NavalLacrosse got a reaction from Mcgusto82 in Grand Caravan vs Journey towning
There are many reasons, Sadly the main issues are likely due to the increased cost to make the Journey Compliant with the DOT towing requirements which changed in 2010 to better reflect real driving.

The 2008-2010 Journey had 3500lb towing.
The 2011-2021 has 2500lbs towing, despite being the exact same Car/Architecture*/frame.

Pre 2010: DOT tow rating measurements were very sketchy. Manufactures would take their least equipped, but highest tow rated trim, put a 80lb test driver, new pads, brakes, no luggage, minimal fuel, and would conduct their towing tests to get the ratings. This is why before 2010, every car/sedan/prius/honda fit has a rated tow weight.
POST 2010: DOT requires real world testing: Now all ratings are done with 2 humans (200lbs each) and 100 lbs of luggage in the trunk, full tank of fuel. The criteria for handling and stopping distance changed too. For whatever reason, the Grand Caravan survived these new tests, and retained it's rating.

The summary is that the Dodge Journey failed to meet the requirements, and the cost to make the dodge compliant isn't worth it to FCA. Instead; Just reduce the rated towing in the manual and call it a day. Saves money and headache.

    The reality is:
You /CAN/ tow much more with the Journey. People do it all the time and say it's fine. Just get a torsion hitch, brake controller, and don't drive like an idiot.

weird for it to happen at 100kpm, 60mph+ but not at low speed with similar REVs

I'd assume the belt, or pulley is going bad. coolant on the belt can cause a squeal.

Harold, Please record a video of the dashboard, allowing us to hear the noise and see the Tachometer.
Also, see if the noise happens when you 'Rev' while in park.

YUP, as I posted that an option or higher trim level. The CREW is derinitely a top end trim .  I never said it DID NOT exist, Just that the SXT did not come thru with the feature.

I had my rear calipers seize because I didn't grease the slide-bolts. (The ones covered by the small rubber boot).
I assumed the grease from the previous install was adequate. I was super wrong. when I replaced the part I put adequate amounts of Lithium grease on every part. No issues all the way to the end.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!  We've had it a week now and are missing the Enclave less and less every day.  It's definitely more fun to drive than the old Buick, and we all fit in it, so it's really everything we could hope for.  I've already got the SRT page in the radio with some help from @Miguel Pereira and looking into other useful things the AlfaOBD app can do.  I love having the 6 gauges on the radio.

After an exhaustive search, I finally purchased my Dodge Journey replacement Vehicle.

2019 CPO'd Buick Envision Essence, FWD, 2.5L n/a. Red ext. w/ beige leather int.; 49k Miles. $26,700 OTD

One of the main requirements for my wife was that the Dodge Journey's replacement needed to have comfortable seats comparable or better than the DJ. This buick does the trick.

This comes just in time; My second car (Chevy Volt) is leaking coolant from it's Inverter/Charger coolant loop (one of 4 independent coolant loops) and needs it's radiator swapped. It's an involved swap, but at least it's the easiest of the 4 radiators to swap.

The Dodge Journey is a good car that gets a lot of flak.

    Pros:
    Cheap,
    old-ish school tech and maintnence,
    quiet,
    great seats,
    and wonderfull highway cruiser.
3.6v6 brings 280hp to the playing field (really good number in this day and age of turbo 4-bangers bringing in 240+). This engine is rock solid, and still used in EVERY FCA.Stellantis product (excluding a few dumb outliers)

    Cons:
the 'Internet' and 'car people' hate it, and it has a bad reputation for being old and uninspired. It's an 14 year old exterior style, and a 11 year old interior style.
the 'internet' and 'car people'  (rightfully) hate it because it is the only car still sold NEW with a 4sp auto trans (only on the 4cyl model).
Electrical gremlins are annoying, but are usually solved by changing the battery.

    Cons that are also Pros:
'Internet and car people' think it drives like a minivan. - that's the point- it's smooth, it wallows, it cruises on the highway amazing, seats 7, gets goodish fuel economy. Not everyone wants a 'tiny' import crossover that drives like a Subaru BRZ lifted.... some people want the solf wallowy minivan drive where you can comfortably cruise at 85mph with only minor corrections on the tiller to keep in the lane. Body-roll? That's part of the experience.

This is one of the reasons my wife's Journey replacement was a Buick, because Buick seems to have the closest to a relaxed, quiet ride, not-a-sportscar feel that makes the journey a comfy car to drive. { jeep? too bouncy. Hyundai? too cheap+tiny. Toyota? too stiff and tight. ]

It's got the 3.6. It was bought new at this dealership and maintained there it's whole life. 20+ years ago I was a GM tech, and I've had GM cars and trucks my whole life because I could do anything to them. Now I'm at the point where I don't want to work on my own vehicles anymore and I believe Chrysler's quality has surpassed that of GM, so I'm willing to try moving to the dark side.

so which eng? check the records on the maintenance that has been done on it? if 3.6 eng won't be long for the plugs and transmission service along with the coolant service as well and these services are not cheap, 2.4 eng plugs are very easy and cheap to change...journey probally won't ride as well but i have  had a 2011 which i traded in on with 70 k for my 2014 crossroad  122 k on it  now , both had the 3.6 eng  i really love my journey

Hello, am new to the forums and require some help.. I have a 2015 Dodge Journey SXT 3.6 engine, my heater only heat while the car is idle but when I’m driving, it blows cold air, any idea what could be causing this to happen?

And sometimes it shows this electric symbol on my dash - see picture below

    Hello:

A lot of updates! I'll keep posting as get more experience...
Unit arrived. Is a newer generation that allows wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Installation was pretty straight forward, although I had and should investigate the microphone setup. I'll explain further down. Connection to backup camera is already done through the cable - there's more options for extra cameras or after market.  All you need is to press the back button to change between Uconnect and the Interface. It DOESN"T need any mod to the screen. you just plug the screen "LVDS" to the cable supplied.

Just came in from popping out a tail light unit to find that it's not a back up light, but a 4 way flasher!. CLEAR lens but AMBER bulb and in direct alignment with the hatch mounted back up lights. Must have been the angle of view and sunlight(?) that made me think it was blown Back up bulbs. ALL is well and boy do I feel foolish!

So I was having this issue last summer. And I ended up having unrelated battery parasitic draw issues this past winter which required me to pull some fuses until I figured out the issue.

Regardless, one of the fuses I ended up pulling was for the HVAC. Front and rear. This wasn't the issue, however I noticed since pulling and reseating those fuses, my climate stopped randomly turning on. Could be a coincidence but just posting it here in case it helps.
