    Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

If the vehicle is equipped with ESP, once the battery is reconnected, the SteeringAngle Sensor (SAS) needs to be calibrated. The SAS requires calibration anytime the battery or an ABS (ESP) component has been disconnected for any length of time. To calibrate, perform the following:

    1) Start the engine
    2) Center the steering wheel
    3) Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left until the internal stop in the steering gear is met, then turn the wheel all the way to the right until the opposite internal stop in the steering gear is met.
    4) Center the steering wheel
    5) Stop the engine.

Google "dodge charger ESP/BAS Light" A bunch of stuff out there -- apparently this is a know issue... with possible causes too numerous to mention.

Thanks for the info! I took it into the dealer yesterday morning as it was due for an oil change anyway. They mentioned I had an outstanding recall on it which had something to do with "steering wheel wiring". Unfortunately, it sounded unrelated to my issue but might actually be connected based on what you said! Thanks again.

  2. Hello, I drive a 2014 AWD SXT. A few weeks ago my ESP light came on and stayed on while driving, after I turned the car off then back on, it stayed off for a while. No issue until yesterday when it started coming back on again but it seems to cycle about every 2 or 3 starts. I can't tell any difference in the car itself. I'm thinking something simple. No check engine, abs or service lights. Just the ESP light. Parts store couldn't read a code. It's due for an oil change so I'm taking it to the dealer this week but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and what might I expect from the dealer. Thanks
