  1. Just an Update: Went through a tank of premium, 1 1/2 tanks for mid grade and still no change. Took it in today and they say it's fine it's supposed to be like that. The service manager was really nice but I find it hard to believe that my $30k vehicle should have a noticeable shake in the steering wheel and seat that passengers can feel when it's idling. He said he talked to the Tech Hotline and they didn't advise him of anything regarding the engine. We are going to take out another Journey and see if they all behave this way or not.

  2. Thanks for all the great replies. I only every fill up at Costco and Co-Op which I thought would be quality gas (I'm in Saskatchewan). I put a tank of Shell premium in and a bottle of gas line anti-freeze and will see how it performs at the next fill up. If it's not any better then I'll take it in again ugh.

  3. So we have had our new 2012 Journey SXT 3.6l for about 2 mths and 2500km. For the last month or so we've noticed a shake in the vehicle when it idles. My wife notices it more when it first starts, it is very noticeable after it warms up and sitting in a drive thru for more than a few minutes.

We took it in and of course no one noticed it, went to Tim Horton's after leaving the dealership and it was so noticeable I was more than a little po'd at the dealership. I called our sales guy, he wanted to see it so I took it down to him and he noticed it (not at it's worst mind you), he seems to think it's because we are using 87 octane gas and suggested going through a full tank of Shell V-Power ( or whatever the best one is they have) and then going to a mid-grade from Shell. I've been reading using the 89 octane will give us better mileage and performance so I will likely switch to that. My wife is furious though and thinks the salesman is full shit and feels like we are being treated as nit-picky (we've had other problems, that the dealership either didn't see or said they fixed and didn't).

Can anyone confirm that 87 octane would cause a rough idling? It's going to take us months to burn through 2 full tanks of gas and I'm concerned we are being brushed off.

    Thanks for any input.

  4. UPDATE: Went to the dealership on Friday October 7th. The radio was re flashed with the latest update and so far ( been in the Journey 3 times, since ) the volume has not blasted upon start up. The brakes squeeling will be replaced in a few weeks when the engine is being fixed for the rough idle issue. As for the rough idle issue, the Tech Centre rep was there and found that my VIN number was within a group of other VIN numbers that have a Harmonic Balancer concern. A Harmonic Balancer can also be called a Crank Pulley Damper or a Crankshaft Damper. There was a concern during production with these Harmonic Balancers and my VIN # falls within this concern. A Rapid Response was issued to these VIN #'s and are to be replaced when serviced. Now I just have to wait for the part to come in from MOPAR. Could take a few weeks.... I may get in touch with my contact at Trenton to see if we can speed this up a bit rather than waiting for the part from MOPAR. STAY TUNED !

Do you know if there is a way I can check my VIN? Not impressed with my service center so far and don't really trust them to go beyond what they can see right in front of them.

  5. Just wondering, has anyone had any issues with their Pentastar 3.6L engine having a rough idle? The engine shakes quite a bit at idle in gear and in neutral and the gas milage as of yesterday was around 11.1 L/100kms. Tha seems a little off for what this new engine should be performing at. I have 2500 K on it, so far. Sounds like we may have to get the Tech Center involved..

Also noticed a squeeky left front brake.

The other annoying issue is the radio. When the Journey is started up after sitting for a while, the radio blasts really loudly.. I know when I left it, the volume was around 10-12 and when I start up, the volume blasts around 22.

If I get a chance, later on I'll check for any TSB's or Rapid Recalls on these subjects. In the mean time, just wondering if anyone has any input on these issues. Thanks.

I have the same issues around the same km's 2200 except for the brakes (thank god I hate that sound). The dealership told me they didn't notice the shaking at all and couldn't repeat the stereo problem. Of course as soon as I left the dealership the radio went crazy but gut reaction I turned it down right away so I couldn't go back and show them oh well. Our shifting problem is somewhat random but doing to take it in anyway, hopefully they can find the problem.
