Journey SXT headlight upgrade

buckshot7526

I upgraded my headlights and they look amazing. I saw so much negative reviews of these types of assemblies but I have no problem with mine. After a few adjustments I am able to see much better than the OEM assemblies. The assemblies came with generic bulbs but I upgraded to the Sylvania zxe bulbs and now I see even better.

Did you install them yourself?  Were they plug and play as advertised?  Did you have to remove the front bumper to install them?

I did install them myself and it was not too difficult, they are plug and play. I only had to remove the front grill which is easy to do.

Well, they sure look cool - where did you get them and how much ? wonder if they'll fit a 2010?

Here is the amazon link to the headlights and it does say they fit 2009-2015 journeys. The black assemblies will cost $370.00 and the chrome ones are $350.00. I would suggest getting better bulbs if you buy them because they use generic bulbs for the high/low (H7/H1). I bought the Sylvania zXe bulbs for around $70.00 for both sets from amazon. If you go to the parts store they will cost $60.00 per set and the light output is way better with the Sylvania bulbs.

I found a set on eBay and the seller seems clueless.  My DRLs are the high beams @ 80%.  They run off the CanBus, so there is no separate wire for them.  Are the DRLs still your high beams?  Also, the row of clear LEDs light up as amber turn signals.  Is this their only function?  How did you wire the white planks?  The eBay seller said that I could wire them as DRLs, but I don't think that is possible.  I thought that maybe I could wire them to the side markers so they would come on as soon as I turned on the lights.  How did you hook yours up?  Thanks.

Looking at your picture again, I see that the clear row of LEDs are also the front parking lights.  The headlights seem dim.

I don't know how the daylight running lights work for these assemblies because I don't have daylight running lights as a feature. I apologize about the picture confusion because I had my four ways on and that's what you see with the amber light bar, they only come on when the turn signal or hazards are used. The assemblies do have an amber side maker that is always on. The white halo's were plug and play and I believe the original turn signal wire is used for the halo's now. There is a separate ballast that is now used for the amber light bar.  The headlights do seem dim but they are actually pretty bright, I think they look dim because of the smoked lens. I did change the cheap bulbs that came with them H7/H1 and replaced them with the Sylvania zXe bulbs and now they are much brighter. The original bulbs had the yellow color and now the zXe's show a much brighter clearer white light. Take a look at the amazon link above and it shows great pictures of the assemblies front and back.

I guess my DRLs would still be the high beams @ 80%.  We are thinking the same way because I was going to get a set of SilverStars and replace the bulbs that come with them.  I'll look for the zXe bulbs if I decide to do this.  I put a set of these halogen projectors on my Nitro and the light cut off at the top was horrible and I could never get used to the blue halo at the top of the light cutoff.  I even had the Body Shop at my Dealer professionally aim them, and they still sucked.  They would look cool with my Crossroad black grill, but I'm torn.  Can you take a picture at night with the low beams on, aimed at your garage door or something similar?  Thanks.  Oh, where are the parking lights?  The eBay sellers have good front and back pictures also.  May I asked how much you paid?  $330 is the lowest price on eBay.  There is a used set for $300 and a set in China for almost $800!

I decided against these, based on the inferior performance I experienced with my Nitro.  Maybe using different bulbs would have helped.  I ordered a set of 9005 and 9006 Sylvania zXe bulbs.  I found them on eBay for $32 a pair.  They were over $50 per pair at O'Reilly's Auto Parts.
