  1. Hi guys......

I can't seem to find the previous thread where advice was given as to why not to purchase Sylvania silverster, and instead go for a Mopar HI R something?

Reason that was given is that the Sylvania version is no better than the factory lights on the 2014 CVP??? I want the cheapest option possible for brighter lights to be used for Winter driving. I am in Canada

    Thanks

  2. Hello folks.....update to this car Canadian Value Package

    - Had another driver go into the side of me last December. I haven't fixed the driver side (mid way / bottom part) door yet

For Winter Tires......what size options do I have to replace the tires in the pics for Winter driving? 17" are expensive and I don't want to spend a lot of money as I am on a budget.

    - If I was to buy just two for now, where should the 2 be installed?

    Thanks

  3. Hello Mate,

Thanks for the recommendation. So where is the best place to get this for us Canucks? I'll be looking to change both the Lo and Hi beams....the factory bulbs on the CVP (no fog lights), is bordering on ridiculous and driving from 5pm onwards is just bloody dangerous

For the highs go with a 9011 HIR bulb, it's a perfect fit. I would go this way over HID just for the instant on, no warm up time.

You will be wasting your money going with Silverstars! Silverstars offer the same amount of lumens, or less lumens then your current bulbs. They have a slight blue coating that gives a whiter look over normal bulbs. That whiter look makes you think the bulbs are brighter but they are not as the lumens are less. Lumens determine actual brightness.
Your best lighting options with a halogen bulb would be HIR bulbs.

    Hi Beam: 9005, 12.8V, 65W, 1700 lumens, 320 hours.
    Hi Beam ... HIR1(9011), 12.8V, 65W, 2530 lumens, 400 hours.
    Silverstar ultra: 9005, 12.8V, 65W, 1700 lumens, 100 hours.

    Lo Beam: 9006, 12.8V, 55W, 1006 lumens, 360 hours.
    Lo Beam ... HIR2(9012), 12.8V, 55W, 1875 lumens, 1000 hours.
    Silverstar ultra: 9006, 12.8V, 55W, 1000 lumens, 200 hours.

    HID capsule - 35 watts - 2800 lumens

  4. I understand the reason for wanting a system which may only require one treatment etc... and a touch-up here and there. But, I have always done the old oil spray from Ontario Stop Rust ( Windsor Ontario) for over 25 years now. I let them tell me what combination of product to use and where ( standard / dripless) figured they have seen enough to know. For about $100 , I only do it every other year and have NEVER had a rust issue. If it works, why try and fix it ? Just let your car sit on the road for 4 -5 days then, wash it looking for any surface with extra oil seeping from drip holes.

Wife talked me into buying that 12 volt system in the new Chevy Trax bought in August. Guaranteed for life against any rusting but, again why fix what was not broke ? But, it is her car, we will see.

I saw one Trax today....how is the mrs enjoying her car?

  5. Hello all,

I haven't be on for a while, but have been enjoying my 2014 DJ purchased back in March. I have been busy closing off a chapter in my life (divorce), and am glad it's all over now, and can move on with my life.

The most important thing from the get go for me, was having 50-50 custody of our son, and although the ex made this difficult, I didn't cave to her BS and took her to court over it and got what I wanted.

It's fair to say that there is no point for me getting married again in my 40s, if I have any intentions of enjoying retirement and keeping my pension that I narrowly managed to keep, as well as no alimony payment.

So this was my summer :-) How was yours guys? LOL

  6. Good evening all,

Hope everyone had a good summer, and managed to go on road trips with their DJs? Also currently looking at Winter tires at the moment, but if anyone here in Ontario has come across any good deals, please let me know. My Canadian value pkg tire size is 225/65/17

What size tire can I go with in order to raise the height for clearance during Winter?

    Thanks in advance

  7. I think I know what you are referring to. I bought a cheaper rack at Menards that had the "wobble." I took it apart at the pivot point and slid some appropriately sized fender washers in there and tighten the bolts. The wobble is nearly gone. I also replaced the pin with a nut/bolt because I rarely open the hatch with a bike on.

That will be one course of action, but I access the trunk a lot. Thanks for the washer ideas though

  8. I picked up a good used Saris model 1047P Guardian in a used-goods store for $10.00. It is probably not the model or design that Saris would have matched with the Journey, but it works fine.

I don't have a hitch on our Journey, but if I did, I would adapt this rack to one that would swing around to the right side of the vehicle. There would be an arm extending from the hitch a bit over half way to the right side, with a hinge at that end, and a pin someplace along the middle to hold it in place while driving. (Maybe the arm would have to go over farther than I think, or have other pivot points - I've never tried to mock this up.) My objective would be to be able to swing the bike(s) over to the side so that I could have direct access to the trunk when the hatch lid is up. It seems to me that the type that has you lay the bike down still really restricts access to the trunk area. (I have never had one, or even seen anyone lay one down, so it's just my impression.)

That is not the case in my situation.....I am able to access the trunk with no problem at all

  9. hell that's pretty sick, less than 20 bucks for a dvr, now im deffinly getting one, esspesialy for the jack wads that drive where I live..... hell might get 2 of them and mount one in the back that way if some idiot rams me from the rear they will be on vid, and will make a claim a hell of a lot faster, just email the vid to insurance and done son hahahahaha

I'll suggest you get 4.....2 for each side of the car also......to catch the silly buggers that might try to come at ya from the sides

  10. I also have a curt hitch and I have an allen sports bike rack and it came with an anti-wobble hitch bolt that works very well. I looked on their website and they sell the bolt separately (use the 1/2" bolt for the 2" hitch). I'm not sure if they ship to Canada but at least this will give you an idea as to what you need. Here is a link to their site:

    http://www.allensportsusa.com/products/No%20Wobble%20Bolt2

Thanks for that......however, the wobblying for me is happening where the bicycle hitch meets the Curt joint i.e. if you look at my picture, the part where the PIN holds the 2 hitches in place. If it was snug, there will be no wobbly movement

  11. He lives straight north of me and it hasn't stopped raining her for more than a day or so in the last several weeks... It REALLY sucks. I have a black DJ, so its spotted like a leopard with pollen and dried rain. Drives me nuts!

Well...you know you can paint it....I mean Mod it :-)

  12. I have the Canadian Value package.....there is no fog lights here, just the normal headlights. What is the cheapest option / route for me to replace what is there in order to get better lighting for night driving?

I am also not impressed with how dark it becomes inside when you switch the headlights on at night....I obviously don't want to be driving around with the map / dome lights on
