  1. For the record since these lights are from China, the light direction should be the same as North America since they drive on the right side as well. Many of the Dodge Journeys here are fitted with these custom headlights so I suspect there's no problems fitting them on a North American Journey.

  2. From the top of my head, this may work:

If your S3 supports screen casting, you can [edit: mirror] your screen to an HDMI output using the Chromecast. If not, the newer android phones will support this feature.

Your Journey has to have the Lockpick which allows you to enable external video input. Plug the Chromecast into the Lockpick using some sort of HDMI to RCA adapter.

But I don't know how well the resolution will translate between the two devices.

And another problem is you can't control the touch input through the uConnect screen.

  3. Well, all other players I tried show the duration correctly.

Edit: and the fact that even in your Mercedes/BMW/etc. this feature doesn't work correctly doesn't mean that the uconnect is right, it only means that they probably contracted the player to the same (or similar) lousy supplier.

Same, it's quite odd because it can show the proper duration on my computer/home stereo/iPod/phone.

But I've solved the problem on the uconnect and other car systems by ripping songs using iTunes.

I've been using WMP to rip songs and I think that's what have been giving me problems.

  4. Update done. They also flashed the hands-free and the abs modules.

It's too early to say if it solved the problem of the radio not starting, the clock going too fast or the mp3 skipping, but at first sight everything else hasn't improved:

    • When playing an mp3 from the CD it doesn't show the artist name (this feature was broken with the first update, it worked when the car was new).
    • Some mp3s display a bogus duration (either too long or too short, the duration shown changes randomly when switching sources).
    • Only the first 3-4 character of station names are shown.

    I'm not impressed.

I can tell you that the mp3 duration problem isn't your stereo's fault. It should be your mp3 file itself. I've had the same problems on certain songs on a Mercedes, BMW, and smart car stereo display. The problem is usually solved if you rip songs off your CD using iTunes instead of other programs.

  5. think i would have waited another year or two before updating unless you do a lot of driving and using it for your job as wouldnt think that many new roads or other things that would need updating this soon after buying you 2011, i have been using my portable garmin for about 3yrs now and havent had any problems with roads and or finding my places that i have wanted to vist.. good luck on your update

True, you don't always need the newest maps to navigate around town. But for my portable Garmin GPS, even if I plan on updating every two years, I still gotta pay for the map updates within those two years. So say I have maps from 2010 summer, and I wanna update my maps to 2012 summer, I gotta pay for 2010 winter, 2011 spring summer fall winter, and 2012 spring. I hope that wasn't too confusing. But yeah, it still costs the same to update my portable GPS, not sure about the integrated one.

  6. So why don't you move on to something else? All you do is complain about it. Lots of other choices out there.

I agree, I've seen many of your posts around the forum and most of them are complaints. I recall reading that it's a company car for you so you might not be able to get rid of it. It's a company car, I assume it didn't cost you much, if not nothing. Since you got the car practically for free, I think you should learn to appreciate the good sides of the car. Not every car is perfect, there will be problems and you've got to learn to live with it. If you go buy a Royce, it's gonna cost you half a house, but there'll always be something that doesn't suit you because it's not designed specifically for you. I love my Dodge Journey, sure there are problems, but I consider them minor as long as the car can transport me to places.

Back on topic (kind of), I turned off the "headlights on when wipers on" because I find it quite annoying. I've been told that bulbs is most easily burnt out when it turns on/off. I live in Vancouver, there're lots of rain and I use the wipers almost everyday. I also have rain-x on my windshield so I don't tend to leave the wipers on for a long time. I'm just not comfortable with the lights going on and off.

  7. Cool, I think I'm going to go with the DDM Tuning LED's. Those seem to be the brightest LED replacements out there. I mainly need super bright because of the dark tint in the back, I want to be able to see as good as possible.

I'm also ordering 1x 194 LED bulb (for the glove box light), 2x 168 LED bulbs (for the license plate lights), and 2x 578 Festoon LED bulbs (for the rear hatch lights). Call me picky, but I want all of my interior lights to be LED and match the original LED lights in the interior. It's kind of lame Dodge didn't match them all to begin with.

Later in the future I'll do HID's for the high/low beams, as well as some LED fog lamps probably.

You're not picky, I think the same too. It's kind of weird to have normal yellowish bulbs in some places, and bright white LEDs at other places.

Please let me know if your DDM CX21 bulls fit in your journey, I'd love to replace mine too!

  8. Hey Windracer, bigtsr,

Thanks for the opinions! My Journey is at around 9000km, which is close to it's break-in, if it isn't already broke-in, and it's mileage has been just so-so. 310km is just my worst case, I usually get around 350km - 420km per tank(city only). I agree with both of you that driving in Vancouver means lots of idling and stop-and-go, I mean there are TONS of traffic light and stop signs here.

I'm sure my driving habits aren't that bad because when I drive my mom's mercedes GLK (3.5L V6), I get over 550km from a 66L tank. I know it isn't the fairest comparison since Mercedes is a premium brand (better at using fuel more efficiently?), but I'm just making a reference.

I certainly hope it'll get better as I drive it more.

    Ricky

  9. "As for the radio, it doesn't even show me the radio station name in the 4.3" screen."

Mine shows all the station names but I have to touch the "INFO" button on screen.

Yeah, that's what I meant. If I want to see the RDS display, I have to press info to see.

It would be more convenient if the normal radio stations were displayed like the satellite radio.

(smaller fonts displaying radio station + song artist/name

  10. I just ordered a cheap 5" gps unit with av-in from China, I think it will take around a month to arrive.

It should fit nicely below the 4.3" screen and, if it works right, I can add a backup camera to it later.

The unit cost me $59 (it was $64 but I found a $5 coupon code), a wireless backup camera costs around $30-40.

Less than $100 (and with more functionality) is a lot less than $1800.

Not as nicely integrated but who cares?

Besides, I prefer 2 (or more) screens instead of multiplexing everything on the same screen.

Sounds great!! Please take some pictures when you've installed the unit!

  11. I have similar problems with my 11 Journey.

I agree with the cruise controls, I've only used them for about 5 times, just to test it out. As you said, the buttons don't react quickly. I personally don't like using cruise control at any time because I don't feel connected with the road. And I always think that the car computer cannot decide for the road's conditions.

I don't have any problems with the A/C.

Automatic headlights do take a few seconds to change. The sensor doesn't constantly measure the ambient lighting, otherwise it would be using too much power/energy? Like the journey, it also takes a Mercedes and a BMW a few seconds to update the headings as well.

As for the radio, it doesn't even show me the radio station name in the 4.3" screen.

For MP3's, my system sometimes stops for a fraction of a second between songs, I don't think that's a problem as long as it's not pausing in the middle of the song.

For the Unknown artists display, that's weird. I wonder if my car does that too.

I have the same problem with some songs displaying long duration times. About a quarter of the songs on my thumbdrive does this. But this happens with my parents' Mercedes and BMW too. I think there's something to do with the MP3 file, but I haven't looked into fixing the issue.

I don't have any problems with the search by ____, all songs/artists/albums show up under the search list.

I don't use the speed display on the EVIC, so I don't know if it does the same thing with my Journey.

I would keep the dimmer dial at one level before max (Max = when all lights are at 100% brightness and interior LEDs are on), then even when the headlights turn on, the UConnect screen would stay at max brightness. I don't think the display brightness will ever depend on the sensor on the mirror because everyone's eyes have a different sensitivity to light. And like you said, if it relies on the sensor, if the system thinks that there isn't enough light outside, the system would turn the headlights on and dim all the display to keep your eyes comfortable. Like you said again, the system turns on the headlights when theres still plenty of ambient light; in this case, if the uconnect display dims, you wouldn't be able to see it. (I hope that made sense to you)

I'm just sharing my thoughts (:

    Apology for the poor english.

  12. Hey everyone, I have a 2011 DJ that's equipped with the 4.3 UConnect. It has no backup camera and I would like to add one, hopefully using the original 4.3 screen. I've searched the forum quite a bit, it seems that I need to buy this thing called the lockpick. And it looks like that the lockpick adds the functionality to view the backup camera even though I'm not in reverse. Well I don't need that feature, is there a way to just add it to the car without buying the expensive lockpick?

    Thanks!!

  13. Unfortunately my SE doesn't have the BT option (in spite of promises made at the time of purchase), so I don't know if the feature supports A2DP (Stereo) connectivity at all. I will say that a BT connection will not allow you to use the radio's controls to deal with the iPod nor will it display song titles and such under a wireless connection.

But I have been waiting to hear from someone who has a 4.3 and uses a thumb drive for his music so I could compare operation to mine.

    So if you don't mind, I have a couple of questions for you Ricky . . . . .

What size is your thumb drive?

How much music do you have on your thumb drive? How many songs? How much data?

How is it organised? (all in the root directory? Alphabetically folders? Some fixed number of songs per folder?)

Does the radio recognise more than 255 songs from your drive?

Are your radio and air conditioning controls sluggish when you are playing USB music?

Hey bramfrank, in my DJ, I can use the radio controls' (touchscreen and steering wheel buttons) to control my iPod when it's connected thru bluetooth.

To answer your question, my thumb drive is 4gb with roughly 170 songs. Since I only have that many songs, I don't run into the problem of not recognizing 256+ songs, where I've seen many people post about. Are the controls sluggish? Not at all, not even bluetooth. For A/C, the system responds to my input (touchscreen/hard buttons) within milliseconds. Same goes for music controls; except bluetooth music, it takes about half a second when I try to change song and stuff, which isn't a big problem for me.

I noticed this when I test drove a 2011 DJ with 8.4" screen, which disappointed me. But I tried it when I got my 2012 with 8.4, and it doesn't have this problem. I'm not sure if it was a TSB update that fixed the issue or if it's a change in functionality from the 2011 to 2012. I'm also not sure if the same applies to the 4.3 screen.

I guess the 2011 4.3's have this problem. I do hope its just a software issue, maybe when I bring it in to service next time, they'll update the firmware or something. Thanks and glad to hear that it works for you.

My 2011 8.4 does this fine. The source soft key will allow me to toggle between sources. If I switch between BT and iPod it will even automatically pause my BT device. Of course, the iPod simply resumes at the beginning of the previous song played (as it always does). I am not sure if any differences in functionality exist between the 4.3 and 8.4. I would assume that a basic one such as source toggle would not differ. Maybe an update at the dealer will fix this for you?

    Peace.

So you're saying that your 2011 8.4" can connect to a bluetooth music source while having something plugged into your USB? If so, then it sounds like that my DJ has a software issue and can be easily fixed thru an update or something. thanks!

  14. I'm not sure if any of you have noticed, but on the 4.3 Uconnect system, I can't connect to a bluetooth music source when there's something plugged in to the USB (usb thumb drive). I want to do this because I put my music onto the thumb drive, and my sister wants to listen to her iPod's music when she's driving. I know that her iPod can simply connect by unplugging the thumb drive, but is there a way so you don't have to unplug and replug it in every time? Thanks!

  15. Wow they let you take the car home? I don't think that'll ever happen with the Dodge's here in BC.

A few years back when my Dad was buying a mercedes, that dealership did let us drive it back home (~40km) to check whether our driveway would scratch the bumper/bottom of the car.

I guess Americans work by a different set of instructions or something. But they were really nice to us, I think they were just really strict with the rules.

Yeah I hope we won't had to deal with that dealership ever again, other than those costly maintenance and stuff.

  16. You agreed to purchase a car and signed all the paperwork before even seeing the car? And didn't push the issue when the dealer refused to let you test drive the car you were buying? I assume you won't be making that mistake again.

Well that was my Dad's choice because he thought the dealership would be honest with us, and also because if we didn't buy it that day we would lose all our deals. Well this has never happened to us before, I'm sure my dad has learnt the lesson. But we're quite happy with what we got though, because the dealership gave us a 5.0" GPS, roof cross bars, free doc fees etc, and employee pricing. Great car nonetheless~

  17. Well some dealerships and salesperson are just not honest. My dad and I went to the dealership on Nov 1, we were asking the salesperson about the upgrades etc, e.g. standard 8.4 on all R/Ts, he said yes. Leather seats on all R/Ts, yes as well. He told us about a R/T that pretty much fitted what we wanted, and we decided to buy that one. It was a 2011 model, and they wanted to clear the lot, so we HAD to pick it up the next day, otherwise we won't get all the discounts that he's giving us. The next day, when my dad was doing the payments, we found out that you had to pay extra for the leather seats, even though they're 'standard' on al R/Ts. And when we drove the car away after all the payments were done, we then found out it came with a 4.3. We couldn't do anything about it then because all the payments were done. We also didn't get a chance to test drive the car before paying because they said the car didn't belong to us yet. Nonetheless, we accepted what we're ended up with because of all the deals and extras the dealership gave us. Hope that was not too confusing, I couldn't really word the story in english. But again, some dealerships just keep giving you bullcrap.
