Will they fix mine now that it's broken from trying to close it while trying to drive as it kept opening? It seems the pin that it swings down from broke off so now I have paper wedged to hold it up.

  2. My name is Zach Kady. I work at Berk Law PLLC, one of a few law firms handling a class action lawsuit on behalf of Journey owners against Chrysler/Dodge regarding inadequate braking systems on the 2009 and 2010 Journey vehicles. We have recently learned that Dodge has extended some warranties on brake components to 3years/36k miles. I am posting here to find out if anyone has received notice of such an extension. Please reply to the thread or e-mail me at info@berklawdc.com to let us know whether or not you've received this notice. For your convenience, I have attached a standard copy of the notice to this thread so that you can be sure whether or not you've seen it before.

Hey Zach, My question is this... What are you going to do for "us"? I have 62,000 miles on my '09 and am currently on my 4th set of pads and 2nd or 3rd set of rotors, I can't keep track anymore.

  3. I recently noticed some wear on the front tires of my Journey so I rotated them. After doing so, I noticed that the passenger front wheel appeared to be pointing outward. I took it to Firestone and had them do a 4 wheel alignment. I failed to check it before I left, so when I got home and checked it it still appeared to be pointing outward so I brought it back, They were more than happy to do it again, but when they finished it still appeared to be pointing outward. They told me they not only did the alignment again, but they check everything underneath and that it all was tight and in good shape. I don't want to waste my time at a dealer so I thought I'd come here first for ideas. So does anyone have anything they can share? Oh and I DIDN'T hit any curbs or major potholes so having anything bent or damaged from that is N/A.

  4. Actually, first year new models are notorious for having issues thus you get a better warranty (tranny). After all they are the first of their kind out in the real world in real conditions. I waited for a '10 hoping most of the bugs were worked out. With the exception of brakes everything has been minor.

When I pull into my garage I have to turn the wheel to get my Journey in all the way, but when I turn it back to the left I hear a clicking noise. Any idea what this is??

  5. I truly sympathize about the situation with your father and let me offer my condolences. I lost my father recently and he was in pretty bad shape, too.

As for your anti-Chrysler advocacy, that is certainly in your right to do so. I can't say I blame you - I've been outspoken against numerous products/manufacturers over the years that I've felt have done me wrong. I just want to point out something about your opening line: "Just wanted to let Chrysler know after 20yrs of Chrysler products NEVER AGAIN!" Well, this forum is unaffiliated with Chrysler Group LLC, so unless someone from the company is monitoring it, you're really not telling them anything here. I would suggest contacting the customer service number listed in your owners manual. Just because you may have expressed your grievances with your dealer doesn't mean you have expressed them with the manufacturer. Unfortunately, there is a dealer/manufacturer disconnect and sometimes you just have to bypass the dealer completely.

Regarding your problems, the shifting doesn't sound normal, although its very hard to diagnose over the internet. I certainly don't experience what I'd refer to as "harsh" shifting though I have observed the tendency for the transmission to shift up to sixth gear (assuming you have the six speed) faster than I'd like and for it to hold on to sixth longer than I think it should. As others have pointed out, auto-stick is a good workaround to that problem, but it really isn't that big of an issue for me that I have to resort to it often. Also, someone else mentioned that they reported hard shifting to their tech and, after re flashing the PCM, the shifting was smooth again. So maybe you should insist your dealer do this and perhaps go to another dealer if they refuse.

Lastly, the brake problems have been well documented here and elsewhere but are still perplexing to me. It seems to me that for everyone I find complaining about sub 20,000 mi brake wear, I can find another that has no abnormal brake wear at all. I wont even speculate on that. All I can say is that anyone with a Journey should take advantage of the open spoke rims and just keep an eye on the brakes. I can easily "get a finger on" each brake pad and determine if they are wearing thin. Luckily for me, after 6,600 miles, I can still report a lot of "meat" on my pads. At this rate, they'll be fine by the time my 12,000 mi brake warranty is up, but who knows what they'll be like at 20,000. If I see them getting thin, I can replace the pads a whole lot cheaper than the rotors, and that's the whole point of keeping an eye on them.

Believe it or not Chrysler DOES monitor this forum. Many months ago I made several complaints on this forum about this piece of junk and was contacted by a rep from Chrysler. Long story short he sent someone to meet with me and the dealer's service mgr and to take the junker for a ride. This guy sat in the back seat in the middle and watched my foot on the gas pedal to see if I was pushing the pedal up and down to make the car shift hard. WHAT A JOKE! As for the brakes, there is a real problem here. I will assume that most people here would not think that you should have to monitor your brake pads on a NEW car at only 5 or 6000 miles. I have been driving for 30yrs and never have I worn out two pairs of pads in less then 30,000 miles.

So for anyone who thinks Chrylser DOESN'T monitor this forum YOUR WRONG!! (just look for my post a while back)

  6. I had a similiar problem when I replaced my front pads. There was a grumbling, rubbing noise and the shop couldn't figure out what was causing it. It finally came down to replacing the pads again. Turns out there was a crack from the top of the pad(about half inch). I took them back and put a new set on, hasn't been a noise yet.

I will check them, thanks... I thought it may have had something to do with the calipers in the rear since you have to screw the pistons down, unlike the fronts. Thanks again...

  7. I just put new rotors and pads on my 09 journey this weekend. Rotors in the real are solid just like they were, the fronts are vented just like they were. The pad ARE NOT ceramic, just regular. Now when i apply them there is a grumble that occurs twice during the braking. Does anyone know what is going on? If I need to replace the pads I want to do it now before the wear into the rotors. :jackinbox:

  9. Just wanted to let Chrysler know after 20yrs of Chrysler products NEVER AGAIN! I can't believe this piece of junk! I had to drive my father who passed away this last July in this crap to and from his chemo and everytime it shifted and jerked his frail body he moaned, how disgusting!!! I also will inform you that I know of 7 people I TALKED OUT OF A JOURNEY at the dealership. Hell even one left and wouldn't buy a Chrysler product. I want you to also know that the internet is a powerful thing and I am doing everything I can to use it to steer people away from Chrysler! For God sakes people 30,000 mile and two sets of brake pads, one rotor cut twice and now once again new pads, and this time new rotors as well. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!!!!! NO MORE FROM THIS PERSON and again you can count on many, many more due to my opinion of this piece of junk!

  10. I noticed that you wrote this quite a while ago but I'm experiencing the same phenomenon in my 2009 R/T. Did you ever find a solution?

SAME HERE. HAD AN IDIOT FROM CHRYSLER MEET ME AT THE DEALER, HE WENT FOR A RIDE WITH ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY TO SAVE GAS. WHAT A F**KING JOKE!! MINE SHIFTS HARD FROM 2ND TO 3RD AND ON HWYS SEEMS TO SHIFT IN AND OUT OF GEAR AND WILL NOT KEEP SPEED WITHOUT PUSHING THE GAS REPEATEDLY CAUSING A HEAD JERKING SHIFT. GET USED TO IT THEY WON'T ADMIT SOMETHING IS WRONG.

  11. I just had to replace my front pad at 28,000mi, they were worn to NOTHING. I know it's not my driving habits because this has NEVER happened to me before. Anyway, I put ceramic pad on and now I have a squeal in the passenger from when I put the brakes on. I pulled the wheel off reseated the pads, took emery cloth to the rotor and nothing. It doesn't happen all the time, but about 90%. Any ideas??? Thanks.

  12. Periodically after stopping (stop sign, traffic light, etc.) my AWD Journey feels as though someone tapped my bumper from behind. Could it be the transmission downshifting too late? Its quite disturbing and makes you look in the rearview mirror when it happens. Truly feels like someone hit the vehicle.

I am not used to an AWD but perhaps this is normal. Any thoughts? Hopefully it will get better as the miles add up (only 3K now)

Check the topic CLUNKING WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE. I have had this problem from day 2 and now with 28,000 miles I still have it.

  13. That hard shifting problem you have, the first journey we road tested a 6 cyl sxt that had the same problem. You would step on the gas and almost get thrown out of the seat it was so bad. We took it back in and said you have some sort of transmission problem with the demo.

They said the cars all had been washed underneath and a connector must have gotten wet causing the problem. Well when we tested the R/T the salesman drove it didn't have the problem so obviously a certain number of them had some sort of transmission control issue. It would have been made some time in the first 3 months of '08.

Also when we talked to the account guy about rustproofing etc he told us he bought one for his wife that electrically died several times. It turned out the wrong radio/mygig system had been installed causing a deficiency in the electrical system.

Hope you have the problems fixed.

    The Stewie

Hey all check under the trans forum for an update on this car. NEVER AGAIN WILL I OWN A CHRYSLER. 20+ YEARS DOWN THE DRAIN!! I HOPE THEY GO BANKRUPT!!!! :angry22:

  14. For the vibration, look here if it is the same thing: http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/index.php?showtopic=376

Ok, here is the final update. I got the car back from the dealer and here is what happened. They claim they fixed the "buzzing" in the cowl. I won't know that until the weather warms up since that is when the plastic is softer which is when in occurs. The rough shifting at highway speeds still exists. The engineer who rode with me at the dealer said "it's normal" I asked how in the hell could something like that be normal? His reply was "fuel economy" (WHAT THE HELL). I could not get the car to clunk into reverse or drive when he was with me so yup you guessed it NOT FIXED! The only thing that was fixed was the "thud" noise when the brakes were applied. An infant could have figured out what it was. So instead of putting a new rotor on they cut it! I still have the flicker in the dash when I shut the car off. They "could not duplicate the problem" LOL .... They did manage to keep the car for 18 days which cost me $180.00 since they talked me into taking the extra insurance. At the time I thought it was a good idea, I mean how long could they possibly keep the car? Well as I said 18 DAYS!! We all know they did not work on the car for that amount of time and that most likely it sat there. They told me that the tech took it for a ride everyday to try and make my concerns occur. My guess is someone had to run for the coffee. Bottom line is that since the rental car (exactly the same as my Journey) did not have any of the issues mine has that Chrysler is avoiding "US" with our concerns. Oh, and the guy that I was talking to from Chrysler who I met on here did attempt to help, however he now has a new job and I have only heard from him once since I got the car back.

Now for anyone who is having the shifting problem on highways here is something to pay attention to. When I had the loaner I noticed that on the highways I accelerated nice and smooth. When I got mine back I paid extreme attention to this and I think I know what is going on. I believe it is NOT the transmission rather it seems like the car is starving for gas which in turn makes me push harder on the gas, but not enough to really notice unless your paying attention to it. Each time this would happen it gave the impression that it was shifting gears. Now the question is what is causing it and what if anything the dealer will do about it.

Looks like we all bought Chrysler's latest LEMONS and they suck so bad I won't even try to make lemonade!! After 20+ years with Chrysler "NO MORE"!!!! :censored:

  15. I hate it when they say..."That's Normal" or "Can't feel it" or "Its not posting any codes."

My questions are ...Normal compared to what?? other Journeys, other Dodge vehicles or all your competitors vehicles. Also...How bad does it have to be to post a code?

    Hey all,

Further update... I have not heard a word from the dealer! I am still driving the rented Journey and love it. More to come when I know something!

  16. My clunking is getting worse. I feel it on up shifts. I feel it on down shifts.. When trying to stay at 60 Kph it jiggles like it can't decide what gear to use.

The other day I was pulling out into traffic and gave it some gas to get up to speed and it jumped around like a jack rabbit until i let off and then back on.

I am sick of this vehicle. It depresses me to think that I have 3.5 years left on my lease. What a mistake.

Hello all, Just wanted to give an update on what is going on with the Journey. The person I met online from Chrysler turned out to be the real deal. He made arrangements with the dealer I bought the car from to have an engineer meet me there to look at my concerned. They also provided me with a loaner car (minus the optional ins.) which turned out to be a Journey.

Anyway, we went of a test ride and as expected the transmission didn't act up. When it did do something it was so minor that the engineer said "thats normal" Here's the funny part. After driving the loaner Journey I find that the quick "rough" shifting in my car is much worse than the loaner. Also, when cruising it does not go into and out of gears. It is so smooth that I again love the Journey. Of course this will end when I get mine back because I am sure that since the engineer said it's "normal" the dealer will run tons of tests on it, but not do to much.

Also, the loaner has not "clunked" when put in reverse or drive like mine does occasionally. It did not do it once the engineer was with me, but it did do it when I left my house. I knew I wasn't crazy because I had my daughter with me and she backed it up.

The other problems like the "thud" when brakes applied was heard. The left turn "grind" will be taken care of as well. Again, I remained VERY concerned with the trans problem, but it's nice to know that I am not hearing/feeling these things. Getting the Journey as a loaner was the luck of God, because again I know mine should not be doing what it is doing.

I will keep everyone posted on this when I know more. I will also speak with this guy so that he can assist everyone to the best of his ability.

    Have a great day... :yup:

  17. I (MJM48) took two vacation days and visited relatives over the Thanksgiving holiday.

My last forum posts / messages were 11/25 and even that was tough because the forum was not responding most of the day.

MJM48 I apologize for my last post, I attempted to send you about 6 messages that day and I thought something may have been wrong because it didn't appear to send. Once again please accept my apology. Also, I received the message and will return it asap. Thanks, Ken

  18. I hear ya... on Friday I am driving from Toronto to Erie,PA for a family weekend away.. I actually am not looking forward to 5 hours of driving my Journey.

It really frustrates me....It will be shuttering at highway speeds and shifting like crap when the tranny warms up.

hey all, I think I may have someone on the inside who wants to help us with our journey issues. If he turns out to be the real deal then I will ask him to help us all. He seems like the real deal...

  19. Pulled the car into the driveway yesterday and noticed the low air pressure light was on in the dash cluster. It was getting dark so I did a quick check to see if the tires were up. They appeared to be fine. Today I started up the car and the light came on again. Checked the tire pressure and all the tires were at 31 psi. Factory sticker calls for 34 psi. So I inflated the tires to 34 psi and the light is off. I just thought I would throw this info up. The low tire pressure seems to be pretty sensitive.

Some people told me not to listen or trust that light, but yesterday mine came on and when I checked the pressure it was down 3psi. AWESOME TOOL !!

  20. 5 or 7 passenger ? I think it comes with the tonneau cover (only with 5 pass). Found mine in a plastic bag under the cargo lid cowering in the corner.

I have a 5 passanger and mine came with it. I don't use mine because although the bottom hooks on nicely the top has a somewhat poor design. The loops will come off and it's almost impossible to get them to stay on. Be careful with what you load in it. :car:
