N87 Posted November 22, 2017 Report Share Posted November 22, 2017 I have seen a few threads with the transmission shudder when coming to a stop. Not horribly bad, but can certainly feel it. It feels that the vehicle almost stopped while in second gear and then all of a sudden needs to shift down one more time to 1st gear. 2017 Crossroads AWD 12k miles on it. I was under impression that those issues were fixed in prior years. SW updates and such. I will monitor if it keeps happening and contact the dealer. N87 Posted January 21, 2018 Author Report Share Posted January 21, 2018 (edited) Just and update to this post. I ended up taking DJ to local dealer. They checked the transmission, fluid etc. No issues were found, so they reset Transmission Control Module(TCM). After two months or so (about 600miles), it seems to be driving better and the downshift bump is not as pronounced. However it's still there, if you pay attention to it. It seems like one of those things that we just get used to on our cars, but that would seem to be bothersome and an issue that could lead to something bigger. I might try calling around, though. 2016RT Posted September 13, 2018 Report Share Posted September 13, 2018 I thought it might be a Dodge thing. I have a 2016 R/T with the 3.6 and I noticed as I came to a stop it felt like the suspension on a dirt bike loading up. The thought of a tranny issue did cross my mind as well as motor mount etc. Seeing as Dodge does not see fit for us to check our own tranny fluid level I have not pursued it. If it is an ongoing issue and has been identified in prior years I will definitely sign a petition, as I know Dodge will do whatever they can to avoid it. Summer Solstice Posted September 14, 2018 Report Share Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) I have a 2016 front wheel drive. I can not say that a shudder is a common problem. The transmission is a little quirky compared to older cars but it does not give a "concerning" shudder. Only occasionally, if taking off too quick from an incomplete stop, do I get a bit of a "thump" while it finds a gear. Otherwise, it runs just fine. Maybe the AWD has an effect on the feel? Guess I should have clarified that better. A transmission shudder is not a common complaint on my own personal vehicle. JHJourney Posted October 17, 2021 Report Share Posted October 17, 2021 Hello, I have a 2018 AWD Journey with almost 31,000 miles and this is the first Journey I have ever owned. I love the vehicle as it fits me exactly for what I was looking for. I am the second owner and have owned it for almost two years. I have noticed that the first time the vehicle shifts through all the gears after taking off from a cold start (I always give the vehicle a few minutes to warm up before taking off down the road), I have noticed a “shudder” when it shifts from first into second gear, but this only happens during the first run through of the gears after starting, then I never feel or notice it again the rest of the time I drive. It shifts flawlessly after the first initial run through of the gears without another shudder the rest of the time I drive. I am still getting to know the feel of Dodge as far as what is normal operation/function for their vehicles and such. Can any of my fellow Journey owners tell me if this is a normal functioning of the AWD transmissions in the Journey? Has anyone else noticed this in theirs?
