2017 Journey with transmission shudder.

Recommended Posts

I have seen a few threads with the transmission shudder when coming to a stop. Not horribly bad, but can certainly feel it. It feels that the vehicle almost stopped while in second gear and then all of a sudden needs to shift down one more time to 1st gear. 2017 Crossroads AWD 12k miles on it. I was under impression that those issues were fixed in prior years. SW updates and such.

I will monitor if it keeps happening and contact the dealer. It's wife's car and I didn't know, that was going on. Any advice is welcome.

Hi N87,

We recognize that you are just reaching out to other forum members at this time for their feedback on your concerns. If you do end up visiting the dealer, we would be more than happy to offer our assistance. Just send us a quick private message with your VIN and servicing dealer, and we can look into things further for you.

Just and update to this post. I ended up taking DJ to local dealer. They checked the transmission, fluid etc. No issues were found, so they reset Transmission Control Module(TCM). After two months or so (about 600miles), it seems to be driving better and the downshift bump is not as pronounced. However it's still there, if you pay attention to it. Only happens when coming to a stop. I guess that's how Ultradrive 62TE transmissions are.

Thanks for the update. It seems like one of those things that we just get used to on our cars, but that would seem to be bothersome and an issue that could lead to something bigger. I would take it to a specialty transmission shop and see if they notice it and have any suggestions.

I am not sure if another transmission shop would have better understanding of Dodge transmission. I might try calling around, though.

There's very informative article on 6 speed DJ transmissionhttp://etereman.com/blog/fiat-transmission/its-electric-well-electrical-common-problems-with-the-chrysler-62te

Also, there is a petition to recall or fix the unit. https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mopar-62te-transmission-needs-to-be-retuned-or

Doesn't seem like it's getting anywhere yet. But whoever has issues listed there, should definitely sign it.

I thought it might be a Dodge thing. I have a 2016 R/T with the 3.6 and I noticed as I came to a stop it felt like the suspension on a dirt bike loading up. The thought of a tranny issue did cross my mind as well as motor mount etc. Seeing as Dodge does not see fit for us to check our own tranny fluid level I have not pursued it. If it is an ongoing issue and has been identified in prior years I will definitely sign a petition, as I know Dodge will do whatever they can to avoid it.

I have a 2016 front wheel drive. I can not say that a shudder is a common problem. The transmission is a little quirky compared to older cars but it does not give a "concerning" shudder. Only occasionally, if taking off too quick from an incomplete stop, do I get a bit of a "thump" while it finds a gear. Otherwise, it runs just fine.

Maybe the AWD has an effect on the feel?

Guess I should have clarified that better. A transmission shudder is not a common complaint on my own personal vehicle. Yes, there are numerous threads from others that do have that problem.
