  1. Well, I may have bit my own arse. I couldnt bring myself to fork out $500 for a rear brake job on my 2012 R/T ...esp when they were just going to put new OE parts back on ... so we did the brakes ourselves ... which we've done brakes before, just never on the DJ yet. So. We went with ATE grooved or slotted (whatever you call them) rotors and Wagner pads (this is on the rear) ......... I've read the "brake break in" procedure and have been following it as close as possible ... no aggressive driving for 500kms, no hard stops, release the brakes at red lights to prevent hot spots etc etc. Everything has been great until Monday night, on the way to work I could hear this god awful squeeling/squeak sound coming from the pass rear ..... the sound mimics what crickets sound like at night .... its constant as long as the wheel is turning .... as soon as I press the brake pedal even slightly, the sound goes away totally. If stopped and I start rolling, the squeak will go slow with the rotation of the wheel, getting louder and more constant the faster the wheel rotates. Brake pedal feels fine, steering feels fine, no shake, no grinding BUT I can smell the rear brake somewhat after I've parked, not alot, but enough to know what Im smelling when I walked behind the DJ .......... so ...... what have we done? -- oh and one more thing, I drive approx 30 mins to and from work 50/50 city and highway ...... the sound isnt there except for abit of screech when coming to a gradual stop (pulling out of the parking lot) ...... the sound is there constantly after I've been driving for 15-20 mins .... --
  2. .....well less than a year and the screeching is back ... even worse now ... lol ... louder, both front windows and they do it up and down. Called the dealer and it goes back again this week, more than likely same replacement repair again as last September.---- theyre also going to look into the drivers side front seat creaking very loudly when weight is shifted .. ie: going around corners, moving foot from gas to brake and getting in and out.

    creaking seat

I seem to have one heck of a creaky drivers seat. Even just moving my foot from the gas to the brake pedals, the shift in weight causes it to creak loudly ... when I'm turning a corner and my weight shifts the creak is insane ... to the point that a passenger in the backseat asked me once if my seat was broken? ... All the other seats seem perfectly fine and it doesnt matter whos driving, it creaks no matter what lol .... (Im also not of excessive weight either ... just wanted that to be known) I've been looking around and I see this is an isssue with Dodge Rams ... and I THINK I saw a posting about it on here awhile back and the result was needing a new seat all together. Now heres the big question, would I be pushing my luck as far as my warranty is concerned ? ....... I have a 60,000km bumper to bumper and Im currently at 59,960 .......... lol lol ......... The leather seat has no cuts, signs of wear or fading ... its in excellent shape still .... its just that CREAK !!! .... and its LOUD !
  4. well damn ....... you just made me lose the bet with my fiance .... thanks alot guys ! ... lol .... okay, I get what youre saying .... with gas prices as high as they are, I will shed a tear as I let them down to 38-40 PSI thanks for you help guys ! once again, the DJ community is quick to reply and faster to help me lose bets .... damn. lol

    PSI ?

So as many know, I have replaced my worn out tires with 235/55/19 Conti TrueContact's. Couldnt be more pleased however Im abit confused. My MPG became worse since having them put on and one of the tires has been alil off from the others PSI. So I went to put air in them the other day, read the sidewall and it said MAX PSI 51 ............. when I checked what they were, the tires were only at 34 all around (36 on the one) .... So Ive put them all at around 48 PSI and have noticed a GREAT improvement in driving, rolling resistance and fuel econ ... went from 14.5L/100km down to 10.1 and holding ........ the ride is alil firmer, but I expected that. So my question, when I was talking about this to some friends, people were divided. Some said 48 PSI is way to high and Im going to wear out the tires very quickly .... while others, including myself, felt that 34 PSI was WAY WAY to low for these tires which explained all the earlier issues (mpg, rolling resistance etc) ---- So .... what do you all think? what are yours set at? whats your opinions?
  6. i just put on 235's Continentals on my DJ and I love the extra width past the rim. No issues with rub whatsoever and I am crazy pleased with these ... hope that helps
  7. so in the end .... chop those big ugly bread boxes off the back of the Journey ... weld some pipes on .... nice tips and I'll finally have a Journey with a nice rumble to it ? ....... sounds easy enough. The K&N air filter has already given it a bit of a deeper growl when idling and such, so something more will just make it perfect.
  8. PUT THEM ON PUT THEM ON !!!!! ..... This is testing the limits of my medication being this patient !!!!! lol
  9. thats EXACTLY what is happening to mine as i type this. My rears are gone ... had it in to get the new rims put on, than they told me it will be $460 for new rear brakes as i had about a weeks worth of driving left on the pads. Explanation was exactly as described above by frogbox ..... poor design, corrosion, pads were stuck "ON" (which is why i have smelt burning rubber after driving some times ... had brought this up numerous times but was never told what it could be) Im only at 58,000kms but I think we're going to do the brakes ourselves ..... put something better than OEM on there .... even a better design might be enough ... but if the corrosion is what causes it, than i may just wear through the new brakes fast too ............... damned if you do, damned if you dont.
  10. just got the call .... my new rims are in !!!!! .... Journey goes in at 3pm for her new shiney bits !
  11. I too went the CURT route. I hated the look of the ones that the dealer installs, esp when they cut out part of the bumper lol ... so i figured if i wanted a big tough hitch, than i want to see the big tough hitch lol ..... installed in the driveway in under an hour (3rd vehicle we've put a hitch on, we're pretty good at it now lol) .... only issue Im finding just now with this hitch is the black coating is flaking off around the receiver and the chain hooks revealing some rust .... (dont mind the picture, its the only one i have of the hitch lol)
  12. Nice set up ! .... Our DJ surprised us too when we towed our new camper last summer from Ontario to Cape Cod Mass. - you can "feel" it back there alil, but not nearly as much as we thought we would. On the highway, my fiance was actually getting better MPG that I do commuting back and forth to work - lol - This year before we go, we plan on putting on a brake controller just to cover all our bases, but we wouldnt hesitate to go out again without it. Happy Travels !
  13. okay great thanks .... right now im reading out 257, 257 front and 217, 234 back ... (guess someone was done their shift lol) Thank you again FROGBOX for the original post .... saved me nearly $300 for better tires ! .... HIGH5
  14. well I had the tires put on today ... no problems at all ... $804 out the door ! ...... the CT was about 45 mins away up the 401 so I was able to give them a good road test feel on the way home and man ... so far they are great ! ... road noise is alittle higher, but its not like it sounds like a dumptruck or anything. I love the way they look, they are wider than the rim so they give it abit of an aggressive look .... nice side wall .... The steering is so responsive and I was averaging 10.0L/100K @ 120km/h with the cruise on .... for my journey that is fantastic considering on the way too Woodstock today I was at 12.2L/100K at the same speed with cruise. So all in all ... Im pretty darn impressed :D As far as the rims, they have been put on the current ones as the new ones were ordered today ... they'll just switch them over when the new rims come in to my dealer in town. --- oh, and would CT have put nitro in the tires? or air? ..... my pressures are all over the place so it'll be nice if I can just go down and adjust them myself.
  15. Getting mine put on today .... was actually a lot of work calling around S.W Ontario to find a store that had some in stock .... every store told me it would be 7-15 days before they could get some .... managed to find a set 45mins away ...... booked in for 2pm .... coupon printed, confirmed the price with the guy on the phone .. bing bang boom ! ... Im gonna be a happy guy !!! thanks to the OP Frogbox for the headsup on this deal !
