  1. I also couldn't find a write up on transmission removal, and replacement. I wanted to know if there were any tips, or what to expect. Did one a few weeks ago on a dj. I'll be doing a write up for the forum. This is a very helpful forum, if used right. The more people that post info, the better.
  2. It was close to $700 I believe. With tax I'd say $700 is what to expect. I believe even the dealer bought pcm has to still be programmed. Which is another $100 to have it programed and put in, maybe an hour labor for install of pcm at dealer (mine didn't charge me probably cause it is an easy install). I wanted to be able to drive it on the trailer and into the shop. That is why I didn't bother changing it. And I also didn't want it locking up the security. At $75 for the pcm, $100 for programming, and $38 for the update, you really can't go wrong.
  3. You are very right, wierd things do happen to the DJ. I have a pretty heavy mechanical background, but the DJ has thrown a few diagnosis problems at me. Pretty easy to work on tho, as far as engine bay space and everything. I told the tech that did my programming at the my problems, and diagnosis. He said I was correct, he had seen it many times before. Just glad that it is fixed and running good. Ran a full system scan with my new genisys evo scan system, and everything is clear. Thanks!
  4. I purchased a pcm of the exact p/n. Took it to the dealer to be programmed. The skim system is programmed into the ignition, pcm, and bcm. So it would lock up if I would have tried to start it. I had already checked the grounds and harness. The ground for the o2 heater circuit is provided from the pcm. Also the low oil pressure light came on(which ran to the same connector on the pcm the heater circuit is on) If all wiring and grounds are good, that pretty much leaves the pcm. I took it yesterday and they programmed the computer to the car. And voila, cured my o2 heater circuit problem and low oil pressure light. It also had a recall for the key fobs, because the old ones fit loose and could shut off the ignition while driving. So I had the computer programmed to the car (dealer has four digit acess code for the skim module to program it to the pcm), 2 new fobs which were programmed(recall), and had the pcm reflashed because there was an update. Cost me $138 at the dealer because I brought my own pcm (which was $75) Just thought I'd put this on here for future reference if anyone should need it. I do recommend taking it to the dealership if the pcm ever needs replaced and you are using a used one, even one online has to be programmed to your system (which is my last option). Trying to start it with an unrecognized pcm can make it lock up. I suggest buying a used one (just my opinion) but I've heard of many people having problems with new ones failing. All the ones you buy new, are just refurbished units, but that's just my opinion. Thanks for the input everyone, hope this helps someone else. Keep in mind tho, all dealerships are not as kind. Some may refuse, or say they can't program a used pcm. I had a polite, seasoned technician. He had done this many times before, and was done with everything in around 2 hours. Thanks for the input, much appreciated!
  5. Yes had put in pcm, and reflashed. Recall on keys got fixed to. Runs great with no cel on now.
  6. My genysis evo came today . I have to be at the dealership before it will be charged. My old genysis was to outdated for this car, so I had to rely on my cheap scan tool.
  7. Ok, thanks for the input. My diagnosis is the computer. Oxygen sensor heaters are grounded and regulated through the pcm. All 4 will 0xygen sensor heater circuit high output codes come up. Won't go away when cleared, also the low oil pressure light which I've never had before (yes it's full). Which all run to the same connector on the pcm. Went thru wiring harness and all looked great. Dealer is programming my new ecu today. If thar doesn't work, I'll contact ultranuts Thank you for the help.
  8. No check egine, or oil light until then. I just wish I knew someone who could shed some light on the pcm, along the lines of programming and security. Info on these dj's is hard to come by
  9. I didn't have to before. I've had it running since. It was just start and stall. It got to the point where it would start right up and run fine, or it might just shut back off. I believe the whole starter thing was just a coincidence. I had a check engine light for all four of the o2 sensor heaters, output high. Also the oil light came on, which had never been on before. The o2 sensor heaters ground through the pcm. Check engine light will not shut off even after the codes are read. Immediately throws trouble codes again. I checked all the grounds, battery voltage is good, opened the harness up and all the wiring looks good. I'm suspecting a bad pcm, I'm putting one in and hauling to the dealership for reprogramming. I believe and was told by the dealership(who you can't always trust) that the skim security system is programmed into the pcm to, not just the body control module. I'm scared to try it and lock the security up.
  10. What were you thinking on the battery issue before hand? Shoot my bad I meant 2009. I never had to engage the pedal before. Thanks for the reply
  11. What year was the nitro? if you don't mind me asking. Was told it had to do with the skim security system and the newer CAN diagnostic system.
  12. Ok, was told by the dealer that the security system was programmed into this to. So I don't know if it would even work without taking it to the dealer for programming
  13. So I'm almost positive my ecm failed. All four o2 sensors are throwing codes for heater high output and the engine light will not shut off even when you try to clear the codes with a scan tool. It has been doing all kinds of funky things. What I'm wanting to know is, if I put an ecm out of another journey of the same style and year journey if it would work without taking it to a dealership to get it reprogrammed? This thing has been driving me insane someone please help.
  14. Figured out it will start right up and stay running if you keep the brake pedal engaged. As soon as you let off it surges and the engine stalls
  15. I pulled my 2008 journey 3.5 into the garage yesterday. The starter needed replaced, so I unhooked the battery and changed it. Hooked the battery back up, and it fired right up. It ran for about 10 seconds then the throttle started surging. No it will only run for a few seconds. I an getting p0032, p0038,p0052, and p0058 codes. A code for the heater circuit high on all 4 o2 sensors. Don't know why these would keep it from running. Checked all my connections, cleaned battery connection and grounds. Also tried running a new ground, with no luck. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
  16. Ok thanks for the info. I just ask because I haven't picked the car up yet to bring it to the shop. Didnt know if the frame cradle and power steering rack had to be removed to take out the transmission like some. Im sorry i should have been more clear with my question. Just wanted to know what to expect. But the miles it has a timing belt would be a good idea, thanks for the reminder Larryl.
  17. So I just bought a 2009 Dodge Journey with a bad transmission. It has the 3.5, and is FWD. I've changed alot of transmissions, but was looking for some pointers. Haven't really worked on any newer dodge vehicles. So a how to, and some pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!
