  1. On my way into work this morning my 2011 Journey had the check engine light come on. We pulled off the highway, stopped for 10mins and started it back up again, light is still on. Going into my dealership tonight to have it looked at. I was just there on the weekend for an Oil change..

  2. A few more weeks and I will have had my 2011 Journey for one year, thought I'd write a little post to say how things have been so far!

In one year, my wife and I have put 33,000km on our Journey (glad we took the extended warranty up to 100,000km lol). This includes 1 round trip from Toronto to Boston, and one round trip from Toronto to Myrtle Beach, other than that, it’s our daily drive to work.

I've had the tires rotated 4 times in the year (4th time will happen this weekend on my next oil change). I've also found that the tires that came with our Journey (the 19' ones) suck in the snow, and next winter I will be looking for winter tires and rims for sure!

I've had to top up the Nitrogen in the tires once when all 4 wheel sensors came on at the same time.

Gas mileage is pretty good, normally showing around 11.5/100 though the amount of stop and go traffic really kills it (we have the crew with the V6).

Shortly after we got our Journey last year, we had major problems with the ABS system. It turned out the control unit had shorted out due to no seals around the module, but this took 3 trips into the dealer before they finally found the problem, since then, no issues with ABS.

We had problems with our brakes from the day we bought it, all the way into the fall last year, with the brakes making a really loud noise when stopping, and tons of brake dust on the rims. The dealer finally replaced the brake pads under warranty which fixed the issue, but that took 5 different trips to the dealer to get that fixed up.

All in all, I can say we both really love our Journey; there are still a few issues that still bug me to this day. The first is the Speedo defaulting to MPH even though they have flashed the unit 3 times now to fix it. Also the voice controls with Uconnect for audio playback still doesn't work (like play artist). My IPOD still has issues when plugged in, taking up to 20mins before the shuffle options are useable, and CD art is hit and miss. Another ongoing issue which I am going to have looked at is that we can't fill up the Journey to full at all, most of the time it cuts off at the 3/4 mark thinking its full, but I can put another 15L of gas in most times.

  3. I have the exact same issue. At most gas stations, I can never get the gas gauge needle to go to the F when I fill up. I was actually at a different gas station yesterday to fill up. After the pump initially stopped, I was able to put another 10 litres of gas in! This pump actually allowed the gas to come out very very slowly. When I checked the fuel level, it went past the F. This is only the second or third time I've been able to do this since I got my Journey.

At my normal gas station, when I fill up and try to take my time to fill it up as much as possible, the gas gauge needle never makes it to the F. This is a little frustrating to me, since it means I usually never come close to filling the tank and it means I have to fill up more frequently because of that.

On any previous vehicle that I have had, I've never had this issue when filling up. I'm guessing this issue is caused by the design of the fuel filler tube and maybe it was intentional?

Same as you 100%. My normal gas station is an Ultramar (cause its like 5 cents cheaper lol) it always kicks off before the F line and when i normally slow fill it, i too can add in about another 10L in as well. The only station that seems to actually fill it up is my local Shell which is the most expensive in my area. If i take my 04 honda to the same Ultramar, it fills up right to F then turns off like it should.

  4. Here's an odd issue. I have a 2011 DJ Crew, and every single time i go to fill up, i can never get the tank filled up fully. It always cuts off when it thinks its full, but when i start up the journey, its never on the full line. I've found that when it stops filling, if i pull the nozzle out a little and continue to fill up slowly, it actually takes a lot mroe gas into the tank. Anyone else have this issue?

And to make it even funnier, this morning I filled up and the pump didn't shut off at all, i think a few $$$ worth of gas ended up on the ground lol.

  5. It will tell you when to get it done the first one will pop up at around 5800km which is when mine did and i am pretty sure there were a few others at the same mileage. I am at 11500 now and it hasnt told me to get it done again and i have no idea if it will wait till 13000 km is up or do it before. And 13000 would be in perfect driving conditions on paved roads, ect. So i doubt it would got that long anyways.

I was past 8000km and mine never went off, I went in anyways, no way I'd wait 13k to do one. Just hit 27k going in for I think my 3rd oil change since I got my DJ back in March.

  6. Started up the Journey this morning to leave for work, and the EVIC system lite up like a christmas tree warning for low KPA, the two left side tires were at 209, the two right side tires were at 199 and were yellow with the warning. After driving for a bit, 3 of the 4 tires were up to 227 but the back right was at 220 and the two right sides were still both yellow. Could this be a sensor problem or acutally low pressure?

  7. There was another topic going about this very same proublem. I have a 2011 Crew and had the issue with my breaks as well. i had it in 3 times and the dealer kept saying nothing was wrong, but the noise would keep getting louder. Finally took it in a 4th time, this time the dealer replaced all the break pads under warranty saying that the pads were too hard??? No clue about that as I am not much of a car guy. Anyways, all was good for a few months but now the noise is coming back yet again. We have 17k on the Journey already. I cleaned my rims a few months back to make them shine like new. 3 of the rims are still pretty clean, the 4th one is very black, so I am guessing that something is wrong yet again with the breaking system.

  8. You need a sensor for each rim-if you choose not to the light will stay on your dash as long as the ignition is on

It also adds a fair bit to the cost of your new tires/rims, i think its like $130ish dollers per tire extra to have senors put onto them...

  9. I did go with the extended warrany from the dealer. It was about $2200.00 which extended by 3yr 60 000 km bumper to bumper warranty to 5 yrs/100 000 bumper to bumper (GOLD PACKAGE). It also includes all oil changes and tire rotations for the 5 yrs AND if the car is in for service of any kind they will supply me with a car at no cost to me. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, I'd suggest going with the extended warranty. For me with my R/T being fully loadedmy thought was if something goes after the inital warranty is done, any parts will likely be pretty expensive such as the touch screen, AWD etc.

For replacemnet insurance, my insurance company (TD) included full replacemnet cost of the current model year for the first 3 yrs at N/C. After that there will be a charge for it. If I recall correctly it would be approx $300.00 to keep that option after the 3 yrs at N/C.

Just my two cents, but I am very comfortable feeling fully covered for the ownership of my vehical. After a 100 000 km I trade them in anyways.

We took the extended warranty on our Crew as well. In the long run, the extra $$$ will be well worth it seeing as how many issue's i had with the breaks already lol. I didn't get any sweet deal that includes the oil change and tire work though, i wish they had offered me that lol.

  10. drozz - By the time you factor in shipping and duty costs, you won't save any money over buying the rims locally.

I used Simply Tire for winter tires for both my cars and they were great. www.simplytire.com

So any of these will work?

  11. Hi,

I have a 2011 Journey R/T AWD. I just passed the 6000 km mark on the odometer and the EVIC says that I need to perform an oil change??? Is that normal?

I thought the oil changes should be done at only 13000km :rant2:

That's odd, i was at like 9600km and never got a notice but i still when in just after that. Now almost near 16k no notice still yet.

  12. After going in for the 3rd time to have this issue looked at, my dealer put all new pads on under warranty, so far, so good (knock on wood). real test will come tomorrow when we drive the Journey into work, the problem happens a lot in stop and go traffic.... Will update later.

Just a follow up to this. Since they put new break pads on, not a noise at all! I got the paper work from the dealer via mail as they didn't have it at the time i went to pickup the journey. They wrote in as normal, couldn't recreate the problem, but they guess that the old break pads were to hard which was causing the problem???? Does that even make sense?

  13. Mmm no issues with mine, used it this morning that way, told it to go to boneyard and it did correctly. I do have the new updated for the uconect installed, but even before i am pretty sure it was working correctly. i remember the day they changed the chanel numbers when i turned on the journey it took some time to do an update for the sat radio and then everything started to work.
