  1. The local Chrysler dealer says the problem is the transfer case. something internal with it. they are replacing the entire unit. fortunately they are picking up 1200$ of the 1600$ bill. has anyone ever heard of this?

I just had mine replaced yesterday. It sounded like flapping on both sides of the front end. It's fixed but now it feels and sounds like a tank. The manager said it's normal for the first little bit to be like that. We'll see.

  2. I assume this is straight line stopping with no steering involved.

If it only happens with brakes applied I would think that they are

the source. You no doubt have had the pads/rotors checked for

wear and warping at the dealer and/or independent brake shop.

Try using the transmission to slow (gearing down) to eliminate

the drive train from the suspected source.

If it's a '09-'10 a complete brake job may be your only alternative

    to resolving.

Thanks Bigtsr for replying. I've had the brakes replaced twice in the past 2 yrs. The first time was when it was 3 months old and after the pads warranty expired. I can't imagine it being the drivetrain, imagine spinning the tire on your bike and trying to stop it with the stick rubbing and vibrating on the tread. Starts out fast sounding until it slows and comes to a stop. They've taken it for a drive and heard it but don't have a clue on what it could be.

  3. Hi!

    Car produced in 2008, 2.4.

When I tried to turn the ignition switch, nothing had happened. Fuses are ok. The battery is also full. Does anybody have an idea what could it be? Why I can't start the car? Thx.

Not sure if this is your problem, but I remember reading about someone who had a problem with the switch that determines if the tranmission is in park. There are a lot of conditions that must be met to start one of these cars. As the above poster mentioned it could also be the key fob, so you could try your other fob and see if it makes a difference.

Happy Motoring, and let us know what you find the problem to be.

This is exactly what it is. The vehicle won't start if it's not in park, so you have to jiggle the shifter back and forth when in the park position. This is only a quick fix solution to start the vehicle. I believe the solution is replacing the TRANSMISSION RANGE UNIT OR SELECTOR. I had the problem for a year but once it was changed 3 months ago it hasn't happened since. Hope this works for you!

  5. I have a 2010 R/T AWD and it starts vibrating around 60KMs & between 80-90kms per hour. I let off the gas , it stops , but I can make it happen again 90% of the time just by slowly accelating back to 80-90 km/hr.

I also find that when acccelating at low speeds it's slow to respond. At least now I know I'm the only one w/ this problem. But I love... checked out the Escape, & Equinox, and they just didn't compare to the Journey ....more bang for the buck.

It handles great in snow .... I'm from Amherstburg, Ontario

Mine is doing the same thing. When I hit between 80-100 kph it shudders really bad. Nothing before or after that speed. The dealer doesn't have a clue!

  6. I just put new rotors and pads on my 09 journey this weekend. Rotors in the real are solid just like they were, the fronts are vented just like they were. The pad ARE NOT ceramic, just regular. Now when i apply them there is a grumble that occurs twice during the braking. Does anyone know what is going on? If I need to replace the pads I want to do it now before the wear into the rotors. :jackinbox:

I had a similiar problem when I replaced my front pads. There was a grumbling, rubbing noise and the shop couldn't figure out what was causing it. It finally came down to replacing the pads again. Turns out there was a crack from the top of the pad(about half inch). I took them back and put a new set on, hasn't been a noise yet.

  7. Don't know if any of you realized this but the pads they are using to replace the crappy ones are still the same crappy ones. You would think they'd switch to something else. So those of you who had them replaced with the crappy ones, be prepared to do so again in a few months. I was livid when they told me they needed to be replaced and they were beyond warranty. I switched to ceramic and haven't had a problem since.

  8. Now I know the iPhone can be used with u-connect to make calls and such, but can the MyGig play the music on my iPhone thru the integration cable? Usually when you plug in the cable to the iPHone it will display "this accessory is not recognize...do you want to turn airplane mode on?"

I've had a problem making calls with my iPhone, the calls get dropped. Dealer said there was nothing he could do but wait for an update.

  9. Has anyone had any success using bluetooth with the iPhone and the myGig system. The wife and I both have iPhones and were excited when we first bought the journey because it had bluetooth to make handsfree calls. The first day the salesman tried to connect our phones and you could start a call but the call would get dropped. He said it was nothing and he'll look into it. Well it's been a year and we still can't make a call with out phones. Any one have any luck with this? I've read some where that they fixed it by changing the computer or something.

  10. it happened to me last night...drove all day went to son's practice and nothing tried to jump it ..and nothing..went back an hour later..and jiggled the gear shift it started took it to the dealer today and they said it was the computer brain of the car out..and they are on back order at least 5 day's...

I had that same problem starting 2 months after we got it. We called roadside which was free to get a boost and it started up. A week later the same thing but i hit the shifter by accident and guess what, it started right up. This went on for months and all we had to do was jiggle the shifter back and forth. Thing was it became more consistant. the dealer had no clue what was wrong, the third fix attempt was to change that starter, it hasn't happened since.

  11. The problem I've been having is a hard rubbing noise when braking. At first it was sporadic but now its everytime I come to a stop. Hard or soft braking still the same noise. It sounds like the tire rubbing, like the tread rubbing against something. A fast howling grrrrrr that slows as the vehicle slows. The dealer is playing the guessing game. Help lol

  12. I just purchased my Dodge Journey RT,AWD with 19"Kuhmo tires 2 weeks ago and would like to hear from others who have gone through a winter with snow and ice and would comment how the car handled in these conditions. Although I have a Durango with 4 wheel drive I plan to drive this winter it is inevitable I will get caught in the snow at some point this winter with the Journey. From looking at the tire pattern they don't seem to be too much of a all weather tire but I do like the way the Journey handles on dry and wet pavement. Are snow tires a must for good handling in snow and ice or can I get by with the AWD and OEM tires?

I have the 19 inch rims and it took forever to find thr right rims. I finally found 16 rims from the dealer and went with firestone winterforce. I didn't bother with the TPMS and had to sign a paper clearing the dealer of any responsibility for not having the monitors installed. just have to deal with the 30 second chime and the warning light on which is nothing. We just got some snow the other day and the awd does awesome. I tried to get it stuck but it drove through like a tank. I was quite surprised by the starting and stopping, it's great.

  13. It's the shifter, the only way to start it is in park. There is a switch that must engage in order to start. mine started to do this a month after I got it, we even called roadside for a boost. A month later it wouldn't start again(only a click) so I jiggled the shifter and voila she started. Its got worse and more often so I am taking her in on friday. I'll keep you informed.

The same thing happened to us while we were away. I tried to start it and just got a click like the battery was dead. We called roadside and gave a us a boost and worked great for about a week. The truck had less than 12000km. Every other week it would do the same but I wiggled the shifter back and forth and it would start. As the summer passed it got more frequent and we took it into the dealer and the guy diagnosed it as the starter. they replaced it and it hasn't happened since. been 2 months.

  14. As a result of the information posted here I took my Journey RT with 10,500 miles into the dealer to have the brakes checked. They replaced the front and rear rotors under warrenty but said the pads were fine. I don't understand brakes well so could someone tell me why the rotors and pads would be bad in some cases and just the rotors in others? How long can I expect the replacement rotors to last?

They are just telling you the pads are fine for now and make you wait til the 20000 km are up so they don't have to incur the costs. They'll wait til the warranty is up like they do with every other thing. Get a second opinion soon from a place that does a free brake inspection, just make sure you do it before the warranty is done.

  15. You can even go down to a 16" steel rim. Don't forget that the Journey SE had 16" rims and there's no difference in the braking system. I have a 2010 SXT and the dealer gave me a set of 16" winter tires to go on in the place of my 17" mags.

Thanks djbade. I'm taking the truck up to the dealer today and he's going to try a tire from another journey in the lot. Hope it works so I can be done with this headache.

  16. Ya but did you downsize from the 19's and did the 16's fit over the brake calipers? For those that dropped tire size from a 19 inch to 17's, did you have trouble finding steel wheels, where did you find them, did they clear the rotors and brake calipers with any trouble. this was a common question from after market places that sold steel wheels. They wouldn't put one on to see if it clears unless I bought a steel rim first. Responses asap would sure be appreciated. Thanks

THE QUESTION IS THATS DRIVING ME CRAZY IS....ON A 09 SXT WITH 19 INCH WHEELS, WILL 17 INCH STEEL WHEELS FIT AND CLEAR THE CALIPERS.
