  1. Just curious if anyone else had received an upgrade CD for their MyGiG radio. I received one in the mail yesterday that is supposed to address an issue with possible hard drive corruption, which they say will basically brick the radio requiring replacement. We have the first Journey the dealer sold, so maybe newer ones already have the update?

    Mark

I downloaded the latest version a few weeks ago and created a CD from the ISO, http://mofv.com/mygig/ is where you can find mygig updates, I beleive the current is 9112. I would hope they can add feature enhancements with future releases... ie I'd love to see a small alphabet so you can quickly jump to the letter of whatever music you are searching for on the drive.

  2. I have the Nav and love it. It puts everything you need to see at a normal viewing height. With the Voice Command and wheel controlsyou never have to use the joystick that much and when watching the rearview camera or DVD movies when stopped its perfect. I am curious where the subwoofer is located I have the Infinty system but not sure where the sub is hiding!!

I beleive its mounted on the driver side rear quarter panel, next to the built in flashlight.

About your Nav, can you input destinations while the car is in drive?? The wife likes to program on the fly shopping trips and look for nearby destinations? I'm happy with the tradeoff, love the sunroof and still love the Garmin navigation, and I've only had a few near miss collisions while looking down at my radio;)

  3. I ran out of gas this morning. I was driving home last night (14 miles) when the low gas warning came on. I figured I had a couple gallons left as most vehicles warn you at 5 gallons. I figured I'd get gas at lunch today but didn't make it to work. I got less than 28 miles after the warning light came on. I'm supposedly getting 17.5 MPG.

Be warned that when that warning hits, you better get to gas NOW!

This is the first time I have run out of gas in 26 years.

Wow, thanks for the tip... did you check the trip computer (do you have an SXT or above?) Because it displays DTE (distance to empty) I had my light go on and I believe it was at about 60km's once it hits that mark it does not display kms remaining, just the fact you are low.

  4. You must be taller than most people. :D

Don't know if you have the rear seat entertainment package, but the flip-down screen for that really blocks a good chunk of the interior rearview.

I'm 6'4 and have the seat adjusted to the lowest position, the panaramic mirror is seen in the rear view mirror but it does not obstruct my view out the rear window.

And about the video screen that total obliterates your rear view... I have a story! The video was on, my 2 boys had their headphones on watching a movie, I had my music turned on and noticed a car ahead pull over. I continued on, well another car pulled over... so now I clue in, since my rear view was blocked I glanced over to driver side mirror only to see a speeding cop, lights and siren flashing just about to pass me.

    I felt like an idiot!

  5. Well Jay I would say that because the Dodge .ca website does not have any incentives for the Journey for us here in Canada (the Thank You Canada promotion), I would say that this dealer is advertising this on their own as a sales gimick to get customers to their dealership. This dealer is about 20 minutes from Detroit and I would also say that it would be hard to compete with "Motor City" that is soooooo close to them.

Just my take on it anyways.

    Thank you Jay

    Rob

I called Chrysler Canada customer service yesterday and they confirmed the incentive, as of June 3rd there is a 1000 bonus cash incentive available for the Journey SXT and above models (not SE or SE Plus) I took delivery on May 31st and they say they do not back date incentives so I'm out of luck - Im still not giving up, if I cant get the 1000 then Im sure as hell going to get something from the dealership. I dont know what my rights are in getting out of the sale/lease contract within a week as well - if its possible or not.

  6. So I'm out washing and waxing my new black AWD R/T, and while cleaning the rims, it seems to me like these high end rims are made out of some type of cheapo plastic material. I mean, it seems like the cheap plastic covers you can buy at any Walmart. Maybe I need to take another look but anyone else notice? Also, while washing, it seems like the entire rear bumper is really flimsy plastic as well, as it easily bent inward as I used my sponge to wash it.

    Minor quibbles, but quibbles nonetheless.

    Xphyle

They are chrome clad wheels that are put directly over the alum. rims. Plastic covers cladded in chrome... yeah pretty cheap for being a 600+ upgrade from the alum rims. But they still look good;) I just got my journey a couple days ago, I havent washed it yet, but as long as the bumper pops back then I wouldnt have a problem, might even mean less damage in small fender benders (if the bumper is that flexible)

  7. Welcome to the forum. Lot of good info being passed around, and a lot of people waiting for and/or loving thier Journey.

Great forum.. great car! Just picked up mine this weekend, put about 300 km's on it in the past 2 days... Love it, love the mygig, I was in heaven yesterday driving with my 2 kids in the car with their movie on in the backseat with their wireless headphones on... not a peep for 30 minutes, change the dvd and another 30! lol

  8. Hello. First post. I've been looking at the Dodge Journey online, yet to see one on a lot yet, but as far as pictures go I like the looks, hate the dash, but overall I like it. It seems that the reviews for the Journey are really poor from most well respected reviewing sites (poor mpg, poor quality, etc.). I need something in the low $20's, 7 seats, and warranty. Please help me with my decision, why should I buy the Journy. I own a 06 Dakota and really like it, sucks on gas, but I like it. I'm really having a hard time over looking these poor reviews, please help me. Thanks.

This is not a totally unbiased reply, I have always been a dodge boy (pro domestic as I live in the Windsor/Motor City area) I'll admit I read some reveiws that were not to great but I was not to concerned about reliability and the fact its the first year model because I have had relatively good experiences with my previous chrysler/dodge cars and currently my 98 Intrepid has 225,000 km's on it and she still runs great - even with it never having had a tune up / change the plugs, just regular maint. I replaced the tie rod ends and sway bar links and had a cracked rad (which was probably my fault) so under 1500 in unexpected repairs, not bad with 225,000km if you ask me.

I look for the best bang for the buck, and if you take your pre concieved notions about quality away from this you will be hard pressed to find anything out there with the Journeys features/performance for the price. The best thing you can do is take a test drive, drive the competitors... compare features for the money then make your decision.

    Good luck!

  9. Thank you 360 for your explanation. I will do as you suggest and wait until the Journey is broken in. I intend to tow a 16 foot trailer now and then to go camping so the autostik should be neat to use.

I imagine it takes a woman (my wife, I mean) a long time to learn this shifting business. I will have to really know how to use the stik myself before I let her fool around with it!

Nah, you can let her fool around with your stick first, let her get the feel of it... in my experience its always been better that way:)

    ... sorry I couldnt resist;)

  10. We have 2 drivers under 25 and will have 3 in another year or so

Our quote for our New (Almost here) Journey is $979 (I think) every 6 months

I had a nice surprise from my insurance broker this afternoon, received a call since they received the info on the journey from my dealer and I asked them how would my premiums be compared to the Caliber, after 10 mins I got a call to find out it would be less then what Im paying for my 07 Caliber, that based on an RT model, which Im getting and SXT.

  11. well said Nicetrip

this is why we loaded up the SXT AWD the Entertainment group #2 is 2500 up here but it also included parts of other options so the 2500 is alot less. The 2500 is for the complete group not just the nav system.

    Rob

Its a strange pricing scheme, if you dont get the entertainment 2 package some of the other options go up (conv 2, rear video) so in the end thats what I ordered. Im not taking my order as I found the same Journey on the lot without Entertainment 2 but every other feature plus the sunroof, I thought it should of been cheaper but in the end it was just over 400 more, so the cost of the navigation alone is about 600 bux. (1000 for the sunroof subtract 400)

3 more days until I take delivery!

  12. The actual numbers readout for PSI on the tires is only on the R/T with the EVIC.

The SXT we get idiot lights if the tires get low.

Gotchya... yeah my sales guy confirmed that yesterday.

Well I pulled the trigger and went with the SXT with the sunroof, pick it up next Saturday. I guess since I already made a lease payment for my Caliber this month I would have to get clearance from Chrysler Financial to make another lease payment on the same month, so instead of that hassle I was ok with picking it up a week from now, it will be a long week though lol. I think I got a great deal, the sunroof actually added about 400 to the price and I got that waived along with the admin fees and also told them I wanted to two front windows tinted.

    MSRP 32800 (including freight)

    Employee 29800 - (additional 450 taken off)

Monthly Lease - 437 taxes included with nothing down - 24000 a year kms

  13. I think you made the right choice, Scotstep. After a week or 2, you don't have to look down as much. Also, the steering wheel mounted controls make it easier as well. I like the little cubby bin that I would have had to give up for the navigation. We've got a handheld, so there was no need. I just wanted the MyGig.

I'm happy, I know a the old knob and joystick method would be ackward controlling the mygigs features as well but understand why it was necessary, if your as tall as me and sit back as far as I do in the car its a long reach to the top center stack area.

Does anyone know if there is a tire pressure monitor? I scrolled through the info display on the left side instrument cluster but it only toggles through 3 or 4 things, none of which shows tire pressure, maybe this was only on the RT?

  14. Did you confirm whether you were getting the upgraded speakers w/Subwoofer? According to what I can find, the upgraded sound is available 3 different ways (at least in the US):

As a standalone option at US$495

As part of the Rear Seat Video Group at US$1195

As part of Entertainment Group II at US$2495

Note also that if you get the Entertainment Group II, the price of the Rear Seat Video Group goes down to US$825, so you're not paying twice for the upgraded speakers.

As for NAV system, I decided it wasn't worth it. My next GPS unit is going to be a DASH. http://www.dash.net/ ...and no, I have no affiliation with DASH, I just think it's the most functional car accessory to come out in a long time!

Yes your right on that, I was relieved to see when I looked inside to see the Infinity speaker badge on the A post pillar! I was cruising last night with the tunes turned up and the sound system is great for a factory setup. I'll have to check out DASH, though for now my Nuvi 350 is working great.

  15. Did you end up cancelling the order for the one that you said will be here in July?

I asked my sales guy about that and he just said they will let the order go through and put it on their lot, no big deal for them.

The dealership it will be going to is Countryside in Essex (Ontario)

  16. Well we decided... the wife loves the sunroof and we have a garmin, so for about the same price its an acceptable tradeoff (same price because every other feature is on this one, just no NAV) Actually MSRP works out to be 400 more.

The great thing... I had it last night and took it home for a nice test drive and still have her this morning, I'll do up the paperwork this afternoon but I'll likely have it for keeps sometime first thing next week all shined up!

I dont care for the position of the radio but realize it does work well because my hand naturally sits on the shifter for support so it makes for comfortable access though being low you do need to take your eyes off the road more, I imagine once you get used to the layout of the buttons etc you will not need to look down as often.

Love the ride after my first 60 clicks, the Caliber was a perfect fit for me 2 1/2 years ago with 2 small kids, now with one shooting up like a bad weed the Journey again fills my need perfectly pushing back my 'minivan' years even more;)

  17. How much are they asking for the SXT you mentioned...if you don't mind telling me.

The one I have on order is stickered at 32800, I get the employee discount (29100 my price) 436 taxes included lease with nothing down. The one I see on the lot right now is 31440 (add sunroof, minus navigation)

If I decide to cancel my order I wonder if you could assume the order (it would be ready first week of July) Its Inferno Red, every option but trailer tow, childseat, smokers group.

  18. Are located in Canada...if so where. The SXT you are describing is almost exaclty what I am looking for minus the sunroof...I ordered one last week but the dealer says it won't be here before August...which is when I want it.

Yes Im in Canada, Windsor Ontario. I ordered mine April 17th, looking at almost 3 months wait if I stick with my order, my Caliber lease is due June 7th and the wife does not trust our 98 intrepid (rock solid car) with 220000km's for any distance travelling we plan to do the third week of June. If I stick with the order I found out I can extend my lease for a month on the Caliber. I really want the damn Journey though!! Reason my questions about is the Nav features really worth it....
