  1. One more reason to consider the AWD: If you tow a boat, and launch it on a slippery ramp, the FWD will work against you: On a ramp, the weight is shifted off the drive wheels a bit, and with the tongue weight of a 3200 lbs boat behind the rear axle, the front wheels are unloaded even more. A good question for you FWD owners, and AWD owners that have pulled boats and launched/pulled out: how was your traction? Does the AWD on the Journey have a manual 4WD lock mode like the Jeep Patriot?
  2. Hi there folks, I'm looking to replace my 2003 Grand Caravan Sport (loaded - DVD, trailering, etc). I've taken the newer Dodge Caravans out but they are noisier at idle and on the highway, and their interiors are totally decontented compared to my 2003. One vehicle I really liked was the Dodge Journey.. I am also seriously considering a Chevy Traverse. I almost bought a Journey last year, but, after reading the forums, I didnt make the purchase, since it seemed to be shaking down several design issues, and got poor city gas mileage... I ended up spending repair money instead. At 220,000kms on the Caravan, it's time to look again. I'm hoping the leaks / reliability issues / fuel economy on the 2010 Journey got better. I looked at a related forum posting here (Forum Link) and am looking for your advice, based on our needs. Requirements - Critical: 1) Can tow 3200 lbs 2) Can carry 6+ people 3) Can carry 4 people + a decent amount of cargo (say, two coolers and 4 medium sized suitcases). 4) Decent snow performance 5) Excellent full-back area cargo space with just two passengers Requirements: Nice to have's, if not conflicting 4) 500km+ range 5) AWD 6) REAL Fuel economy: city: 14l/100kms or better ; Hwy: 11l/100km or better on 120km/h trips (mild conditions) 7) Seats that fold fown for cargo hauling that don't need removal from the vehicle. Any suggestions/comments/alternatives? Would you buy your Journey again, after your experiences?
  3. Hey there, I'm considering a Dodge Journey, and I'd love to hear from those of you who launch boats regularly. What's the approximate weight of your boat (or just length/description if you don't know)? Do you have a FWD or AWD Journey? Any trouble on the boat launch ramps? Traction issues with FWD's and big boats? AWD not xferring torque appropriately to the rear when slippery? I'm trying to decide if the Journey or Traverse is my next vehicle: I need to launch/pullout a ~3200 lbs boat with trailer brakes (hydraulic, surge-activated) on a wet, grassy ramp. Interesting info: my 2.4l 4 cyl Jeep Patriot FD1 CVT can pull this boat out when locked in 50/50 4WD... It's a slow pull, and the vehicle is only rated for 2000 lbs.... But my Grand Caravan FWD doesn't have the traction.
