Check Engine Light

Recommended Posts

My check engine light appears only when starting the car from [off -> acc -> run] without pressing the brake pedal. But pressing the brake pedal + start button it doesn't show. Please Help.

Do you have push button start? It shouldn't start without pressing the brake pedal. It may be an issue with your transmission lock, or maybe with your ignition lock itself. For a proper diagnosis you'll want to take it to your dealer. This is something you'll want to get checked out pretty soon, if it is push button start then it could make the car vulnerable to theft.

It's also an "emissions ready" check. If you leave it in "run" without starting the engine, the light will illuminate, and then either stay solid if the vehicle is ready for an emissions test (no pending trouble codes) or flash 10 times if it's not ready (existing trouble code, or not enough data since the last time all codes were cleared/battery was disconnected).

Now, does the light turn on once the engine is running if you start from "ACC," or does it immediately turn off once the engine is running?

Also, can you get the engine to start without pressing the brake pedal? If so, that's a separate issue with your vehicle that needs to be addressed. It should only be possible to start the engine with the brake pedal depressed.
