  1. Has anyone had any problems starting their Journey? I got in my Journey one day and it just wouldn't start....nothing when I would turn the key. Took it in to the dealer and they say it is the wireless control module which needs to be replaced. They still have my journey and are waiting on the part to come in. Anyone else ever have a problem like this???

I had the same issue, turned the key and nothing, my lights worked, radio worked but nothing happened when I turned the key. I jumped it and it started, but did it again a week later. Turned out to be the WIN module, they replaced it and reprogrammed my keys and it never happened again.

  2. Well to everyone here your not alone. I think first yr models are lemons. Slowly Im remembering stuff and looking at my invoices Ive also had to have my key replaced.

Did you have the same vibration? And was it fixed. I also have that grinding noise when my car is parked and I turn the wheel they did a TSB on it and it was quiet for like a day.

Mine started with the replacement of the power steering reservoir

Then the engine was tapping. they replaced lifters and exhaust lifters, still tapped

Replaced engine, on the way home check engine light came on, and it still tapped

Check engine light was due to technician not connecting a wire harness, they fixed this and changed rocker arms, still tapped

On the was home the tranny was banging, pulled in my garage and looked on the floor, tranny fluid all over

Back at dealer, they tore a transmission seal while replaceing the engine, and claimed they test drove and checked it out after the engine replacement, they claimed they drove it 80 miles and nothing but the moment i get in it is blowing fluid

The car would not start with the key fobs, it was like the battery was dead, but it was not, they had to replace the win module

The led lights for the back seats stopped working, they had to replace the unit as well

Check engine light came on again and the car was making a loud noise as if I was driving a groved pavement, happened at speeds of 45mph and usually after driving for 20 mintues. They changed the O2 sensor as this is what they say the code was for.

The new engine was still tapping so the redid the lifters and exhaust lifters, still tapped

Changed intake it still tapped and had a whislting noise coming from where the alternator was.

The check engine light came on again, for a faulty O2 sensor.

Left car at dealer after that.

  4. Well Im new to the forum and Im also one of the owners who is finally fed up with my sxt 09 journey. I can say that I have been babying this car all maintenance and repairs being done at dodge dealerships. But they havent fixed anything. Sorry no wonder they are in hole. Im a florida resident and got my journey with 28 miles on the odometer. I bought my car in May of 08 and after 2k miles the problems started. :banghead: Its being Lemoned Im Done. I loved the car (3 Kids) but enough is enough.

So far Ive had my radio replaced.

I have had my rotors redone 2 times and replaced once. And still have wheel shaking issues when braking.

I have water entering my drivers side when going thru puddles and its coming fom the bottom and going into the backseat storage. Its been repaired once and still coming in I have mildew and maybe mold brewing under that carpet.

I have had my sunroof worked on and my carpet replaced once already.

Had the spring replaced in the front due to a clunking sound.

You name it I have been there with this car. And honestly Dodge should man up to making very defective vechiles. I have spokent to Starline (repair experts) and they cant even fis this.

Thank you for letting me vent :D

I bought mine in May 08 as well and it was bought back by chrysler as a lemon in March 09. I had the engine replaced and a number of other items replaced/repaired as well, all under 10,000 miles. Good Luck.

  5. Hi All,

I got the FWD 2.7L v6 R/T journey three weeks ago in China, everything goes well but the check engine light has being on since a week ago. I took it to the dealer yesterday, after check, they told me that the problem code is p0161, O2 sensor dosen't work since it could not reach the work temperature, but they could not find any issue from O2 sensor, also other spare parts. they thought maybe its a ECU bug then they updated the ECU's routine downloaded from Chrysler's website, but the light is still on.

Finally, they decided to order a new ECU for my journey, it will arrive in about a half month.

Anyone got the same issue? and I wonder whether ECU replacement will cause other issues?

    Thanks a lot :)

I had the same problem, check engine light kept coming on. The computer would tell them it was an O2 sensor. It was changed twice and the light still came on. My truck turned out to be a lemon and was bought back by Chrysler. It had other engine problems besides the check engine light and O2 sensor.

  6. We got our Journey delivered May 31st 2008. From day 1, it was a disaster. It was dirty inside, had a dent in the door, the dash was coming apart, parts missing and over 100 miles on a supposed BRAND NEW car. Within the 1st week of driving it we noticed a grinding noise coming from the front passenger side. No ryhme or reason for it. Didnt matter if we turned, accelorated or anything. Just happened when it wanted to happen. We have taken it in over 5 times to get part replaced. First they thought it was the resevoir (sp?). They replaced that three times. They tightened the pulley on the suspension or something like that. We took it back last Tuesday to 'fix' it again. And on the way home it did the same noise!! And now we have ANOTHER noise on the drivers side! My husband says it sounds like a hole in the brake line, like there is air getting into it. There is no rhyme or reason for that noise either, although we do notice when we push on the brakes it will sometimes STOP the noise?! But sometimes it doesnt do anything. It was literally a CONSTANT almost screeching, nails on a chalkboard, ANNOYING sound. And the brakes are top of the line, brand new. So after all this, my husband was a little upset. The countless miles, gas and time off of work to take this thing in to get it 'fixed' and it still not fixed. So he calls them up, says hes just tired and wants the dealership to take the car and give us another one. We tired of paying for something that is clearly not brand new and not worth the money were paying for it. They run an appraisal on it and say they can offer us 16 grand for it, and of course we owe 18. So we bring up Oklahoma's Lemon Law. Which first they told us didnt exist, until I pulled it up in front of them on my cell phone and went to Oklahoma.gov! Then they say they cant do anything for us. Literally, we are driving a time bomb. I am scared to drive this with my kids in it, and thats the WHOLE reason we got this car. It says in the lemon law that the manufactuer, or authorized dealer is required to give a full refund if a reasonable number of attempts have been made to fix the car. Well apparently they say they are not an authorized dealer, so I have to contact Chrysler. Who by the way is going BANKRUPT! So why in the world would they do a buyout for us?! We are literally screwed. Do not go to Fowler Dodge in Oklahoma City and Do NOT buy a Journey. I love my car but I hate all these problems!!! If anyone knows how I can try to get a buyout PLEASE help!!

    I will pm u

  7. Another thing I noticed too is whatever you left the HVAC controls at when you turn it off, it will not be the same when you start it back up. Or maybe it is that way when you use the autostart feature. I put it on defrost and fan on high thinking it would melt off the frost from over night. Nope it switched back to something else.

I would bet the same thing would happen with the air conditioner. One of the benefits of having an autostart is to make the cabin comfy before entering.

    I noticed the same thing.

  8. I have the same symptoms with mine. We don't use it too much so I have not even asked the dealer about it.

I had the same issue. Plus the TV never turned back on when the car was started. I had to go into the menu and turn on the rear ves everytime I got in. I asked the dealer about it and they said if I turned on rear ves in the main menu then the TV should come on everytime I start the car witout my intervention.

  9. Has anyone who has the 3.5-liter V-6 engine in their Journey had work on done it and been happy with the repairs???

I had the same engine in my RT which I bought May 08. The car ran fine until Nov when it stated to get colder and at the same time I received a notice from my dealer to have the power steering res. changed. Once the local dealer started touching the car in November 08 it was in and out of the dealer weekly and at some points it was at the dealer for a week or more at a time. I had lifters, exhaust lifeters, engine, lifters again, O2 sensor, win module, back seat lights, fog lights, intake all replaced before 10,000 miles. I finally had it with the car and the aggrevation with the dealer and did a buy back with Chrysler. the were very understanding, very helpful and within a 3 week time frame they purchased my vehicle back. I still supported chrysler as I love Jeeps and bought a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. I suggest if you have problems to contact Chrylser directly and see what can be done. Good Luck.

  10. Hi guys a weird thing happened to me today . I work at a Chysler dealer in Canada and was having trouble finding a grinding noise in a 09 journey with a 3.5 . I googled and found this forum ,i read some of your concerns that you have had with you cars and used that to diag. the problem .if your having a growl or grind you can also hear the belt tentioner I found the right engine mount making the noise . hope this helps . Oh and be nice to your Techs... we sometimes fix the first time!!!

Hey Chaps after having all that replaced my wife experienced a grinding noise coming from the engine at speeds around 45 mph. she also said the car sounded like she was driving on grooved pavement. This happened about 3-4 times as well as the check engine light coming on at the same time. The dealer was unable to duplicate this problem but they said the check engine light had to do with an O2 sensor, which they replaced and the light still came on. When the light comes on though the tranny bangs and the car hesitates. They cannot figure any of this out. I also had a whistle coming from the area around the alternator which they could not pinpoint. One of the other human errors was that they happened to destroy my axle seals while replacing the engine and I had tranny fluid everywhere. They said the car was good to go and on my 3 minute ride home I was leavinga trail of fluid. I know they did not even check the car after they worked on it, rumor has it there was a spill in the bathroom and the tech was need to go mop the floor. Anyway they blamed the whistle on the fluid which coated my belts. I cannot tell you if they were right as I parked the car at the dealer and refused to take it back as it is unsafe. But I suggest you speak with someone at chrysler and let them know what you found out about the grind/growl noise as I had the engine plant on the phone with my dealer for over 2 months and noone could figure it out. Turns out they are bringing my Journey back to the plant and taking it to the lab to tear it down to find out what went wrong.

  11. After 3 months of the ticking and having the lifters replaced, ehxhaust lifters replaced, then the engine replaced, then the lifters again, then the intake, not to mention all the other issues that developed while my service department tooled around under the hood, Chrysler is buying back my Journey. If you are experiencing the tapping/ticking noise I would suggest taking it in to the dealer and have the check it out. I must say that Chrysler has been great through out the whole process, my dealer on the other hand is another story but Chrysler has just been terriffic in helping out.

  12. Take a look through the forums here and you will see that it is the front cowl there in the front windshield. There are TSB(Technical service bullitens) for this. Look for the TSB # in the forums probably posts by mjm48. Take that TSB # to your dealer and ask them to apply it. I would also look for the other TSB's here as well and go with a list to make sure everything is fixed with your vehicle. Good Luck..

  13. Before I call the dealer, anyone have this problem? I had 5 CD's loaded, long road trip, got through them and was going to change them out. CD 1 came out, but the rest did not, long story short, I am getting a Mech Com Error so can not eject the rest of them. The radio itself is working, just not the CD part. I tried again this morning, but still no luck.

    Thanks!

    Alyssia

I have asingle cd player and mine got stuck in there, it came out about 1/4 of the way and got sucked back in. It did this two or three times before it stopped coming out. I tried for an hour to get it out and gave up. The next day when I got in the car I hit eject and it came right out. Have not had any other problems.

  14. Confirmed. Just take the credit card ( I used my now good for nothing circuit city card ) and run along the edge, then gently, gently pull out the rubber. Use your fingers to get the rubber from under the grove of the illuminated light. It is dishwasher safe  . then just put it back in and run your finger around the grove and your done...oh don't forget to clean the bottom plastic that the rubber fits into.

Now only if I can find a better finish cleanor than Armor All that don't attract dust.

Excellent. thanks for the info. I am not a big fan of Armor All either, so I use spray cleaner made by honda. They sell it in motorcycle shops to clean and shine your bike. ONe day after cleaning my bike i tried it on the dash and it worked well, even cleans the windows, so I use that and find that it works well and the shine lasts a while. It is called Honda spray cleaner and polish.

  15. linaso is right. If you purchased the songs from iTunes, the are probably copy protected and won't play if you copy the files to the hard drive. If you put MP3 files on your iPod, then you can copy them from the iPod to the Hard Drive through the USB port on the radio.

Zune... no way. The Zune does not support the USB Mass Storage class, so the front USB on the radio won't recognize it.

What about a sansa view? I tried hooking it up and the car did not see it. I could not transfer or play anything from my ipod. I wound up just taking my lap top out to the car and downloading my library that way. However I just bought a new cd for my wife and out it in the ol journey and hit copy and it burned it to the hard drive and I was able to listen to it but the only thing that did not transfer was the name of the cd or any ov the song titles, they are all just number strings.

  16. I live near Toronto Ontario. Figured it out, I used a credit card to pry the top of the insert out just below the light strip, then just work your way around the perimiter until you can pull it out.

Great I have to try this over the weekend. Do they go back in no problem? I mean when you put them back in do they fit exactly how it was before you took them out?

  17. I still have the Khumo's on mine. They seem to do fine in the snow for me. But then again the snow has not stayed on the ground for long and I have AWD. Plus I have never had snow tires. Hopefully some one else can chime in with more expierence.

I have an R/T AWD which I think came with the Khumo's as well and I think they are great in the snow. Had a storm 3 weeks were we got 11 inches and I was driving all over in, great traction, I had no problems getting around, the car did slide a little bit put the ESP kicked right in and it was smooth sailing.

  18. I tried to get mine out that way this morning, it didn't work :censored: must be too cold. Sorry, I'll have another go at getting mine out again tonight and let ya know.

What a hard time I had trying to push all three in at once, but I had no luck either. I live in NY, do you? If you figure it out let me know. Thanks.

  19. I pulled them out last summer after a spill. I think I did it by pressing on the bulged part which caused the top to pop out from under the light ring. The one in the rear armrest comes out easier than the front one, try it there first. If I remember right the rear one has a rubber peg on the bottom to lock the liner in to a hole in the armrest. Good luck.

Hey thank you so much. I thought it might have something to do with those bulges. I pressed two of them in at once but not all three. I figured that the bulges had bothing to do with it so I stopped. I am going to try it tonight.

  20. Just recently my wife noticed a ticking noise from her Journey RT. I had a listen, and it sounded like either a lifter, or possibly an exhaust leak (they sound similar). Since we were planning to take our Journey RT in for service because of the left turn grinding noise, we decided it was time.

They first tried replacing some rocker arms (not sure why...) but that didn't fix it. They said they eventually talked with a Chrysler tech who suggested it might be the intake... So they put a new intake on it and the noise is gone...? I'm a car guy. My hobby is working on old cars, but I don't much work on the new ones. Does anyone know what might cause a ticking noise in the intake?

And by the way, they fixed the left turn noise under the TSB I got from this forum. Thanks for that!

    Rick

I have recently noticed the ticking noisse my self and took it into the dealer where they changed the lifters and exhaust lifters, car was in teh shop for 3 days for this repair. Got it back and it still ticked, Chrysler decided to change the engine ( i only have 9000 miles on it). It was in the shop 9 days for this. I got it back and it ticks worse then before. I am bringing it in again so they can try something else I will bring up the intake and see if this can be done. Thanks.

  21. I just got my car back from the shop and when they were test driving it the service tech must have brought his coffee with him and it spilled all over the cup holder, the problem is you cannot get the ruber out to clean it and if you look close enough the bottom of the rubber has slits in it so the coffee went under the cup holders as well. Has anyone figured out how to take these out and clean them?
