  1. Hello, If anybody out there has any concerns/doubts about how their Journey would fare in an accident, I now have personal experience to let you know that this is one extremely safe car. Coming home from work on Monday, i was stopped at a traffic light. All of a sudden I hear the sound of a skidding car. The last thing I remember seeing clearly was the high beam headlights of a Chrysler 300 coming right at me. I got T-boned in the driver's door by a car going over 100 kph! The side airbags all deployed, my steering wheel got shifted to the right and my DJ got shoved about 4 feet to the right. Let's just say that the investigating officer told me that if I did not have the side airbags, I would be in RVH in Barrie, ON for a good 2 months. All I had to show was bruises on my left side of my body where the impact zone was and where the interior door panels hit me upon impact. DJ is a total write off with damages amounting to about $13 000 in total. Now to find a replacement DJ!!
  2. Very recently, all three came on again on the way home. I thought it would be the typical wheel speed sensor thing and I gave it some time to hopefully dry up and clear out. When the lights wouldn't go away, I brought it into my indy mechanic. He scanned the computer and found out that not enough power was being sent from the battery to the one sensor (driver's side rear). He followed the wire and found that the wire bundle that comes through the floor rubbed up against the actual opening and over time, broke. He repaired it but before he began, he called up the local Chrysler dealer if they ever encountered something like this and they initially said no. But when he finished the job, they called back and said that it does happen. So everyone be aware of this predicament and solution.
  3. Hi. I used synthetic oil in my 2011 Journey R/T in my last oil change. @ 72,000 kms. The next change does not happen until 80,000 km according to the sticker. My oil change message came on and i'm @ 74,500 km. Is it possible to reset/clear the message from the EVIC? How is it done?
  4. Hello all, Just a brief rant here. So I go to get a replacement air filter for my 2011 Journey R/T after my indy mechanic suggests it after an oil change. Now I live about an hour north of Toronto and I figured that since I see so many new Chrysler products on the road, finding an aftermarket air filter should be easy, right?? Well, guess what, it's not!! I went to two Walmarts and none of them stock the air filters even though the numbers are listed in the books on the shelves. I then go to Canadian Tire and I find out that they only stock it behind the counter and the bloody thing is $45.00 with tax!!! My other vehicle is a Saab convertible and I have had no problem finding parts like filters at big box stores and the prices are cheaper than the filter for this car. What is going on here?? Has anybody else encountered this situation? The parts person at CT said basically that the Journey has so many unique things that that's why I may be having difficulty finding aftermarket parts.
  5. Well, I managed to get it looked at while I was at work on the same day I dropped it off. The radio ended up being replaced under warranty. Picked it up today to free up space at the dealership for the next day's appointments. The only problem is that I now have to wait for the security code to be programmed in. The service dept. had been trying all day to get the code to unlock and mate the radio to the car but the Chrysler website that provides the security code has been down all day. So now, they will call me and when they get the code tomorrow, I will just come back and they will program the code in and hopefully that is the end of it. According to the techie, the radio itself had something go wrong internally. It was one of those radios they stuck in my '11 R/T because the parts that made up the standard 8.4 were being made in Japan during the tsunami. Keeping fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong.
  6. Hello again, And now, it doesn't even turn on period. The climate control will not come on either. I guess I will be going to hte dealership tomorrow.
  7. Hello all, Today of all days, the Uconnect 4.3 would not turn on. I tried restarting the car numerous times but nothing. All it says on the screen is loading along with the usual warning of not doing things on the radio while the car is moving. So I wonder what gives?? Does anyone know how to reset this system other than disconnecting the battery? The physical knobs don't have any effect either for both the climate control and radio. Any advice is really appreciated.
  8. So the dealer gets back to me and tells me that the wheel speed sensor gave up the ghost and there was nothing I could have done to prevent this. First, where is this thing located and second, I have a feeling that this thing could be expensive. Thank goodness for the warranty!!!
  9. Car has 54,000 kilometres and is used only in the winter. It has Blizzak winter tires on it and oil changes are done regularly at the dealership with inflation being checked each time and I check every 2 weeks. Car is mainly driven on the highway (400 series) with little city driving. Rotations not really done as not enough mileage to warrant the rotation during the winter season.
  10. Hello all, Just as I was coming home from work yesterday in my '11 Journey R/T, my Service AWD light, ABS light and traction light all came on at the same time. I attached my OBD scanner and no codes came up on my reader. What gives?? My car is still under warranty. Can I still drive my car as I can't get in to my dealership until this upcoming Tuesday? Any advice would be really, really appreciated.
  11. Hello all, I use my 2011 Journey R/T only in the winter with winter tires and wheels. Just got the car a year ago. It has been sitting in the garage for most of the summer after I changed the wheels over to the all seasons and original rims. I am now dealing with a rubbing/grinding noise on the right rear wheel only. When I changed the wheels/tires over to the summer ones, my mechanic did not notice any unusual wear on the pads and rotors. Now this noise and it looks like something is rubbing on the rotor. Is this possible after only one season to have to replace rotors and pads on a relatively new vehicle? Mileage is 37000 kms and mostly highway driven. Any help would be appreciated. Canadian Paul
  12. Sal, I looked of all places on Kijiji. I stumbled onto a seller from North Bay who traded in his 2010 Journey R/T AWD. The snow tires were cluttering up his garage along with a set of WeatherTech floor liners. For both items, I paid about $750.00. The tires were 4 months old and are a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks DM V1's. If new the tires and rims alone would cost about $1500. I went to my local Chrysler dealer in search of winter tires. They put on 16" rims with a set of Michelin xIce 2 tires. I wasn't sure if they would clear the brakes and calipers. I went to an aftermarket tire and wheel retailer. He told me that 16's would clear the calipers but to be safe use 17" instead. There is a seller right now who has a set of rims and tires for sale on Kijiji. The aftermarket retailer told me that at this moment there are only 60 tires available for 19"s in Canada!!! As well, he told me that the bolt pattern on the rim is still new so manufacturers are trying to catch up. At the moment, 2008+ Grand Caravans/Town and Country have the same size. Those rims would work on a Journey. Look up wreckers if possible along with Craigslist and Kijiji. Good luck!!!
  13. Hello all, I just received a 2011 Journey R/T AWD a few days ago. I've been researching for a while for a suitable winter vehicle for a Canadian snowbelt area. I looked at CX-7's, Edge's, MKX's, Acadia's, Enclave's, XC70's and finally XC90's. They were either too small or too big. I saw a friend's Journey and started asking questions. Next thing I knew, I was test driving a 2009 Journey SXT with AWD. I kinda liked it, especially it's right size for me. I then see an ad for 2011 R/T's in the paper at a dealership in Mississauga. It was too good to be true; went down; test drove it with a no b.s. salesman and realized this was it and I pulled the trigger. I have not regretted my decision. Even though I am missing the 8.4 " screen because of what happened in Japan, the 4.3" for me is just fine. Cannot believe the changes to the interior, suspension and especially the new 3.6 engine. Now just gotta find suitable winter tires and I am ready for whatever is coming my way starting November!!!
