What are the ohm values for each of the Alpine system speakers?
Is it really THAT important to match those values with aftermarket speakers? I wouldn't be at risk for frying the 8.4 head unit if my replacement speakers didn't have the same values, would I?
-
If we go for the fix, is it a free repair (i.e., like a recall)? My 3 year warranty just expired so if I have to pay tons of money for the fix, I won't do it as it's not even guaranteed to work.

The Alpine site showed the subwoofer as a round speaker. I have seen others post it is an 8" speaker and used in other Dodge products where it sounds much better. The amp seems to be the reason it is not so great in the Journey. the amp settings as to what it sends to the speakers and sub suck. I found a guy who tested the signals and posted the results on YouTube, it seems the factory amp does not send out various sections of the full sound range frequency. It does seem the amp, thru some process unknown to me, can have its firmware adjusted. It would be nice if the dealers could do this, my dealer say they do not have that ability. Going thru most every post about the Alpine system, I found posts that talked about firmware service update posts that seemed to suggest problems had been found and there was some way to get the amp updated. Sadly, no clues as to how that was done. If the Dodge moderator is reading this, so many would be so happy if the could take the amp to the dealer and have the ability to change the amps settings to match their preference.
I had my amp firmware updated by my dealer (at the same time as my emissions and steering unit firmware). I can't really tell a difference in sound quality. It is still subpar.

How could the dealer not understand that the key fob *has* to have a battery in it? Either that, or the laws of physics have changed to allow the key fob to be powered by electricity created out of thin air.

2013 R/T changes:
Heated steering wheel with red stitching
Dimpled leather seating
High-performance suspension
$1,000 lower sticker price

Could you post a link to the deluxe splash guards? Are they a Mopar product? I am aware of the flat molded splash guards, but not the deluxe ones.
I know that only FRONT flat molded splash guards are available for the 2012-2013 Journey. Front and rear splash guards are available for the 2009-2011 Journey, but according to my dealer (who contacted Chrysler about this to double check), the rear splash guards do not fit the 2012-2013 Journeys.
There's also the extremely slim possibility that Chrysler is wrong about this. Has anyone successfully installed the 2009-2011 rear splash guards on a 2012 or 2013 Journey?

OK. Just trying to figure out how to control it. If it is plug and play, I could just give the remote to the kiddo. She is getting bored of DVD's! She doesn't watch much TV at home except for PBS so I figured some "junk TV" in the car is OK!

The 2013 R/T reportedly will receive a new "high performance" suspension. Now THAT is something I would be interested in. The shocks and springs on my R/T are not quite firm enough for me, and there is a bit more roll and sway in cornering than I'd like. I realize the R/T is not a sports car, but I crave a more European feel to the handling, even if the Journey is just a people-mover! I wonder if the new suspension will be available as a retrofit for earlier Journeys. See here:

Just read at Allpar that the 2013 R/T will have several interior changes, including dimpled leather seats and a heated, dimpled, and red-stitched leather steering wheel. I wonder if that steering wheel can be retrofitted onto earlier Journeys?

I know that Sirius Backseat TV is not available as a factory option in 2012 Journeys. However, has anyone installed it in a 2012 either through a dealer or aftermarket retailer? If so, how does it integrate with Uconnect?
I am thinking about getting this for entertaining the kiddo, but don't know how well it will operate. Thanks!

I have this problem. If I fill the tank all the way up without topping off, the gauge reads a bit under the full mark. If I top off the tank a significant amount, sometimes it will read full, other times not. A little frustrating!
-
I'll go for it. Maybe a red Charger R/T badge too. Might be a little too tacky, though.
-
Yeah, see my reply to you in the Daytime Running Lights thread. Annoying that us Journey owners don't get the benefit of the Uconnect update's bug fixes and additional features. Oh well, at least Siri still works in our vehicles!
-
Right, when I read the actual TSB, I did not see the Journey listed. Weird that they updated Uconnect for almost all vehicles except the Journey.
The bugs that the firmware update addresses are present in the current version of Uconnect for the Journey, unfortunately. Some of them are annoying. I'd like to have the additional features (such as the enhanced phone book support) as well.
Were you told why the firnware update does not apply to the Journey?
-
Here's a link the a pdf of the TSB. It actually doesn't list the Journey! So, as of March, 2012, there is new Uconnect firmware, but perhaps not for our vehicles. Weird, as I would really like some of these enhancements. I guess the only way to know if you can get the update is to talk to the dealer.

At WWDC 2012 Apple announce Siri car integration.
Chrysler logo was on the screen at the back of Tim Cook.
we hope
The newest Uconnect update (for cars manufactured before 1/1/12) broke Siri support. Let's hope another update is coming soon.
Of course the TSB mentions the added features but doesn't mention that Siri no longer works!
TSB # is 08-018-12
More info (and a firmware download for the adventurous) here (see post #14):
-
Where'd you hear that? I'm not aware of a new firmware available for Uconnect.
Yep, available for all vehicles manufactured before 1/1/12. See here:

TSB # is 08-018-12
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer satisfaction enhancements are included with this software release:
NOTE: After the HFM has been updated it will receive these enhancements.
· Reduced “Device Reading” wait time after connecting a device to the remote USB port.
· Call / Dial separation improves upon names being recognized as phone numbers.
· Improved sound quality during Bluetooth streaming.
· Increased iPod and iPhone compatibility.
· SMS messaging support via MAP protocol (not all phones support the MAP
protocol).
· Added “None of These” and “Correction” to the phone book prompt menu for better
handling of similar names.
· Previous button will return the song currently being played to the beginning of the
track.
· AirPlay feature “Dock Connector” no longer needs to be manually selected on Apple
devices. This will resolve the “No Audio” condition when the device is connected to
the remote USB port and dock connector is not selected.
NOTE: USB mode resume will no longer 'resume' after ignition OFF

Any updates? Did that March 1, 2012 released date pan out?
-
Thanks for the info! I was wondering if/when badges with the red stripes would be released . . .
-
You definitely would have to run power, signal, and remote turn-on wires to the new amp. It would also be hard to get a sub to fit in that extra OEM location and you'd probably be stuck mounting it in the rear trunk area. I'd check somewhere like Crutchfield.com to see what subs they recommend.
-
and just to back that up,Allpar.com had this mention: "The Challenger SE's 13 horsepower increase over otherPentastar engines is due to "a more aggressively designed intake air system" which increased airflow from 214 to 220 g/s. The cam is identical"
So, if you want to get the same HP, try swapping out your air intake :D
13 extra horsepower and 8 additional lbs/ft of torque? I doubt you'd ever notice a difference!
Rear Fog Lights

The European headlight switch on the Fiat Freemont has functionality to control the rear fogs. Also visible is the headlight leveling dial that takes the place of the useless door pocket dimmer present on some Journeys. Not present in this photo are the button for power folding mirrors, stick shift, center mounted parking brake, and thinner and taller armrest on top of the center console. Anyway, the Euro switch could be available for ordering through Fiat service, if not Mopar.
