  1. I switched all my lights to LEDs (and I do mean all, inside and out)! To see how to switch the inside lights to LEDs, see this posting: http://www.dodgejourneyforum.com/index.php?showtopic=297

If you want to switch all the outside lights to LEDs, there is a few things you should know:

    - I have the Journey SE, and there is not a bulb out warning signal or light. I even read the manual and it does not say anything about a bulb out warning signal or light on any of our trim levels (SE, SXT, or R/T).

-Use a 3157 to replace the 3757. They are pretty much the same, but you will need to sand down the little bump on the side of the plug on the bulbs. It is really easy. Once you get your bulbs and try to plug them in, you will see what I’m talking about. It is easy.

-Get as many LEDs on each bulb as you can. For example, each one of my brake lights has 39 LEDs. Get that many or higher on your brake lights. Anything less is not bright enough.

-For the turn signals, buy amber color LEDs. Honestly in the front, the LED turn signal bulbs look sweet, but in the rear, you can’t tell if it is LED or not. I changed mine anyway so all of them are the same color amber (the stock bulb is a different color amber compared to the LED amber).

-for the brake lights, buy red color LEDs. Bright white LEDs in the red lens will turn out to be a very washed out red. Not a good look at all (it will look worse than the stock bulbs!).

-Don’t switch the front side markers to LEDs. Leaving those really makes your turn signal LEDs stand out and adds contrast. Trust me, it looks nice.

These are the bulbs I used. What you use is up to you. Different LED bulb sets give off different shades of light. Example, my turn signal bulbs are bigger than my brake light bulbs, but they give off less light and the amber color is a real deep amber. It looks nice. You may want to buy two different types of each bulb and try them out. Just return or sell the ones you don't use. I did that for my reverse light bulbs.

Where did you get them from?

  2. I just had to replace my front pad at 28,000mi, they were worn to NOTHING. I know it's not my driving habits because this has NEVER happened to me before. Anyway, I put ceramic pad on and now I have a squeal in the passenger from when I put the brakes on. I pulled the wheel off reseated the pads, took emery cloth to the rotor and nothing. It doesn't happen all the time, but about 90%. Any ideas??? Thanks.

they make a brake "gllue". you apply it to the back of the pads. The squeal is the pad vibrating against the caliper. This tacky stuff will dampen the vibration. I use it all the time. You put it on let it setup for about 5 to 10 mins. then install pads as normal. Semi Metallics squeal horrible. After application no noise.

  3. Thanks. I think I might go buy one soon. I'm kind of depressed though. I see a lot of you getting what I consider great gas mileage out of your Journeys. Me, I get 15.5-16-5mpg in town and about 23 max at 65-70mph highway. And I drive very conservatively...I try my absolute best to maximize my mileage. I just don't get it. Oh well, sorry about the rant.

that is about what I get with the V6. At 70mph at least.

  4. When I plug my iPod into the glove box connector, it shows up just fine and I can control everything through the stereo but it won't charge and won't turn off when I turn the car off. So I basically burn through the iPod's battery and then have to take it in the house to recharge it. I also have to open the glove box and turn the iPod off everytime I get out of the car or else it stays on and drains the battery.

When I connect an older iPod that I have it works perfectly, charges and turns off when I turn off the car like it should. It must be an issue with the iPod that I have. It is the last generation of iPod Nano (not the most recent one that just came out in August '09 or so).

Any ideas? Will updating the stereo software fix this? Or is there a patch for the iPod that fixes this issue?

    Thanks!

not sure about the Nano put the Touch and iphone do not have the firewire charge circuit anymore. So it has to be charged on the USB circuit. I solved the problem by getting this:

    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/...o-usb-converter

It does not turn off the phone but it does charge it.

  5. I have been dealing with my sunroof leaking water and staining my headliner since March of this year. I finally got a Chrysler rep to take a look at the car to get it fixed. Sounds like they are going to replace every single part involved with the sunroof and drainage system, including a new headliner. Which will be the second one they have changed. The dealer has had my car for over a week and I am guessing they are waiting on parts. Which sounds like it could be a long time before they get all the parts.

Back to my original subject. Those that have sunroofs. Do you have a a plastic tray in the back of the sunroof to catch any water that might drip into the interior? Mine does not have one installed and it is one of the parts they will be putting in.

And if they don't get my car fixed the Journey will be going bye-bye and get lemoned out. That is what I want to do with it. Of course I see it being a long road ahead of me for that option. Car manufactures can never own up and say they had a bad car come out of their factory and drag things out.

Don't know about the drip pan but mine leaked pretty good on me. They found that the drain hoses were kinked where water would normally be passed. They also found an alignement problem. Fixed on first try.

  6. I have the RT and get about 21 on average. I do a lot of HWY driving. I am curious. What gas are you folks using? I have been using 87 since 87 or 89 is allowed. Every once in a while it will idle a little rough. Wondering if I will get better milage using 89.

Well I started using 89. Gas milage went up at 1.5 mpg. Just got back off a 3000 mile road trip. Through the blue ridge mountains I got just under 21 going 70 -75 with a soft roof rack. On flat roads I got about 22. When I went on a side trip with no roof rack on flat roads doing about 60 I got 24.2.

  7. It was 95 degrees + here in Missouri this past week. I noticed something about the Journey. When the AC is on there is water dripping from behing the right rear wheel. I know it was water and nopt brake fluid because I checked it. Of course there was also the normal water dripping from the AC area.

I have had the same thing happen on hot and cold days. I have had my Journey since Janurary. Looked like the water was coming from the exhaust. I always figured it was condensation. I am in St. Louis area.

  8. most of the weight should be on the bottom cross bar not the one resting on the glass. I just picked up a hatch mounted one. The lower bar can easily be made to rest on the bumper thus all the weight is resting on the bumper instead of the straps. The straps just keep it from moving at that point. Going on a 2000 mile round trip with 2 smaller bikes for the kids. I have fitted everything and gone out for a test drive. Seems solid.

  9. Hi, I made the jump from a 2007 Jeep liberty to a new Dodge journey 2009 but I'm starting to regret my move. I loved the solid feel of the liberty and the controle you have with it on the road. My whife didn't like the limited space in the libery with 3 young kids and so it was time to move to a 7 seater. The journey looked like a good choice and it could " ON PAPER " pull my small popup trailer and had lots of room in it. The problem being as soon as you add more then 300Lbs in the back of the journey " Passanger or other" the rear end has a very large bounce and the rear suspenton does not seam to be good enought to keep it stable and prevent the bounce. This get even wors when the trailer is attached. I didn't get any of this bounce with the Liberty. I've gone to the dealer 2 times about this and both times I get the all is ok with it from them. It's going in againe tomorrow for this and this time I'm forcing them to change the shocks as I can't stand it anymore. If this can't fix it , I will have to look at changing it as it's realy bad :banghead:

I believe that the book states that you should not put more than 350 on the tongue. The amount should be more inside the tires but as far as the trailer goes they say no more than 10% that is 350 on 3500lbs capacity.

  10. Since 87 is allowed it will not damage the motor. I found that 87 was causing a rough idle. I also noticed less fuel economy. I get about 1.5mpg more with midgrade. That is a wash at an extra .15 per gal. But the rough idle is gone.

  11. I have a FWD SXT w/ 19" wheels. I have a groaning noise only when I turn left. Now my dealership told us this is normal...but apparently so are computer glitches so....

I think read something as well about replacing the tank for one bigger and it should fix the problem.

There is a recall on the Powersteering pump for just that problem.

  12. We had our SXT in the shop for a week (seat stiching repair, alarm repair, brakes were cleaned) They said that there was rust on the breaks and that was the causing for the insanly annoying and embarrassing squealing (@ 14,700kms). Now I'm pretty sure that driving and using the breaks, in effect, does the same thing as cleaning them if rust is the cause. However, when we start a drive, no squeal, it's only as we drive more and use the breaks more that they squeal more. So it's going back in on Friday.

Very annoyed with this, while the vehicle itself shouldn't have a problem, if they dealership thought there was even a possibility that it could be something else (like the calipers they are now suggesting) that could be causing the problem, they should have checked it out when they had it for six days!!!

I'll post an update next week when I get the report back.

I have foudn that sometimes break pads are actually vibrating against the caliper. If you are so inclined they make a backing for the brake pads that is spray on. It goes something like remove the pads spray the liner on and let it dry. Then reinstall the pads. It basically puts a thin rubber like layer between the caliper and teh pads. I use it on back of metallic pads as they are bad for squealing.

  13. This really surprises me. We are likely going to buy a Journey in June so I have no first hand info at all, but if you go here and view the very last picture, it tells a different story!

When I pressured my dealer serivce dept. about it they thought (could not confirm) that there were diffrent versions of the EVIC. Now I am not saying that is true as I bought mine used and did not get a look at the options but if there are different EVIC levels I would expect that someone would have the version that displays it. They said 1 manual per car model is causing them all kinds of problems becuase most aren't listed as options to folks expect it to work if it is in the manual.

  14. Just speculation on my part:

I wonder if, in addtion to the engine use algorithm, the oil change indicator also takes into account how many calendar days since the last oil change. This would mean that all of the days after your Journey was "born", including those in transit, sitting on the dealer's lot, etc. all count against the number of days before the oil change indication appears. One would think that the dealer prep instructions would include resetting this counter, but it's something that can be easily skipped and no one knows any better (at least initially).

Has anyone gotten only 2500 between their first and second oil change?

I ordered my Journey, so it was about as close to being "factory fresh" as possible, and the indicator didn't come on until after 5,600 miles.

Still working on finding the formula used for calculation....

My first time came at 2550. The second time it was 5600. Keep in mind that once the indicator comes on the manual says change within 500 Miles.

  15. I went to the Dodge dealership and got the air filter($26.90) and cabin filter($20.17). A bit pricey as the after markets are about 50% less. Air filter fit just fine. Anyone notice how much dirt was in the bottom of the air box? Bad intake location behind the grill, maybe?

I'm going to write to Purolaor and find out why the air filter does not fit and why they don't make a cabin filter. Let you know what I hear. Set for another 12,000 miles.

Just went to my dealer yesterday. they quoted me $18.40 + tax for the cabin filter.

  16. I did not notice any leaks when I went through the auto/brushless car wash with the Journey, but my 2007 Caliber does leak a little when I use the same wash. It does not leak in the rain. There is a lot of pressure hitting the sun roof and I can see water being forced in when it passes. If the roof rails are not right and you smell oil,I'd take it back there, or to another dealer.

I also have had no problems taking my Journey through the car wash. I had a 2001 Grand Cherokee and a 1999 Mazda 626 that did not leak going through the car wash. So sealing up against water has been around for a while.

  17. We have just taken delivery of a full meal deal RT...nice car, really, I used to sell Mercedes and this has most of the bells and whistles on that an E5004M had. i have not been able to get it to download the address book from the two blackberry 8310 curves that are paired to the uconnect system. it says this is supposed to happen automatically. having searched the internet for references, I have not found much usable info. the car was a dealer trade in from out of province and the manuals for the MyGig/Uconnect and DVD dont seem to have made the trip to cowtown. does anyone have and info or experience with this issue?

thanks for any help in advance..

    :banghead:

I ae 2 curves as well. I have not had to download the book. It seems that on the curves it uses the blackberry for voice recognition. I used it under the original OS and the new OS for it on the phone. The biggest problem I have had is one or the other not waking up to link up in bluetooth mode. So I get "Uconnect Ready" instead of blah blah phone is connected. Once I wake both up they sync so I am working out a routine to make sure it happens automatically.

  18. I can't see it either. Only the low tire pressure idiot light comes on for me.

So it is in the book that we should be able to see it in the EVIC when low and none of us with EVIC can see it. Who wants to explain this to a dealer first? The fact that other models do or don't show it all the time does not mean much. My 2001 Jeep had way more functions in the EVIC that this does and I am still trying to get used to that.

  19. I have started to notice that the outside lights on my Journey are pulsating when at idle. I have not noticed it while the engine is above idle. I turned off the Mygig and temp control system but it does not seem to help. I also covered up the auto sensor to make sure that it was not getting some wierd reflection. Anyone else having this problem? I am tempted to contact the dealer but...

  20. So I got this baby for gas mileage, and it does fine. Just wondering what everyone else is getting. I have a 3.5l sxt fwd, and i get 19 on the display, but when i figure by odometer, i get 22 mpg. Not too bad, but I want MORE!!! I have a customer that claims 37 on the highway with his 2.4, but I don't know about that. So please share...

I have the RT and get about 21 on average. I do a lot of HWY driving. I am curious. What gas are you folks using? I have been using 87 since 87 or 89 is allowed. Every once in a while it will idle a little rough. Wondering if I will get better milage using 89.
