surprised me how I don't feel the weight when braking. Acceleration is an other thing. When you stay below 60KM/h, city driving, the car pulls really well, but when you get at speed higher then that the Journey began to struggle with the weight. You quickly learn that you need to shift speed yourself on the highway, especially in hilly terrain.

In fact, i'm an heavy right foot kind off guy... I'm more off a left laner... After I realized that I needed to change my driving habits with the trailer, everything when smooth. In fact, I'm able to easily maintain 100km/h even in steep hill.

To make a long story short, I'm impress with the Journey ability to tow such a big ( 22',11" ) trailer without putting to much stress on the mechanical parts of the car. You just need to teach yourself to stay at the speed limit with a samile in your face!
