Trailer Wiring Hook-Up

I apologize if this topic has been covered but I cant seem to get a direct answer and it's driving me nuts. I have a 2014 Journey with the trailer prep package. Over the weekend I began to look into getting a hitch put on it. I called around and found the cost to have the hitch installed rather high considering I already had the wiring done. Additionally its only a 2 yr lease and I don't want to sink a bunch of money into something I'm going to have to remove and potentially not be able to reuse. So I went to U haul and picked up a hitch for $165 and set about lowering the exhaust and bolting on the hitch. Then I removed the bumper skin to expose the plug that the trailer wiring harness (in the trunk when I picked it up form the dealer) will be plugged in to. Everything hooked up fine however I am not getting power to the 4 pin connector. I have power to the plug that has been factory installed in the main body harness, but once I add the additional "trailer prep" harness I don't have power to the final 4 pin.

I have read in other places in the forum that you have to have the ECU flashed by the dealer. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, will they do this without having done the install on the hitch. I'm a little leery about taking it to the dealer because its a lease and of course they frown up modify lease vehicles, but at the same time why would they offer me a trailer prep package if they didn't think I was going to tow a trailer. Or is it possible that I have a faulty wiring harness?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
