  1. Soooooo to make a long story short the tires that came on my Journey are only made my one manufacturer and are nationally back ordered. Here is my question can I put a 235 55 R19 tire on it instead of the 225 55 R19 tires that are on it now?

I would go with a 235/50 R19. Decent tire selection. The height is approximately .4" shorter (which I think is an advantage because it will give you a little more clearance in the fenders). But the big factor is that the Journey's 19" rims are only 7" width. The 235/50 R19 recommended rim width is 6.5-7.5. Most 235/55 R19's recommended rim widths are 7-8 and I think turning clearance would be extremely close. Way too close.

  2. Is it possible that anyone has a picture? I have a 2009 AWD R/T with the trailer tow prep group, so I have wire harness, and I know the cabling just plugs in in series to the vehicles factory wiring by disconnecting it and re-routing each end to the wire harness. Where do I find these connectors to make the connections.

Is it behind the bumper and does it literally have to be removed?

Is it possible that the wiring is in the side panels?

I really don't know. I have dropped the spare, taken out the lower compartment, removed all of the jack hardware, started to pull out the side panels in the cargo area but did not find the wiring and realized taking off the side panels was not a good idea without instructions.

    Thanks,

    Nick

If it's the factory 4 pin wiring harness you just need to remove the tail lights. They plug in between the tail light and the factory wiring and drop the cable down through the bottom through a rubber plug.

  3. I've searched through all the literature I could find and looked at the entire electrical fuse and relay box but nowhere can I find how many amps is the headlight relay (high and low beam). I want to upgrade to some higher wattage but I want to make sure the electrical can handle it. My thought is that since the Journey is configured for export to Europe, I'm hoping for a little more robust headlight relay than a US only model vehicle. After all, my ancient '92 Mazda MPV handles 80/100 H4's no problem.

  4. I have a Journey SXT AWD and it is terrible in the snow! My front wheel drive goes farther up my driveway than the AWD Journey! I had a Subaru Outback before this car and regret trading that car in on the Journey. The Subaru had 150,000 miles on it and had far fewer problems. I even had all season radials on the Subaru that look like the tires on the Journey and the Subaru was 100% better in the snow. I had to spend extra money to get wheels and snow tires for my Journey to go in the snow! I like how the Journey rides and that is where it ends for me!

My Journey SXT AWD is awesome in the snow. I had no issues at all last winter and I drove through snow up to 1 feet deep with no issues. I would have your system checked.

  5. I just bought a 2010 Journey SXT that has a 6 disc/sirius/mp3/DVD radio. I noticed that there is an auxiliary spot on the front of the radio. The car does not have a DVD monitor but I was wondering if a monitor can be connected to the radio with an auxiliary cord? Does anyone know if this is possible or how I can go about hooking a monitor to the radio to use the DVD player?

    Thanks!

The video outputs are on the back of the reciever. You will have to remove the radio in order to install video monitors.

  6. No, this is not typical wear for a AWD. Cupping usually indicates damage to some part of the suspension. Do you remember hitting any pothole particularly hard? It could also indicate an unbalanced tire as well. Anyhow take it in to have your service guy take a look.

I have over 18000 miles on my 2009 Journey AWD with the 19" rims and I haven't noticed any unusual wear on any of the tires.

  7. Hi Guys,

Ordered my journey, but starting to get cold feet. Almost everyone who I spoke to who drive a journey tell me they regret it. The reason I get most often is braking system and rattles in the vehicle after 20000k (14,000miles). Another complaint was that a lot of people had to go back to the dealer to get their radio fixed.

Most of the people I spoke with have a late 2009. I wonder if a 2010 have all the same issues,

    Please share your experiences.

My 2009 Journey SXT AWD has over 14,000 miles with no problems. It runs great, delivering 23-25 MPG on the highway. It's been trouble free so far.

  8. I am installing a trailer hitch. Auto zone sold me a plug in wire mount and said their should be a 8 plug under the spare it will plug into. i can't find it. Any help would be appr.

Well, the guys at Autozone are a little off. On Journey's that were not equipped with the towing prep group, there is no wiring for a trailer and no external oil cooler. Journey's that have the towing prep group (external oil cooler) come with a 4 pin blade wiring kit but it is not installed and is in the storage area where the jack is. Dodge does offer a full 8 pin round trailer wiring kit but it involves running the wiring clear up to the engine compartment. Since the towing capacity of the Journey is 3500lbs, the need for wiring for trailer brakes is pretty rare. But there are a couple of people on this forum that do tow a pretty good size trailer.

  9. Seems to me 75% of these cars were lemons haha.

Well, I don't know about 75% but there have been quite a few owners with some significant complaints. I've had my Journey for 6 months and no complaints. It runs great, rides very good, is extremely quiet and I haven't had any engine, transmission, vibration issues whatsoever. I think one aspect of this forum like any other is that owners that are having problems seek more information and register on forums to discuss the issues. The large majority of owners who have no problems just putter along contently. So I think that although there seem to be some reoccurring problems, I think that we're not hearing from the majority of owners who haven't had any issues and haven't registered. Just my 2 cents.

  10. I just got back from a 300 mile round trip with our 2009 SXT AWD to go grocery shopping (I know it sounds insane but it's 150 miles each way to the nearest large city with a Costco). Needless to say we don't go that often but I ended up with 25.4 MPG. Not too bad.

  11. Hello everybody!

We love our new Journey so far, have only owned it for1 month today in fact.....Ours is the STX "Stone White" with quite a few upgrades. Hope to learn many GOOD things about our new rig....

Welcome aboard! Share you Journey stories, both good and bad.

  12. I have owned these following vehicles in no particular order. 1964 Ford F150, 1970 International 1500 Pickup, 1972 International 2500 Pickup, 1972 Chevelle, 1972 Chevrolet K10 pickup, 1974 Datsun B210, 1974 Impala, 1975 Olds Cutlass, 1977 Olds Starfire, 1980 Plymouth Turismo, 1984 Mazda B2000 Pickup, 1986 Mazda B2000 Pickup, 1986 Mazda B2000 Pickup Extended Cab, 1986 Subaru XT, 1987 Pontiac Grand Am, 1987 Chevrolet Sprint, 1988 Mazda 929, 1989 Metro HB, 1990 Metro HB, 1991 Metro HB, 1992 Mazda MPV 4WD, 1992 Mazda MPV 2WD, 1993 Mazda B2200 Pickup, 1994 Mazda MPV, 1994 Geo Metro 4dr, 1994 Chevrolet K3500 Crew Cab Pickup, 1997 Pontiac Transport, 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1998 Mazda MPV 2WD, 2000 Pontiac Montana, 2001 Chevrolet Tracker, 2002 Hyundai Accent GS, 2002 Pontiac Montana, 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD, 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4WD, 2009 Dodge Journey SXT AWD.

  13. I am having a problem with my Journey in that sometimes when I turn my steering wheel to the right I'll get an audio "ding" sound and my airbag light will come on. It only stays on for a few seconds and then shuts off. This is very annoying, especially the "ding" sound. I took the car into my dealer and, after investigating the problem, I was asked to just put up with it and told that the air bag would not pop out accidentally. Why can't this be repaired? Has anyone else had this problem? What might be causing this to happen?

I would try another dealer. The air bag light only comes on when there is a failure in the diagnostics mode on startup or a sensor or electrical integrity error while driving. At present, your air bag might not deploy in an accident. I would go to another dealer ASAP.

  14. One thing I have noticed is the headlight beam on my Journey (no matter what bulb I use) does not reach that far out. Is that a common problem? Can the headlights be adjusted up a little? The journey headlight bulb wattage is 55w. I have seen after market bulbs for the Journey that are around 80w. Has any one tried them? I'm to scared to try them because they may melt something in the headlight plastic lens. Has anyone tried that mod? I am currently using ultra white bulbs now (a bulb like the sylvania silverstar ultra).

I've been wondering the same thing. I haven't been able to find the amperage of the headlight relay. But since the Journey is sold in Europe a higher wattage bulb may be possible. I haven't heard of anyone putting a 80/100 HB4 bulb in. The OEM bulbs are Philips, which was a pleasant surprise. I would like to install some higher wattage Hella's but like you, I don't want to run the risk of melting my headlight lens.

  15. Hello anyone that can help!!

I have a dodge journey, and recently the tyre pressure light came on, i put air in it - but actually am not really sure what is the correct pressure for the tyres, both front and back, i have looked in my handbook and cannot find it anywhere, please please, please someone help me.

No in all seriousness, does anyone know where i can find this info, or should i just call a dealer???

    Thanks in advance x

It depends on the tire. Look on the sidewall of the tire and it will tell you the maximum PSI that you can safely put in the tire. I know that my 19's are maximum 44PSI. I run at 40PSI all of the time.
