If you have a functioning 8.4" display it doesn't have to be changed to install the RB5 TGM.

Note that if you upgraded from the 4.2" display and did not have Siruius/XM radio and did not install the satellite antenna (which provides for both GPS and Sirius/XM) you will need to do so before the NAV will wor,

To confirm, the unlock code generated by the dealer's software requires the VIN (and the buyer surely knows the VIN of his own vehicle).  It is NOT based on the radio part number, but rather the serial number and the VIN of the vehicle it is being installed in.

I have heard that there is a backdoor that lets certain people get the unlock code based solely on the radio s/n, But the part number never enters into it.

Actually, to generate the unlock code you need the radio serial number and the VIN of the vehicle it is being INSTALLED in.

I have an RE2 (non-nav) and an RB5 (nav) 8.4 inch radio module (just the radio module) on my shelf - I am located in Montreal (Canada) - make me a reasonable offer for either one or both and pay the shipping.

This is the link to the instructions I mentioned in the above post last year.  The kit is specific to the 2011/12/13 models, which explicitly did NOT come with the wiring, making it ideal for those newer units that supposedly DO come with wiring that no one seems to be able to find. and noting that the kits for the later models do not come with the cabling. It should provide all the information you will ever need, with the exception of the fact that to get the old rear handle assembly and bezel off the hatch you need to undo a nut from the inside first:

Sounds like you need a battery.  They usually have a 5 year service life and, when they get weak you start having issues.

I had commented on your post on Facebook.

You got a pull from a scrap yard - and it was an ape who pulled it out.

I happened to have a nav/RB5 radio (though none of the rest) sitting on my shelf that I bought as a spare for when I had my Journey (I've moved on).  But because I had the spare my radio never gave me ay problems and it still sits there today.

In any case, you should return the garbage you got and get your money back.

Well, I traded it in since, in spite of extensive advertising no one seemed to want it.  The dealer shorted me on the trade and resold it for $15K Canadian.  The vehicle was a creampuff, in amazing condition, complete with warranty. I hope the buyer enjoys it.

I have winter tires on steel rims available as well as an RB5 navigator radio module for sale which I will be listing shortly.

Even though I no longer own a Journey I will still lurk from time to time.

After 10 years and 2 extremely reliable Journeys I've traded in the Crossroad and taken delivery of an SUV from an Asian manufacturer.

I'm not deactivating my membership, and I will continue to post answers to questions when I feel it to be appropriate, but I won't be posting any new observations or comparisons between the old and the new vehicles.

I do still have a navigation (RB5) and a regular (RE2) radio sitting on my shelf.  Make offers - I have a lot of money in the RB5, and I know I am not going to get back what I spent, but lowballs will be ignored.

My winter wheels are listed on FB Marketplace in Montreal as well as Kijiji and Varagesale.

When all this is gone there will be nothing in my garage to remind me of my time with the DJ.  But there'll be this forum for the foreseeable future.

    Happy Halloween to everyone.

Hard enough just to swap the 8.4 from a Journey to a 4.3" equipped one.

The Cherokee radio is not and never was the same as the one we have . . . so no.

The BT module is still separate from the radio (TGM).

got my 2nd covid shot (moderna) on Monday so was feeling under the weather Tuesday  sick to my stomach and headache as well, so i slept most of the day and night, and woke up early today feeling great, the shoulder is still a bit sore, the wife didnt have no ill feelings, but I  went to the store today and the airbag light was still on the horn works and cruise control as well so i got to thinking about thejeepdrivers post as well and poked around underneath the passenger side and squeezed the connectors and did the same to the drivers side as well, and then started the journey back up and the light came on then went off so guess that fixed it ill just keep an eye on it, i did have heated seats put in aftermarket so the wires are hanging down a bit, guess i need to tidy up under there so they dont get tugged on again... oh well everything ended well

had my 14 crossroad changed at 60 k cost me around $185.   just had it changed again at 104 k cost was below $300 cant remember and to lazy to go check, i just believe in changing oil in the engine as well as the trans, never had a flush or power flush why run clean oil thur a dirty filter all prices in U.S. and also i have the unlimited miles and yrs warranty as well, didnt want to give them excuse to say i didnt have it done, hence why i had it done at the dealership...actually sounds reasonable as prices have went thur the roof on everything here lately...might want to check a different dealer as they all charge different prices on labor and parts

bramfrank got a reaction from John/Horace in Bluetooth not connecting with certain phones
I certainly have and have had no issues with the various Android phones I have used in the 2 Journeys I have owned.  The BT implementation in the Journey is per the standard, which is why good phones (such as the Blackberry series, which is probably the only phone ever sold that completely and properly implemented the relevant Bluetooth protocols) don't have problems.

Toss in library-based implementations and a haughty attitude and it is no surprise that The Journey has issues with Apple phones.  But I take issue with the claim that there are problem with 'later than Android 6', since my S20, running Android11 does everything properly, as did my previous S9, S7 and S5 phones.

I realise that Apple doesn't actually properly implement the Bluetooth protocols (Apple likes to march to the beat of a different drummer in a number of diverse areas), and the blame for the lack of compatibility with the most current iOS versions is proof of that.

That 'there is no fix' is because there is no way to reflash the Bluetooth module to change the way it interacts with devices.  Complaints should properly be directed to Apple.

They delivered it with a problem - they have to fix it - warranty or not.

I hope that the warranty you purchased was from the manufacturer and NOT a third party.

You are probably able to cancel it without penalty if it isn't.  And chances are you will find the cheapest factory warranty extensions online.

If it starts when jumped the problem has nothing to do with the state of anything other than the battery and it's connections.  I would imagine that either there is a corroded connection on the cable that goes from the jumper block to the battery or that your new battery has insufficient capacity or voltage (perhaps oe cell is shorted out).

Take a voltmeter and check the battery voltage with the ignition off.  Then check the voltage with the ignition on.  Then they to start it and check the voltage while that is happening.

Next:  Jump start the vehicle and measure the voltage with the engine running.

An idle battery should show about 12.6 volts
Under accessory load it should not drop below 11 volts at an absolute minimum
It should show about 14.2 volts while charging.

If the battery voltage shows low, it could be bad, or the alternator may not be charging properly
If the charging voltage shows low then you need to look into the alternator.

Chances are there needs to be feedback from the mirror to the BCM for it to work - likely a different wiring harness and mirror assembly.

If my ride was newer I'd perhaps have invested in this - making the speedo a bit more accurate would have been nice - I assume that the LED setting either adjusts, or disables the current sensors for those bulbs and nothing more . . . .since there's no way I'd put LED conversions in the headlights and nothing else ever seems to burn out, that setting is of very limited utility to me personally.

Note to Miguel - if you use the appropriate size tires there is no adjustment required when switching from one size wheel to the other - they have the same circumference.

I can't speak to 2013, but my 2014 certainly can.  No music details displayed onscreen, mind you.

I use Android devices, however - they are mostly closer to the standard than Apple.  The only devices I've found that are completely complaint to the BT standards are older Blackberry products.  Those were the cat's meow before the two major operating systems took them out.
