  1. I had my rotors replaced around 20k miles and the dealer supposedly did some kind of caliper "fix" I am now brake pulsing again at 46K miles.

This is the first vehicle Ive owned since my 1974 Dodge Power Wagon and my ex wifes 2008 Caliber (that I didnt drive) that Ive had to replace rotors.

  2. If you've done all of your service maintenance at the dealer and your warranty just expired they should extend the warranty as a reward for customer loyalty or at least make you only cover half of the cost. I know that Honda did that with my brothers 99 Accord when the transmission broke down and he was like a 1,000 km's past the warranty. Anyhow, if they don't do anything for you & your warranty is expired at least you can have the satisfaction of telling the service manager to piss off while you take your business elsewhere. ;)

Thus far both Dodge and the dealer has been pretty decent to me. Regardless though, the number of things that have needed to be fixed in under 50K miles is excessive.

  3. Well the answer to the question is in. Needless to say Im disgusted as the smell has been there from time to time over the last year and a half, with the fluid noises being more recent. I thought nothing of it as theres a large puddle often at the end of driveway which causes hot wet smells regularly.

Where Im disgusted is that now the vehicle is out of warranty and apparently the radiator is cracked to the tune of $600 for a new one. Had I taken it in at the first "smell" which was when the vehicle was practically new this would have been taken care of along with one of the other dozen or so repairs over numerous visits.

Honestly this LUX has been in the shop more in two years and 40,000 miles than my last three vehicles combined.

  4. Now that Ive realized a mistake in reading coolant levels (oops) it was pretty low and (I believe) sucking coolant from the heater core hence the noise.

So the new question is if there are any known leaks, problems that would be a good place to start looking. I can smell the leak when the vehicle is warm after a long drive, not while its cold.

  5. How has the heating been this winter?

It could be an air lock in the coolant path thru the

heater core, this can cause overflow from coolant

    bottle and the smell.

Heat was great all winter. I just checked it this afternoon and coolant was a little low but never has there been any puddles under the vehicle.

  6. So Im not sure if this is the right forum but since coolant does go through the engine I thought Id start here.

Since ownership my particular Journey has been a joy to drive but not necessarily to own. That said, Chrysler has been very easy to deal with and I have zero complaints with them or my dealer.

The problem began a few months ago while the vehicle was still under warrranty. Due to a clerical error I now realize I should have taken it in then as this is not considered powertrain of which I have the 100K mile warranty.

All that aside, heres the situation.

A few months ago I noticed a smell of coolant occasionally when exiting the vehicle but thought it was how i parked or something. Lately I notice the smell a bit more but the coolant doesnt seem low.

Now and Im not sure if its something I just never noticed but when I start it up I can hear a lot of coolant "running, sloshing" what ever type of pumped through noises upon start up? I also can hear some "sloshing" noises at low speed while swinging wide in parking lots etc.

    Any ideas?

  7. You do realize that the heated driver's seat will only come on with the remote start when the outside temperature is 4.4 Celsius (40 Farenheit) or less? That is in the owner's manual.

After a little reading, i did find that. Thanks for mentioning though.

To update after many months, the new electronics seem to be working fine with only (twice) a small glitch but only on very humid, wet, cold days. The glitch also went away immediately after restarting the vehicle.

  8. I now notice that the remote start isnt functioning properly. Even though I have the heated seats set to turn on, they dont. The horn is set to honk and it does.

So far I havent noticed any problems with the cruise other than its a little slower to respond with added throttle on hills than my past vehicles.

The LUX goes to the dealer tomorrow for a transmission column bezel (broken and wont allow auto stick). They are going to play with it some more as (according to them) Chrysler is now involved.

Again, the dealer and Chrysler have been great thus far.

    Stay tuned,

    Buffy

  9. If your looking for traction in snow then go with snow tires instead and leave the Kumho's for spring, summer and beginning of fall when traction is really not an issue. Last winter when my wife slid into the curb damaging the wheel bearing that was what I did and I can tell you that the Hankook i-pikes I put on it was worth every penny! Great traction that you will never get from an all-seasonal tire. I don't know if your model comes with 17" tires like mine but the tire shop I dealt with went with the 16" tires which saved me some coin.

We run snow and ice tires with a different set for summer on my wife's Caliber, I just hate to have to stack, store, flip, and flop with two cars.

My local guy is giving me a phenomenal price on the Optimos so Im really leaning (at least for this year) that way.

Looking at the tread pattern, I have to believe they will be (at least) an improvement, which is really all im looking for right now.

    Optimistic on the Optimos;

  10. You can read Hankook Optimo review from consumers here: http://www.tirerack....ireMake=Hankook

Thanks for the link. The problem is that there are so many opinions from so many owners of (again) so many different vehicles.

Im looking for a reasonably priced tire for my Journey LUX AWD and hoped i could find someone who could compare the stock tires to the Optimo's. Im not looking for the worlds greatest tire but hopefully something thats at least a little better in the snow than the stock Kumhos.

  11. Although the speedo difference is only 1% (meaning you'll be doing 60.6mph when reading 60mph) wouldn't the tire width be too much and have potential for tire rub when doing a hard turn?

Not from what Ive been told. Which is that Chrysler said that "the 235 is ok" in an effort to give Journey owners more choices.

  12. My local tire guy has a great deal going on Hankook Optimos in the 235/50/19 size that Chrysler (according to my research) has "Ok'd" for use on the Journey.

Can anyone in the snowbelt give me some feed back on these tires? Looking at the tread design I have to believe they're going to be better than the stock Kumhos.

    Thanks in advance,

    Buffy

  13. Long time lurker first time poster here with a question.

My 2011 LUX with the voice activated NAV is going into the dealer to get some updates. My question is what are the updates to the electronics and what will they supposedly do?

This all came about when I scheduledthe vehicle in for service after it (voice activation) started to require more than one button push and not defaulting back to audio after phone calls etc. Nothing major just not functioning like it did when it was new.

    Anybody,

    Buffy
