  1. I have this unit too, i was wondering if someone can point me an alternate GPS software to download.

You can find help at gpsundergound

    I am using iGo primo

I haven't looked lately but I would think just about anything that will run in WinCe 5 you could load on the card and point the GPS setting to start that program.

  2. Those who have installed the Chinese unit, does it retain the heating and cooling adjustment screen? I have a 2013 Dodge Journey SXT with 3.6L engine and Uconnect 4.3 screen. One must use the graphic screen to adjust, as the controls below the 4.3 screen only control a subset, the fan speed, temperature, A/C on/off and defrost. Rest are controlled by the graphic screen.

Yes as Lebowski says, it just replaces the screen and buttons but switches video between Mopar unit and Chinese unit.

If you want to stay on the Mopar screen just tap one of the controls for Mopar twice otherwise it reverts back to the Chinese screen. I use the backup camera connection, bluetooth and Navigation of the Chinese unit the most. I have two phones so having two bluetooth connections is pretty handy these days because its illegal to hold your phone in so many states now.

If you are looking for an 8" screen this is probably your least expensive route. There is a thread about buying a used 8" uconnect navigation and installing.

  3. Oh ok, so they have it set up to where it's easily customizable pretty much then? That's good to know. So the next question is, I've looked at the pictures of it, and I may be blind, but where is the SD card slot?

It's not really what I would call customizable, but it will let you select any program file off of the Navigation MicroSD card to launch when you press the GPS or Navi button. You won't see the card slots in the pictures, there are 2 MicroSd card slots under a door just to the left of the Radio button. It actually looks like another button, it's the furthest on the left end.

  4. Hmm, sounds pretty good. Do the built in USB, and auxiliary jacks work with this radio also? And when you say they are "dated", are they similar to the factory radio looks? Because to me, they are pretty dated looking themselves. And how do you go about updating software? Does the radio have wireless, or can you flash via the SD card?

Usb and SDcard work better on the Dodge software. This unit just splits video and audio to the new monitor, so you don't loose any of the original functionality. Basically all your doing is getting a larger display and adding DVD, and Navigation. It uses all the original radio, there is no radio. It adds video input and outputs for a rear view camera, and or rear video screens.

You load Navigation software on an mini SDcard, that is what I changed. There are some other menu screens you can find and download to run in front of the Navigation software, but jsut added to the complexity of the software, so I gave up on that.

  5. Just jumping on the DJ bandwagon here. How happy with this radio are you guys, now that you've had it for a while, and had a chance to really test it, and use it for extended periods of time?

Welcome. I drive my car daily and have found that I don't use the extra functions that often, Sirus gave me a 3 month trial so I listen to that a lot. The previous post about locking into the normal Dodge screen is great. I do Love the large screen, and the fact that when I go into reverse the screen automatically switches to the backup camera. The DVD player works just fine, of course bright sunlight will wash it out, but that is pretty rare. I find that the screen is acceptable. Navigation works ok, I upgraded the software. The settings allow you to change the program that the Navi button launches, so I have experimented with different programs. I was hoping to find a way into the system to make it default to the Dodge video, but no luck. I don't have an Ipod so I can't talk to that, but I expect it would work much like the SDcard reader and USB reader, those options work but are very dated. That is the most disappointing part, the media player program just plain sucks.

So if you want to add DVD, Navigation and a backup camera it works well for those functions. The bluetooth works also but it is also dated software. If you didn't get Uconnect it would work good to add bluetooth also. If you want to play music from a USB, just stick with the built in on the Dodge radio.

If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them for you.

  6. This is what I did: see this post

This will give you a Chinese Navigaiton system, with iPod interface and allow you to play DVD's on the 8" screen.

It does not replace the radio, just the screen and buttons.

If you want better radio and sound, I doubt you will find anything that will fit the screen location without a LOT of modifications.

Remember the climate controls are part of the radio interface, along with the outlet and general settings. You will still need the built in touch screen for some options and settings.

  7. Hello Immjg. I found a trick. If you push any original button (Radio, player, climate) twice very fast, your screen will lock with original Dodge screen, until you push a Navi button

Nice Catch! I'll test it out tomorrow. You just made my Day!! THANKS!

UPDATE Works like a Charm... I can't tell you how happy this makes me!!!! THANKS!!!!

  8. Hello. I got this device, install it. Everything works, but radio and TV buttons not active. My package not included user manual. If you have it, could you share it?

The TV button can't work unless you bought the "TV option" The Device doesn't have a Radio because you use the OEM Dodge Radio. I found a manual online, Here is a link to the one I found, but it does't really match everything the same.

    https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B7BduM8NMlvYQ2xQa0FyelFpM0k

The password on locked screens in the settings is 888888

  9. Hello. I have a few questions about this device

    1. Is it possible to change logo from Fiat to Dodge?

    2. When this unit start, what the main picture start: original Dodge or new from DVD?

    3. Button NAVI calls direct navigation soft?

    1. yes their are 2 Dodge Logos already installed

    2. It boots the new DVD logo , as a matter of fact the Dodge radio screen is difficult to lock to the front. I can get it to work but haven't figgured out the trick.

I think one thing is you can't have anything on the NEW DVD system running.

    3. Yes the NAVI button will start the navigaiton software, the software that came with it had out dated maps. I updated the software and maps, they go on a microsd card.

During navigation use, pushing the button will take you to the Main menu again. When you push the Radio button it switches the screen to the Dodge Radio screen for a few seconds then back to the last screen you were using unless you touch the screen, say like to change channels. Same with the Climit control button, etc.

If you have a camera connected to send video when backing up it will switch to that whenever it sees video on the camera input connection.

Remember this is a "Cheap" Chinese device, it works but is a bit dated....software wise. It is running WINCE 6. Haven't done anything to the built in software, just the navigation software.

It has an ipod input ( untested ) I don't own an ipod.

usb input for mp3's NOT video files

    2 microsd slot for mp3's

2 video output I assume for rear seat screens

I can connect 2 phones to bluetooth, 1 to Dodge system (overrides audio no matter what you are listening to) 1 to DVD system (only hear audio when listening to DVD system audio) this is because you actually use the aux input on the Dodge system to play the audio from the DVD/Nav unit. There is a seperate speaker connected for the Navigation system that sound for they Navigation software plays though all the time (this can be annoying if you are on phone)

It is not an ideal system, but it does work.. I like the BIG screen (especially for the backup camera). The sun does wash it out some, but I have seen worse.

I would say the hardest part of installing was moving the vents from the old to the new.

    Hope this helps.

  10. I've bought stuff from china, takes about a month to come in. No surprise there.

As for me and that radio. Meh..I was hoping more integration that a second radio in the car.

    I've decided I don't like it.

I think if I had the most basic journey set up, this might be appealing, but switching for sat radio, or voice command Bluetooth or iPod would be annoying.

    FYI,

I just got one and got it installed. You don't loose any funtion of your old radio as that is still intact. It switches between the media center device with the built in DVD Navigation + other functions. Has a usb input + mini-sdcard slot, also has input for ipod connection, but I don't own an ipod, I'll have to borrow one from my Granddaughter to test that function. You can buy an additional module for a tv tuner(not included). Switches to Backup camera whenever it sees a signal, then back to normal after signal drops.

Navigation said maps are old (of course) but still works. It looks be be just loaded from the 2nd sdcard that can be loaded with different navigation software.

DVD plays so far as I have tested.

The one I got had the wrong keyed video connection to the radio I had to fix, and you have to disassemble the original display to use a card from it.

I didn't receive any manuals, or install instructions. I got someone from ebay to send me some, because the folks in China are on "Holiday" until the 7th.

If your interested in seeing these instructions let me know, not sure if I can post them here.

  11. I am so glad I found this forum. Very helpful info here.

I purchased a 2010 in May and it turned out to have a VIN problem so Chrysler bought it back from me. Got all my Money back and since I really liked the 2010 and the 2011 was big time improved I got another one at the end of August. I LOVE this car! I bought a silver one this time because my last 3 Cars were Red and when I bought the 2010 some people didn't even notice I had a new car. I love Red but this Silver one is growing on me. I have gotten plenty of compliments on this one so I think it's a keeper. This 2011 Crew with the 19" wheels really looks good to me. The 2011 is so much nicer than the 2010, padding in the door panels, LED lighting and I like the dash layout better.

  12. $520, shipping included, on aliexpress.com (search for "fiat freemont").

Prices are falling since the last time I looked, since there are more vendors offering it.

$550 shipped to US, I am on the fence to buy one. Still waiting on an order I placed a month ago. If that shows up ok and in good shape I may give it a try. I like the idea that it just replaces the display with a larger screen + add DVD , Navigation and backup camera for 1/3 the price of Dodge's. I used a laptop with an 8" touch screen in my Nitro, but that was not built in like this is. Software looks a little dated, the iPod and mp3 software looks very primitive, but there are many hacks and different software for these WINCE devices. Looks usable as is.

  13. Does the AVP, be able to program my codes to ativate the drls. It will not turn on from the menu. Will dealership turnmine on.

I have a 2011 Crew and they won't turn on either. I think I'll go to the dealer and ask them about it. Explain why does the option to turn them on exists if they aren't there and see if they will turn them on. I figure I have nothing to loose.

  14. They is a wrecker from Michigan.

And I just found out the bezel isn't included and don't seem to have it available... Poop!

If you take out your 4.3 AC panel, you'll see that the cut out is already there, it just isn't finalized or punched thru. I think it fits. I just want to make sure, electronically, it works.

If you don't want to buy it @ that price I'd be willing to give it a go. PM me their info if you don't want it.

  15. In the first page it says to enter the "Dealership menu" to save the settings to an usb stick.

    How?

The only hidden menu I know for the radio is the one you enter pressing for 10 seconds the up and down temperature buttons at the same time as the front defrost, but in that menu there's no option to copy settings to the usb memory (at least on the 4.3, which is where the settings are to be saved from).

I would assume that the dealer service dept. has that ability with their computer connected to the system. I don't think you can do it without the service computer connected.

  16. You're right, it shouldn't.

But just think.. If your key is running low on battery, and you just happen to throw it in the backseat inside a purse. You step out after shutting off the car. Now you're stuck outside...

Well maybe my girlfriend hit the lock button as she got out of the car ( she used to to that all the time in my Nitro) after your scenario...... Stuck outside also.

I think you guys missed the whole point...... It should be an option that I can chose to use, knowing the risks of being locked out.

Man if I ever left my keys in my Nitro, I would have been locked out so many times I couldn't count them. You can turn off the passive entry, it would have been nice if they had a passive lock on exit. That's all, doesn't need to be the default option, just thought it would be nice the have the option. I was hoping I missed the setting and someone would suggest the correct way to turn it on. A guy can dream can't he?

I really think the chances of getting locked out is much lower than someone breaking into my car because I forgot to lock it and it didn't lock automagically a few minutes after the car saw the "key is not in the vehicle".

  17. Here's an idea for a soft mount for a GPS or phone. I took the rubber tray out of the pocket under the 4.3 screen and turned it around and pushed the little pins back in the holes.... now I have a small soft tray sticking out that I can set my small GPS or lay my Cell phone on its side. It's like having an over/under display with the radio on top gps right below.

  18. You're bitching about having to press a little button to lock the car when you leave it? That or the key fob is the only way to do it. Ain't likely to change any time soon.

NOT bitching just asking if I missed how to program the car to auto-lock. Many security alarm systems, can do this, and I was hoping that maybe someone might know something I missed. Apparently not, so I guess I need to re-program my brain.
