  1. 2009 Journey SE Plus, Inferno Red, Safe & Sound, Exterior Appearance Package, Remote Start, Sirius..

About a week ago, I noticed that whenever I released the parking brake and tried pulling away I sensed some resistance followed with two very loud bangs in quick succession, then the vehicle would start moving.

Took it to my dealer the next day and, lo and behold, there an advisory of some sort from Chrysler that a batch of rear calipers were bad and needed to be replaced under warranty. So now I've got to wait 7 business days for the replacement calipers to be shipped from the US.

Something to keep in mind folks...

    Cheers!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, I used my parking brake for the first time this season (parked on a steep incline). Drove 20 kilometers home and the rear right wheel was blazing hot and stunk of the sweetest smell of burnt brake. I shall be calling my friendly dealer tomorrow (40 kilometers away) to find out what I should do.

Obviously it's undrivable in this condition. I may pull the wheel off myself, fix it well enough to get it to the shop.

    Thanks for the info.

  2. It actually had some smoke coming out from underneath, the fluid burning off, and of course that is when the smell was the worst. Like I said the seal resolved everything and as soon as I get the info on the part, I will post it. I am still happy with the Journey!!

Same thing happened to my SE, it was leaving a puddle everywhere it went, I took it to the dealer and they fixed in an hour. While they were doing the work I stepped outside for a smoke and I was able to see the Journey up on the hoist with the right driveshaft removed. I didn't get a chance to talk to the mechanic but I can assume that it was probably a diff seal. Seems like Dodge may have to find a new seal manufacturer. The original ones apparently stink.

  3. I think i got the same thing going on keep us in the loop just happende to me today wondering WHAT THE

Well, I was too lazy to get the car up on the ramps, so no pics. On the other hand I only had to spend an hour at the dealer to get the problem fixed.

When the service manager gave me the key back he told me there was a seal blown out and thats all he could tell me about it.

I stepped out for a smoke and look in the open bay door and could see the mechanic with the drive shaft removed so I could only assume that it was a trans seal or a diff seal.

Thank god for warranty, it was not a problem anyways. Wasn't that big of a deal.

  4. Our Journey SE is leaving oil puddles. We only found out today when my father in law called and told me that it had left oil on his pristine driveway. Our driveway is dirt and it's been raining lately so I never noticed. When the wife returned home I took a peak underneath and saw oil droplets on the cross member. The engine oil was down a quart as well. Since the dealer is closed tomorrow, I'm going to put it up on the ramps (which annoys me a little, I bought my first new car so I wouldn't have to deal with issues like this) just to take a peek and see if it's a serious problem. Then it's going to the dealer on the asap.

I will keep you posted and will try and post pics of the problem.

  5. I checked out the octane readings of our gas here: 87, 89, 91. I guess regular gas would be ok for the 3.5. I have been keeping track of my mileage on my 2000 Caravan I am driving now and the best I can get is 21.6 on a Canadian gallon. That would be about 18 on a US gallon. That isn't very good mileage as most of that is highway mileage. Dodge claims I can get 36 mpg (Canadian gallon) on a 2.4 Journey FWD.

Our SE has enough power to get it around. However we are somewhat disappointed with the fuel mileage. We can barely get 500 km out of a 60 liter fill up, and thats all country highway driving.

It did better when we went on a trip to Toronto and was on the 401/407 doing 120 km/h when we almost got 700 km out of the tank.

  6. I started looking over the maintenance schedule myself. One thing that is curious is that the spark plugs in the 2.4 L 4 Cyl engine need to be replaced every 30,000 miles while the 3.5 L V6 Engines only requires spark plugs being changed at 102,000 miles. So, by the time you need to replace the spark plugs on the SXT or RT Models, you will have had to change plugs 3 times already on the SE.

Heck, this required service (and added cost of this service) may end up making the difference in cost between the SE and SXT.

Except that you will eventually need to replace the timing belt on the V6. I would imaging that won't be a cheap maintenance requirement. Spark plugs are easy.

  7. Before you ask, I never wanted Sirius thats why I didn't get the sat package, besides I have four xm units.

The weatherstripping around the door looks pretty tight and I'm a little nervous about pulling it out to run the antenna wire underneath it. I also don't want to clutter up the interior with a bunch of wires hanging all over the place. The unit thats going in is a Roady xt.

    Any suggestions?

Edit: Ooops, I suppose I should have posted this in the audio section. Sorry.

  8. The real reason for an Engine cover is that it makes it more intimidating to work on your own car. The high end makers did this first. The car "looks" more advanced with the Engine cover, yet what really happens is that by looking more advanced, people assume that their dealer will know best how to repair it. Its mostly psychological.

Heck, you can't even replace the battery on the Journey on your own...they hide it in a wheel well.

The battery change out doesn't look that hard. There's a panel just in front of the left front wheel. I suppose you have to take the wheel off. If you are willing to change a battery then I would suspect that removing a wheel wouldn't be all that big of a deal.

  9. Gotchya... yeah my sales guy confirmed that yesterday.

Well I pulled the trigger and went with the SXT with the sunroof, pick it up next Saturday. I guess since I already made a lease payment for my Caliber this month I would have to get clearance from Chrysler Financial to make another lease payment on the same month, so instead of that hassle I was ok with picking it up a week from now, it will be a long week though lol. I think I got a great deal, the sunroof actually added about 400 to the price and I got that waived along with the admin fees and also told them I wanted to two front windows tinted.

    MSRP 32800 (including freight)

    Employee 29800 - (additional 450 taken off)

Monthly Lease - 437 taxes included with nothing down - 24000 a year kms

How long is your lease term?

  10. I'm so happy to find a forum on this car. We picked ours up on May 10. It's a SE Plus with flex seating and appearance package with a Silver Steel Metallic coat. It's a great handling and well priced vehicle.

    Love it, love it.
