  1. i just saw this thread and i am floored, since i have been feeling the same thing- each time 65mph it shakes like it going to blow up. oil changes are good and up to date (3000 on dot) air filter is good (less then 3000) tires balnced ( this is what i thought it was) and still no hope. although it is less then it was when first started. it is still there...

it just drives me crazy with the shimmy feeling, i travel alot of highway for work so its like i am traped in the 65-70mph zone as a cruze.

i went to the dealer once- the blamed it on brakes- all re-done and still it acurred, i was close to an oil change so i waited a week- brought it back in.

They checked it out- did a throttle body cleaning (that i didnt approve yet try to charge me for) and didnt even change the oil ( i know so for sure).

after a 30min talk with the manager- i left with my money and havent returned.

Next closest dealer is not close at all- i will not return the dealer (above) and since my time frame in life is difficult, i have to deal with the pulsing front end...

    very fusterating.

shimmy, brakes and water sensative seats are my only issues with the journey and its a shame...really.

i will try this - gas / carbon theory but I cant see why a 43K motor is suffering from carbon build up

I just had a similar issue it was the AGR valve that had to be replaced. It costed about $500 to replace.

  2. It's been 2 years since the last problem I've had and guess what? I have exactly the same issue. I have had to pay for premium gas all these years because that's what was suggested only to have the same problem. There has to be a defect in the engine. After they fixed the issue, has anyone else had it reoccur?

  3. Tammy,

If you want to PM me your VIN I will check for any service bulletins on this issue. I know there was a software update to the powertrain control module (PCM) on some of these vehicles. Your dealer should run your VIN for any software updates that may be available for your vehicle. While the symptoms you describe may not be directly stated in any of these bulletins, it could cause things like the buildup of carbon over time. If the dealer cannot rectify your problem, I suggest that you call the Customer Assistance Center in Canada to have an agent get a Chrysler tech involved. The Canadian Assistance Center's # 800-465-2001.

Thanks so much. The did say they had to update the computer program, but because I don't have the paper work yet, as my car is still in the shop, I don't know exactly what it was for. I'll PM you the info.

  4. My Journey is still at dealership has been there for the last 5 days. This is the third time I have had car at dealership for this problem. Last time they flashed the pcm. It seemed to help for about a week or 2. Took it back in last week and left it with them. It finally did shudder for the service writer but it did not store a code. So as of today they are contacting Chrysler to open up a complaint to see what to do next.

Thanks for replying Bob. I have written to Chrysler Canada about this and it helps to know I am not alone. I suggested they find out what the problem is and replace the engine. My car is still in the shop as well. They actually opened cylinder 5 to see what's happening inside *GASPS* hopefully they will get to the bottome of it. Let me know what you find out please.

  5. OK so this sounds very familiar to the problem I have been having. I have a Dodge Journey R/T 2010 with 44,000 KM's on it. When I took it into the dealership they said engine was misfiring and the problem was in cylinder 5, they changed the spark plugs, coil, did the leak test and a carbon cleanse cause they said I had carbon build up. I questioned how that could be in a brand new vehicle and he blamed the gas I was using. I told him I use the gas the manufacturer specs indicate and he had no answer. We won't go into the Customer Service issues I have with this particular dealership, but as soon as I left the dealership, I have the same problem. Because I did not have confidence in the dealerships ability to take my concerns serious, I took it to another dealership and sent 2 letters to Chrysler Canada so far.

I just got a call from the other dealership, claiming that they are getting the same reading and that the engine was still misfiring and that the problem was still in cylinder 5, but that now they were taking it apart to clean manually because there is carbon build up. Of course I questioned how that can be and the fact that there has to be some other under lying reason.

BTW my engine also revs up when you put it on cruise control, which they answered and said they changed the computer program. WHAT?

Anyway, did any of you ever figure out what the cause of the issue was?

  6. i talked with the service manager today. he said they had a huge staff meeting about AWD and tire tread life. said it was a learning experience and that they won't make this type of mistake again.

OMG so they messed up and expected you to pay for the problem they caused? I would not be taking that lightly. I really think the service you get depends on the dealership and that Chrysler the company should really take our complaints about the individual dealerships that are doing a half arsed job seriously and offer some sort of compensation for the inconveinance caused. Especially when the vehicle is still under manufacturers warranty. We build houses and if a product we installed in a home fails due to defect in workmanship or product, we have to repair or replace at no cost to the owner. I hate when I see a passing of the buck for responsibility. I would investigate this issue further because their story does not sound convincing to me.

  8. I have been trying to browse the forum as best as I can and so far I have not seen a comment of anyone having this issue. My Dodge Journey R/T 2010's engine is sick I think. It has only 44,000 KM's and is under warranty, but it's really acting up. At first I thought it was the transmission cause when I put my foot on the gas to accelerate, the whole car shakes and I feel it in the transmission when I let my foot of the gas. Also when I put my car on cruise control, the engine revs up into the red. This actually cause a very unsafe situation as I was on the highway when it happened and had to pull the vehicle over, turn of the car and start it up again. This happened several times.

The first dealership I went to said there was carbon build up and suggested it was because of the gas I was using. Of course I retorted back that there must be a defect if the manufacturers specs does not indicate that I have to use a higher grade Petroleum. Have any of you with an R/T 2010 have carbon build up and had to use a higher grade Petroleum?

They said that the engine was misfiring in cylinder 5 and they did a leak test, ect..., changed the spark plugs, coil, ect... and did a cleanse to get rid of the carbon build up. But as soon as I left the dealership, it was still shaking when I would accelerate. I won't get into the Customer Service issues I had at the first dealership, but that caused me not to have very much confidence in their ability to fix the problem when it was still happening.

So I took it to another dealership where they were more sympathetic to my plight. Just got a call today from them claiming that they are opening cylinder 5 up to clean manually cause there is carbon build up. How is this possible? There has to be another underlying problem. Has any of you experienced this issue?

  9. I was so happy to stumble across this forum. I noticed most everyone that owns this vehicle has had positive experiences. That was mine in the beginning as well until my engine started to rev up into the red on the highway and everytime I put my foot on the gas to accelerate the entire vehicle started to shake. There is only 44,000 KM's on this vehicle. Has anyone else had this problem?
