  1. Looking at a 2014 with 'Leather" seats and I noticed in 1 of the pictures the passenger seat looks, I don't know how to describe it "covered in lines"  is this normal or would it be considered damage ?

    Thanks

  2. So what I am getting here is to some extent the dealer looks at the vehicle and asks "if I certify this vehicle can I increase the asking price enough that I get extra profit"  or in other words "if I certify this vehicle will I get my money back or how will it effect my bottom line". Its a cost of required repairs to meet certification versus asking price of the vehicle.  So from my perspective the question remains "whats wrong with it the dealer is unwilling to certify it".  Not that I am looking for a reason for the dealer to put the price up ;)

  3. This question could apply to any vehicle but in this case the DJ, I am currently looking at 6 or 8 different DJ's  and deciding on what I am willing to compromise on options and on watching where the price will go, some are certified and some are not. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why one would be certified and another is not.  What criteria do dealerships use to list one vehicle as certified and another not ? From where I set If it is not it bodes the question "So whats wrong with it?"  For example there is one I am looking at that is not certified it is as new or newer and has similar or less mileage and similar carproofs then others that are certified it makes no sense........

Be careful with that;  The warranty starts with the 'in service' date, which may differ from that of the first registration.  My nephew just learned the hard way, when he had an expensive failure on his DJ, which was purchased used which he was expecting to be covered by the warranty, but it seems that the in-service date was 6 months earlier than the date of the first sale to the original owner.

To know for certain, contact FCA and ask.

Thank you, I sent an email to FCA to ask the "in service date" we will see what they say if anything

The warranty starts on the day it was sold. Also it isn't unusual for vehicles to be serviced before being sold. This could happen due to recalls and inspections are recorded as "being serviced". If it was sold as new than more than likely that is the case, and I don't see any trips back to the dealership afterwards to be serviced.

Good to know, thank you, It kind of sent up a red flag, not that there was pre sales service but the number I don't recall seeing that many on a car proof before pre sale. I didn't include the after sales ones because they looked normal, yearly MVI, oil change etc.

    Thanks

Ah okay... Still I think since mechanically they are very similar the SXT with only 50k miles would be a better choice. Just be careful and make sure the vehicle wasn't used as a rental/fleet vehicle. Some people have good luck with them but I know I personally am not the most delicate rental driver. Also have it looked over by an independent mechanic just to be safe.

No worries, the car proof doesn't show any auction sells or previous rentals/fleet ownership, also no accidents, although I usually take car proof/carfax with a grain of salt, better then nothing but things do get missed,  also for clarity its 50k kilometers (I'm in Canada) so about 31k miles.

  7. Thank you everyone, you guys have a wealth of information and advice I value.

This is from the car proof from one of the vehicles what strikes me is the number of times the vehicle was serviced before it was ever sold,  Is this unusual, or is this indicating a classic "Lemon" a Monday morning or Friday afternoon build ?

Another question on this does the warranty start on the 1st date April 27 or when it was 1st sold October 2nd

    Thanks

There isn't anything other than styling that would make the Crossroad a better buy. I would be more worried about doing business with a dealer that charges more for a vehicle with 90k miles than one with 50k.

I am sorry I should have been more clear, these vehicles are at 2 different dealers in 2 different provinces, not to say that over time I have become quite tainted over the "honesty" of used car salespersons.

    Thanks

  9. Not sure if this is the right spot if it needs to be moved please do so.

I am looking at two different DJ's both 2015's one is an SXT the other a Crossroad, I can only see 2 main differences the SXT comes with 17" wheels & does not have the

heated seats/steering wheel it been upgraded with the touring suspension,  the 8.4 touch screen   They both have the same engine, transmission 7 passenger seating etc.

My question is, am I missing some fundamental difference between the SXT and Crossroad that would make the Crossroad a better buy?  To complicate it a little more the SXT has some options the Crossroad does not have including, remote start, GPS & rear Video. Also the SXT has about 50k on it the Crossroad 90k the SXT has about 6 months on the new car warranty and about 2.5 years on the power train, the Crossroad has no new car warranty and only 10k left on the PT, the Crossroad is $2k more asking.........

To me the SXT looks like a better deal and has most of the same "stuff" plus extras but I am concerned as I said above that I am missing some fundamental difference that makes the Crossroad better?

    Opinions?

    Thanks

  10. I have bought from China before, likely ebay, not I think from this source and your right one of the big drawbacks is time to get your stuff. I remember the last thing I ordered was taking so long I didn't think it was ever going to arrive. I notice on this ad it says 36 to 58 days so 1 to 2 months.......  Above someone mentioned about the screws to attach the brackets, now correct me if I am wrong,   but my understanding is the 5 passenger (2 rows of seats) has the attachment points for the cover built in where the 7 passenger (3 rows of seats) does not and the cover is not an option when you buy it,  so I wonder if the 7 passenger version is some sort of compression fitting  .......

  11. Has anyone tried the Cargo Cover from AliExpress ?

Not sure about 2014 but for 2018 (build & price) there a $100 option don't mind the $100 but to buy afterwards they want CDN $400+ quite a markup

so I am curious if anyone has bought one from these guys looks like about $140 delivered, not sure if I would get dinged for duty or tax.

    Thanks

The Journey (any year and all models) can take 17" and larger wheels.  Older Journeys (the ones with the smaller brakes) can also take 16" wheels.

The tire size is obviously impacted, because for any wheel size, the width and circumference of the tires needs to conform to what the vehicle can handle.

So, like many among us I have 17" steel wheels with my 225/65/17 snow tires mounted on them and the original 19" wheels with (in my case) a set of 225/55/19 Bridgestone ECOPIA H/L 422 PLUS installed.

Those sizes are what FCA delivers with the vehicles.

They diameter of the tires is close enough that there is minimal impact on speedometer and odometer accuracy.  Ride height is pretty much the same, too.

Thank you, perfect answer, puts this one to rest

  13. I read through some messages but I am still a bit unclear on swapping tires/rims the 2014 crossroad I am looking at comes with 225/55/R19's it seems to be really difficult to find steel rims in this size, I do see listed 225/65/R17's used with winter tires mounted are these a swap or they just won't fit or would be unsafe, if the do fit and are safe what would be the difference, I would guess the Crossroad would sit a little lower to the ground.

  14. Thanks for the reply, my inclination is it comes standard, the fellow like you may have taken it out and forgot about it because its not in the vehicle,  unfortunately the dealer will never tell me the name of the person who traded it in...... there a bit pricey from mopar here in Canada about $500 tax in although you can get them on ebay or Amazon for a lot less.  He may have done a Bill on it, I remember on a different brand I took it out to load the back and forgot it was on the roof  and drove away,  never did find it :)

    Thanks

  15. Not sure if this is the right place to post this,

Looking at a 2014 Journey crossroad 2 rows of seats not the 7 person one,  does this vehicle come standard with the retractable cargo cover ?

it has the "customer preferred package 28v"  not sure exactly what this includes.

    Thanks
