Mopar/Kicker speaker upgraded has been completed in the rear doors so far. (front system has been ordered)

Just so everone knows, yes Kicker makes a upgrade for the Journey AVP,SE,SXT with stock 6 speakers, but for some reason(Alpine????) they dont seem to advertise it or want anyone to know. If you write to Kicker like I did, they will also give you the same Mopar part number.

77KICK41 is the part number for the rear doors...they are 6x9's....same kit used in most all Chrysler cars...as a matter of fact, when we took off the stock base speaker, it has the same part number stamped on it that were in my 2011 Ram 1500 when i replaced them with this same kit!

After much fussing with the door, we got it off...hint, the door handle trim plate pops off and there are two screws there to remove, then the door comes...need to lift it up to get off..not as easy as it may seem...slow n steady best approach.

I HIGHLY recommed spending the $10 for the door removal tool, it is plastic and works perfectly and you do not damage anything....ie: paint..

As you can see by the pictures it is a direct fit...and the sound is so much better. I have used the Mopar/Kicker upgrade kits in my 2007 300SRT8,2008 Sebring Conv't and 2011 Ram 1500 reg cab. So being famalier with them, i personally like them. The nice thing is that the Dodge wire connector is already attached and you just plug it in...

Will give some pictures and update when the front kit comes in..

I ordered the Dodge part #77KICK41 kit from my local Dodge dealer(the dealer may ask you for your VIN # and then tell you it does not fit your car, but it does) or EBAY.

Most Dodge dealers do not have it in stock and have to order it in.

You can also goto www.kicker.com and goto the contacts and ask them for the kit numbers for the "upgraded" system. Also on Kicker's website there is a Mopar tab and there is a chart with ALL the part numbers listed for all the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram vehicles.

This is the guy who helped me at kicker, the part numbers may or may not be the same for the Alpine system replacements.

Which KICKER speaker set did you order for the front doors/dash? I have a 2015 Journey SXT with the standard system that I'd like to upgrade.

Check the post date. Not sure he's on here anymore. Check out crutchfield.com. They can help you decide based on your application and tastes.

I did the Kicker upgrade on three of my previous vehicles. Just swapping out to these speakers improves the sound quality 100%. They were always listed in the Accessory Brochure for each model, but I have never seen anything listed for the DJ. They must have stopped making them, or the business between Kicker and FCA must be over. This is why I swapped all of my speakers for Alpine, because they put out the most bass. These Alpines are NOT the crap paper speakers that Dodge passes off as Alpine. I purchased them at Best Buy.

Thanks for the info. I already checked with Crutchfield and they don't carry 6x9s that fit in the doors-they say that the DJ doesn't have enough mounting depth for many aftermarket 6x9s and all I can do is swap out the 6x9s for the smaller round 5 1/4 - 6 1/2 speakers which are for shallow-mounting situations. And with those-I know that I'd lose some bass and then I'd still have to deal with the static or scratchy sound from the dash speakers whenever I play newer recorded CDs and re-mastered CDs. I'm interested in the 77KICK11ab if anyone knows the depth requirements of that set or I may go with the 77KICK28 if the 3.5s from the KICK11 set needs more depth spacing than the stock dash speakers I have now. Any help and info is greatly appreciated.

The Alpines that I purchased at Best Buy were 4 6x9s - one for each door. No mounting issues at all. This is the first time that I have heard of Crutchfield giving out bad info. I put a set of Alpine tweeters, with built in x-overs, in the dash.

I have a long thread on what I did for my sound system.

I was surprised that Crutchfield was wrong as well. I did my own measuring and found that this Sosche guide is the closest, although a bit off. The mounting depth for the dash speakers is basically anything as they're just deep holes underneath. The height isn't a concern either as my 2 way dash's fit fine and 3 way 6x9's also do. How did you get lucky enough to get a different 6x9 to fit in the doors? I checked one of the back doors, I measured the space between the mounting surface and the plastic piece behind where the magnet is and there's only 2 3/4" of space and many replacement speakers are at-least 3" or more. Did you have to cut that piece of the door behind the magnet or did you find some shallow-mount 6x9s? I guess that explains why Crutchfield says 6x9s don't fit. Even those Kickers I mentioned are 3" deep for the front doors and 3 1/4" for the rear doors. I'm really hating this car more and more-the lacking of certain basic features and especially with the lack of support of accessories and upgrades.

The cartons for the Alpine 6x9s that I purchased at Best Buy did not mention anything about shallow mount. I had Best Buy install them and the tech had all 4 done in less than a hour. There is a couch where I could sit in the garage bay as he did the installation. No cutting of anything to have them fit. It is possible that he used a spacer to push the speakers out from the doors, but he never mentioned anything like that, and said it was "a piece of cake" doing the installation. My Invoice says standard speaker install, and the only parts listed are wire harnesses.

I bought Infinity Primus 6x9's for my rears and reused my trusty Kenwood eXcelon 5 1/4" for the fronts. Mounting depth wasn't an issue. The Scosche guide specs say 3.096". That's about right. It's plastic. It will give a tad as long as you don't go too deep. Helps if you use mounting foam as well. That'll pull it up at least another 1/4"

Hi guys, I just finished installing my new speakers today! I installed the Mopar/Kicker 77KICK28ab (component) in the front doors and dash and the 77KICK41 (coaxial) in the rear doors without any mods at all. The depth of the speakers weren't as deep as the info in all my research and they all fit like they were made for my car and they have the same OEM connector as the original featherweight speakers. The sound difference is definitely huge and I'm hearing more details in my music again. I haven't cranked the volume yet since I heard new speakers should be given a couple days of lower volume for breaking them in. I don't know if that's true or not but I figured it couldn't hurt to go easy on them in the beginning anyway and I don't want to chance damaging them.

Hi RCman, I have a 2014 DJ R/T with the Alpine system. Do you have the pictures of the original Alpine speakers vs the Mopar/Kicker version? How hard was it to swap the in dash speaker? And how about the Sub, what did you change them into?

Original Alpine speakers are crap paper. The Kickers are a silver polymer. They sound 100% better. The BA System in my Commander used crap paper speakers too. Money well spent! I wish that I had known that these would have been still available. I never would have bought the Alpine speakers that I did. Although, they do sound good, IMHO.

Would love to know the difference in sound with this upgrade. Seriously considering it for myself. Did you get better low frequency response? More bass? Is there an upgrade for the subwoofer available as well? I can't seem to find too much information.

Ok so the ALpine speakers in my car were not paper crappy speakers. They were actually pretty decent woofers with rubber surrounds and decent magnets. I almost feel like the kicker upgrade took me backwards with how bright the tweeters are. I feel like I'm going to end up replacing the amp and requiring the car. As much as I do not want to do that I really would like this to sound at least as good as my Chrysler 200's Boston system...

Hi guys, I'm sorry I haven't been here for a while. My install went fairly smooth-including the dash, you have to remove tha pillar trim on both sides first before removing the dash panel. The whole install is definitely easier if you have a decent set of trim panel removal tools, I found them on Amazon as well as the coaxial speaker set, I bought the other speaker set (the component set) on eBay. I definitely noticed better lows and the highs are like night and day between the original and the new tweeters. My car doesn't have a subwoofer so I unfortunately don't have any info on that. I also found out during my speaker research that the Alpine system has 2 Ohm speakers and these speakers are 4 Ohm so you may not get a very desirable sound from these unless you change your amp. My car only has the base (small screen and no amp) system which has stock 4 Ohm speakers so I'm getting better sound from these Kickers. But I'm still getting a little static in the vocal parts of some songs-especially newer or remastered recordings (CD or iPod) so now I'm guessing is the stereo itself. So it seems that adding new speakers to my car helps but, with my radio-it's just like polishing a turd. I miss the days and the cars where you can also swap in a new stereo for the ultimate upgrade. I hope this helps.
