  1. Windows 8 Phones will do text to voice reads and voice to text send via Bluetooth.

It interrupts whatever is going on with the Uconnect system, silencing radio etc. Then takes over the system, the mic in the car transfers your speech to the phone.

If I remember correctly this is how the phone/car system works.

    1-Text message received

2-"Message from <person>, would you like to read it or ignore?"

    3-Say "Read it"

4-text to speech: "Hey are you coming to the soccer game today?"

5-"You can say reply or I'm done"

    6-Say "reply"

    7-prompt "Say your text message"

8-Say "no I am going to be busy tonight if you know what I mean"

9-prompt "You can say I'm done, add more, or try again"

    10-Say "I'm done"

    11-prompt "message sent"

Ofcourse you can only use it to reply to received text messages, there is no way to create a brand new message without having been sent a text first.

  2. Roof rails are optional on the R/T model, as having them detracts from the sporty appearance (if that's what one is going for).

The red stitching is only available on the R/T in the US; I think that the other models have orange, white, or brown stitching depending on the interior color.

I guess appearance is all personal preference. BTW my Crew is US ordered has red stitching, see picture above.

  3. I have a Ford Focus 2012 with the myFord Touch.... believe me when I say the uConnect totally destroys it.

MFT reindexes/rebuilds my MP3's everytime I start the car

MFT forgets song/state it was last in everytime I start the car

With the MFT there is 1-2 second lag/delay between presses

Not to mention the horror story of 3 months after taking delivery trying to even get the damn system to a workable state.

The Journey is my wife's car, I am jealous of her... enough said.

  4. I have a 2012 Crew FWD.

This was a purchase to make it our family vehicle.

Things that I love about it.

    - Tons of storage, can't get enough, bins under 2nd row floorboard, under front passenger etc.

    - 3rd row seating. I am 5'10" 150lbs, and I fit easily in the 3rd row and actually sat comfortably during the test drive... haven't tested again since :D (so putting kids in the back here shouldn't be a problem at all.)

    - Quick access to 3rd row, pull one lever that folds up the 2nd row and slides easily. Easier access using the 40 split side.

    - If you can find a used one with 2nd row seat boosters... comes with 2 built in, takes up no more room than the regular seat. Could possible fit car seat/booster in middle of 2nd row as well... so can go inseat booster - external booster/car seat - inseat booster.

BTW FWD/AWD is sort of up for debate, it helps when you are stationary and are trying to get go. Or on a hill and have to stop and go. Or if you are plowing through snow and possible risk getting stuck (though this last one, how often do you really drive on unplowed roads?)

Other than that, while you are travelling and if you hit ice, FWD/AWD are pretty much the same.

I went back and forth for a month trying to decide between FWD/AWD... in the end I chose the FWD... didn't really feel AWD gave much for the added cost / maintenance / weight / more things to break.

From what I gathered from the reviews FWD w/ good set of winter tires > AWD w/ All seasons

  5. Glad I got the crew.

Stubby antenna on back looks wierd... and what is up with the top rails? Black car missing it, and white car has black rails.

I don't like the body colored door handles as well... I like me some chrome, though I have a feeling it can get scratched up pretty quick.

BTW question about the red stitching.... is that normal on all the lines? I thought only the R/T had it... my Crew has Pearl leather w/ red stiching as well...

When I test drove it at the dealership they had the Tan leather and I don't remember it having red stitching.

    Pearl Leather w/ Red Stitching

  6. Congrats! It's well worth the wait!

Hey question for you before I take my car back in for service.

There are a few items that I noticed:

1 - the floor heat/ac rattles. When I set it to blow from the dash vents, no rattle, when I switch it to floor it rattles. It is not too bad it sounds like someone put a small piece of paper against a spinning fan. More noticeable on speed setting 4 and up.

2 - The 2nd row seat seems to lock. For some reason, I can slide back and forth, but once I let the lever go and the seat repositions a little bit, there is a click probably indicating that it locked into position. But I can no longer use the lever to slide 2nd row back and forth. In order to get it to work again, I have to use the quick folding lever to fold the seat, slide it a little back and forth, then the slide lever works again. A pain in the ass.

Is there anything I am missing? I tried to look up info on #2 issue and I couldn't figure it out, or the manual didn't mention anything about it locking.

Issue #1 I am definitely getting it looked at.

  7. Yeah, the Dodge site just shows the same $1500 customer cash that's been on there for a while. My dealer also doesn't know anything about additional "Big Finish" coupons or incentives. Oh well, I guess isn't anything additional in my area.

I received it in the mail from dodge. I had signed up to receive journey brochure a few months back. It was not anything locally advertised. I emailed my dealer if they will take it... Basically it is as good as cash since dodge will give the dealer the 1k back.

  8. Here's the timeline of mine:

    10/13 - Order placed

    10/31 - Order confirmed

11/11 - VIN assigned & Scheduled for production

    11/28 - Shipped from factory

That's where my visibility ends. The last estimate for dealer delivery was 12/19.

Mine supposedly left factory on the 29th of nov, loaded on train 5th of dec, will transfer to truck on 16th.

Also dodgr sent me a 1k coupon. My dealer applied it to my order for total of $6k off sticker price.

$27k for crew w/ tow, 2nd row child, nav, rear ent, leather, flex seats.

  9. I see Dodge finally came back to their senses and has put R/T back at the top trim level for the US market Journey. This is in keeping with a 45-year heritage of the R/T being the top trim level for a Dodge car. Why they did what they did for 2011 did not make any sense.

They had the RT lined up a long time ago it was in their literature.... Just said late availability.

Here is breakdown between all the journey models...

    http://www.media.chrysler.com/dcxms/assets/specs/2012_DG_Journey_FA.pdf

It looks like you are paying a $1k premium to have the R/T badge and minor cosmetic upgrades.

Unless ofcourse they start restricting options you can buy on the Crew as well. So all the high tech features are R/T option only.

  10. Don't rely on the Dodge website to detail what's included in the different trims and packages. The R/T wasn't even listed as an available trim for 2012 until today. I believe the biggest component of the R/T upcharge is the standard leather seats. That's a $500 option on the Crew. The R/T also doesn't come with the roof rails anymore. Those have to be added as an option even though they're standard on the Crew.

    Edit:

This is what I get through my dealer:

    TRIM: FWD 4dr R/T

FLEXIBLE SEATING GROUP, -inc: 2nd row 40/60 tilt & slide bench seat, 3rd row 50/50 fold/reclining bench seat, auto temp control w/3 zone control, easy entry system seat, GVW/payload rating, rear air cond w/heater

    Destination & Delivery: $800.00

    Options: $3,655.00

    Total: $32,950.00

    Basically price difference is $1K.

  11. It costs $1K more than 2012 Crew and all it adds are:

    ■Includes Everything on Crew, Plus:

    ■19-Inch Satin Carbon Painted Wheels

    ■Performance Suspension

■Automatic Headlamps (included as standard on Crew)

    ■Body Color Grille

    ■Body Color Door Handles

■Premium door trim panels (included part of leather package on Crew)

However the crew already comes with automatic headlamps.

So other than the Performance Suspension, everything else is cosmetic. Is it worth the $1K extra really?

Edit: On the other hand, on Dodge.com website it does not let you add the Rear Video, Navigation group with the Crew but it is available for the S/T.

However I was able to order these features for my Crew through my dealer.

  12. Hi all.

In about 2 months I will be a proud owner of my first SUV ever.

I bought the Tow Prep Package part of my vehicle order. Reading these forums I come to realize that the Wiring is not installed.

I had a few questions especially geared towards 2012 model if anyone already has it.

    1) Is the wiring 4 pin or 7 pin that comes with the Tow Prep package?

    2) Is the Engine oil cooler already installed? And if so how can I make sure, I am not exactly sure what it will look like.

    3) What is the maximum tow capacity of 2012 V6? From the manual http://www.dodge.com/download/pdf/manuals/2012-Journey-OM_R-3rd.pdf

It states the V6 is capable only of towing 2500lbs Pg 457.

What gives? From reading this forums and 2011 manual it was capable for 3,500lbs. Even Dodge's website only lists 2,500lbs for 2012.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Waiting for Delivery off of rail car for our 2012 Journey R/T White. Checking with dealer they told me it would likely be middle of next year (2012) before the 8.4 screen would be available. We have never seen the 8.4 except for photos, would not have wanted or needed the navaigation so the 4.3 seems to do the trick for what we would use after playing around with it during our test drive. Other than the back -up camera view I think that is the only thing we would miss, we do however have the back-up assist but not the camera. We wanted an R/T in White with Sunroof, flexible seating, chrome 19" wheels, driver convenience package(Back-up assist and garage opener), black leather and no child booster seats as without they were softer. It took alot of searching but they found one and are brining it in from another dealer after it gets off of rail car.....can't wait.

I have a guaranteed delivery date of no later than December 30th on mine with the 8.4N.

My original order was NLT Dec 12th with the 8.4.

Though I just noticed you are in Canada. So that might change things.

  14. I just read the VEC section in the owner's manual that details how the rear seat entertainment integrates with the head unit, and it sounds like it's really slick! Now I'm thinking I should have included the rear entertainment in my order. Did you have any trouble adding the packages to your order after it was already submitted? I called my dealer to see if I could add it, and they said that the car is in "D1" status and already has a VIN number assigned, so they can't make any changes. But that seems weird since your order was placed before mine.

I didn't have any problems with mine, however mine hadn't start being built yet and didn't have a VIN.

My dealer did tell me once I was assigned a VIN that changes could not be guaranteed, so that is probably why you can't change yours.

My original order guaranteed delivery date was NLT Dec 12. With the changes it is now Dec 30.

The rear entertainment package also has a build date of no earlier than November 1st, I guess waiting for parts.
