  1. Just a few days after purchasing my Journey in June I noted a howling noise coming from either the engine or transmission as the vehicle was climbing even the slightest grade. I brought it to the dealer. They heard the same, but didn't know whether this might be normal or an issue. They said they'd check with Chrysler and test some other Journeys on the lot to see if they experienced the same with those. No word on what they heard from Chrysler (I suspect they never checked). They claimed to have experienced the same with two other Journeys on their lot. Today (totally fed up with the noise) I brought it back into the dealership (the noise--which sounds like blowing air slowly over the mouth of a glass soda bottle--has gotten progressively worse). I test drove a demo with 5,500 miles on it and a brand new vehicle (both 3.5L V6s, like mine) and did NOT hear the noise with either. I forced the tech to ride with me in the newer vehicle to witness that the same problem does NOT exist with that vehicle. He admitted it wasn't an issue. He also admitted he doesn't have a clue what's wrong with my vehicle.

Bottom line--has anyone experienced the same? If so, have you somehow resolved this issue? BTW: I've also experienced the rear wheel well squeak and the rubbing noise in the left front wheel well other have experienced.

I had the same issue! I have an '09 RT and they ended up replacing the muffler and the sound went away. Now my dash is rattling when I'm on the interstate. I have an appt with a Chrysler rep today hopefully they will fix it. It's been on thing after another with this vehicle. I will never buy a Dodge again!

  2. I have the Howling noise. SXT.

If I set the cruise and the engine is at 2000 RPM it happens. Mainly heard as it starts to accelerate up a hill.

VERY depressing if this is considered "Normal"

Yes it only happens when going up a hill or even a small hill! Sooooooooo frustrating for a BRAND NEW vehicle to sound this way!!

Ok by no means am I glad you have experienced the same problem but that is the exact same thing my 09 Journey is doing and I am glad that I am not the only one out here! I explain it to people the same way like blowing in a glass bottle! It has been to the dealership four times now, they had their DM come last month to decide what to do with it. I haven't heard from her and that has been since Jan 12. I filed lemon law paper work and my husband is taking it to the dealership on 2/22 one last time to see if they can repair it. What ever happened with yours? They act clueless at this place! Do you live in Central FL by chance?

  4. Trust the response from mjm48. That exact procedure was performed on my black SXT and it worked! It was exactly as he said. Take that response to your dealership, and if they don't want to work with you, find one who will!

Thank you so much, I will print that out and take it to another dealership!

  5. For the dashboard rattle, I had something similar. I was thinking it was from the dashboard, but it was not. Actually, the rattle was coming from outside the car, from the rubber that makes contact between the windshield and the plastic where are the wipers. The rubber was not in contact everywhere and at highway speed, air was going there, making the rubber vibrating and sounding like a rattle from the dashboard.

For the other noise, is it really like a power steering noise or is it more metallic?

I will let the dealership know about the rattle. As far as the honk or vibration noise, it sounds more metallic like it's grinding or vibrating against something. This is very frustrating! I will never buy another Dodge again!

  6. I've had my 2009 Dodge RS since October....I am having the same issues that most of you are having. I've taken it to the dealership 4 times, the last time a Chrysler rep flew to Florida to listen for the noise. That was Jan 11,2010 and I haven't heard from her yet. NO call, no return phone calls....same noise! So far they have replaced the power steering pump and the reservoir.

I was told that there is nothing more they can do. This is not acceptable to have a loud noise on a brand new vehicle. The mechanic rode with me after my 2nd trip to the dealership and he heard the noise.

I hear the noise when I go up hill, turn right or left, or right when I am accelarating from a complete stop position. I also have a rattle in my dash when I am driving around 60 mph or so. The dealership joked and said that is why I have a radio to turn up! I didnt' find that funny after 4 visits. What have you all decided to do about this?
